Quote: Amar’e says Knicks are best team… on paper

“On paper we might be the best team in the league. We’ve got great players on this team who accomplished so much. We just couldn’t put it together.”

Frankly, I am tired of these pronouncements from the Knicks players and coaches. Basket Ball is played on the court not with our mouths. As Bill Parcells so appropriately stated "Your record is who you are". We should close our traps and perform on the goddamn field ... Geeez ...

No humility at all for such an under-performing team

Knicks didnt get much from the PG or S position for the majority of the year.  You can add SF to that list as well. if you think Melo was playing PF more often than not.

I'm surprised they won as much as they did.

One thing some forget to factor in when it comes to playing in the Tri-state area - TAXES

Makes a huge difference in net pay playing in a state without income tax and the riduclous tax for property etc in this area.

That being said, Melo might not lose as much as everyone thinks if he can swing a deal to Houston.

So we're 2 Wins away from our ESPN expected win total of 37 lol

we're such underachievers

interesting comments by stat and just proves the team is a bunch of paper tigers just like some of the fans on this blog, yes i'm talking about the positive patsy's or if you prefer whiny wilma's, you chose which you know who you are.

Here's my assessment of our Current Roster and my theory

Chandler and Felton should be the only players on the move..keep Melo if you can hope he and Stat Opt Out to take a lesser cut or Stat Opt out and Melo Opt in

i was for trading Shump but i think he finally understands that he needs to attack and stopped being timid on the offense

but if he can be included in a package to land a Star so be it

JR is now Novak on steroids and therefore should stay his injury definitely had to be an issue, his IQ still low but he is a scorer and started to find other ways to contribute

THJR is gonna be a impactful player in the league so instead of doing what we usually do and trade away prospects lets develop him

PG is what we need and a certified rebounder case closed.

we started winning because this is my theory-

Woodson sat down with Phil Jackson and Phil gave Woodson some of his plays and schemes and said make some adjustments so we can make the Playoffs this probably happened the week before the announcement.

Maybe it's me but i feel the Schemes changed in my opinion.

...I know I'm in the minority but.....whether they sign Melo or not....it will happen when it happens and I'll deal with it. JR...he is what he is...once the knee straightened out....even Phil was impressed.  Felton...we're stuck with him...maybe the personal issues...OK....fine. Stat...one more season...and being healthy...fine with that.

The guy I want off....and can get something for is .....Chandler.  Lousy defensive instincts....gives up base line, happy feet. forget getting position.....and his new volley ball tap back is lame [just get position and get the damn offensive rebound], terrible hands....bobbles then grips.....and no O, heads down to other end of the court when the Knicks are in process of shooting a 3....so only 1/3 of rebounds are offense...should have way more with these shooters........Understand he was hurt....terrible thing but....when healthy brings little.....as Marv used to say..he would have a "quiet 15 rebounds"   a quiet 12 rebounds"...... and sure had a couple big games..20+ but quiet.......all the better to drive his value up...

Funny thing...once Woody discovered Aldrich....the middle got plugged.....he was a pleasant "surprise"....for a guy who was with the team all year....in every practice. Why didn't Woody dicscover him sooner...the only other 5 on the team......Woody.....another subject.

All the bandwagon BK Nets fans should be ashamed of themselves, if you wasn't rocking with them while they was in Jersey you should get stoned and banished to Canarsie

If you look closely at the conferences a large percentage of the underperformance is at the bottom of the east

Each conference plays an imbalanced schedule with 51 games against their own conf and 31 outside...

A large reason for this is travel .. Another other is rivalries.. Knicks fans want more games against the celtics and pacers than the warriors and suns..rivalries are a huge part of the nba

Record against the west

Milwaukee 3 -28

Philly. 5 -26

Orlando. 6 - 25

Celtics. 4 - 27

If each of these tanking teams just won 4 or 5 more games against the west you'd have a very different picture..

This year was more of an aberration because 4 tanking teams were in the east...

Bottom line making major changes to the chef use and the structure of the league in terms if conferences and division and playoff seedings is a nice academic discussion but there are many many factors to consider in making such a drastic change..it's not as simple as just seeding the top 16 teams..

well well the positive patsy's have graduated to the whiny wilma's, but considering the bb acumen and lack of class what could you expect from this crowd.

Hilarious....I'm reading excuses and sympathy by Suns fans.  Knicks fans made no excuses.  Ironic.

And....of course there are people on here that speak in hypotheticals...."if the suns were in the east....blah, blah"  IT DON'T MATTER.  THEY ARE IN THE WEST.  PERIOD!!  THEY ARE GOING FISHING.....REALITY IS A MOTHER....

OFF TOPIC: How many of you guys would be willing to trade Felton & JR for Jeremy Lin this season & if so would we be in the playoffs?

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@KnicksMaybeThisYear  but remember that professional athletes have to pay state taxes in the state that they perform...

So for example Houston has 41 home games so Dwight Howard gets no state taxes for those 41 games.. and has to pay state taxes for the other 41 games (except the San Antonio and Dallas games actually)

NY taxes are like 8-10% so it's a difference though not that significant.  On a 20 million dollar salary it's like 1million  .. guys like Melo make that up in endorsements being in NY vs Orlando Florida.

they can probably deduct some housing expense if NY isnt their primary residence.. im not an accountant but there are ways to mitigate the taxes

@KnicksMaybeThisYear  Miami may be his Destination if Bron don't leave , The Whole Heat Squad is eligible to Opt out after Playoffs

oh and No Taxes there as well

@Jaime You didn't mention how horrible THJr is by this measure.  7th worst defender in the whole NBA, and not even a positive on offense.  Interesting future test case for whether someone can improve on D.

@BiggieTKB

Bulls and Charlotte were just 13-17 against the West, we were 11-19 as was Washington, and Atlanta was 10-20.

New Orleans was 19-11 against the East,  Phoenix was 20-10 and Minnesota 17-13.

@mel brown

What's cracking me up is seeing a TKBer go out of his way (multiple paragraphs!) to bash a re-building team for finishing 10+ games above .500...additionally funny since that little anti-Suns spiel was in response to no one - and I've been told that this was a KNICKS blog.  Lol!

Biggie never ceases to amaze with his spin jobs.

@BiggieTKB That's a popular perception.  However, if you look at "real plus minus", which ranks players according to their effect on the score, and is completely independent from the kind of stats you're talking about (points, rebs, 3pt%), he's still ranked 8th in the NBA.  He even has a positive effect on Minnie's defense.  Whereas Melo for example (someone I know you like), falls to #44 (mainly due to defense).

rank  name  offense  defense  total

8 Kevin Love, 3.95  1.43  5.38

44 Carmelo Anthony, 3.62  -0.45  3.17

I think Minnie just needs more experience, and should be tough next year.  A few veterans would work wonders for them IMO.

Apparently Injuries are a valid excuse for the suns missing the playoffs,

@Ray Jorge  if lin would be a back up and be gone by 2015.. id be okay with it

but not going to happen ... Lin isnt a Phil jackson type of player

@BiggieTKB  10% of your total income is a big deal - compare it to how much more Melo will make playing for the Knicks minus how much Melo might potentially save by playing in a no income tax state.

So if the Knicks can give him 20 per year and Houston can give him 17 - you factor in the 10% you save plus the property taxes - it not too different (these are not exact numbers)

Mr.Boots
Mr.Boots

@BiggieTKB Yes, people often talk about the taxes, but it is the non deductible utility costs that are the real killer. Unless you have gas, heating oil bills for a large house combined with the sky-high electric bills are the real killers.

KnicksMaybeThisYear
KnicksMaybeThisYear

@KnickelusKnickleby Yup - but I just dont see how they sign all four of them, someone has to leave.

For Houston, they have Parsons to offer up and probably clear cap easily.

KnickelusKnickleby
KnickelusKnickleby

@Jaime @KnickelusKnickleby  Exactly, Nets should've came to Brooklyn humbly and they would've got our respect but not only are they trying to be Bullies but they do things to slight us

like Proky probably got banned from MSG so he went and got a Team to spite us

they signed 2 of our Arch-Enemies in Pierce and KG and they throw little jabs at us

while New York to me is New York...no disrespect but when people come here they wanna Visit NYC not Brooklyn

BK is just an added incentive

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

I don't deny the west was better overall just that we had some awful teams at the bottom of the east that skewed the conferences.

The bottom 3 in the west --Utah won 12, lakers won 8 and sacto won 13 against the east

I'm sure they'll look It... But it is gas easy to change as discussed and it has rother amifications
