Quote: Chandler after last night’s win

“…When you gut wins out like this together as a team, they’re also good building wins. I expect us to build on this.”

I don't want to nitpick or anything, but is it me or did Chandler play waaaaay too minutes for someone who just came back from injury?

Wasn't around yesterday, so I don't know if it was already discussed.

Say what you want about Shumpert but i would rather keep him; a guy who plays hard and is a team player to a malcontent like JR who is streaky and prone to boneheaded decisions on and off the court. Only in the Knicks bizarro world is the later preferred to the former.

How about we see some tangible evidence of good play before we start making plans for the playoffs??

When Chandler and KMart are playing, our defense gets so much better.  We don't lose to Boston and Spurs by 1000 points with those guys playing major minutes...period!!

When we are force to play Amare and Barg together, our interior defense is non-existent.

A lot of the holes we are in, is because we are missing open shots.  Then, it forces some of our guys to try to win the game by themselves. Plus, we play tighter which add to the problem with our open shots.

Once we start making some of those open shots regularly...watch out for my NY Knicks!!

If you don't want to fire Woodson why not bring in a defensive coach? At this point i wouldn't be adverse to bringing in a Lawrence Frank to help out in that area. That's how bad it's gotten on the defensive end imo.

Until this team learns how to play defense they aren't going to be able to string wins together. Their inability to make stops late in games to keep or extend leads will be their downfall unless they address the problem. How many more wins could this team have had this year with a few key stops when they needed them?

I get it, but the Knicks shouldn't have to gut out wins against the Bucks missing OJ Mayo, Larry Sanders, Zaza Pachulia, and Caron Butler.

We will rise up out of these bad times.  Just like we did last year.  We were playing very bad in late Dec, Jan and early Feb last season.

However, Melo and JR carried us into the 2nd seed by playing great in late March and April.  We will be fine...watch!!

Health is our biggest concern...a healthy knicks team is a top 4 team in the east!!

@VerySilentJay.

Lmaoooo... This coach is a freaking joke. Fans justify playing Melo close to 60 mins and chandler near 40 bc they are desparate for a win. This is an extreme low for this team. We need to stop this experience right now and start all over. Start by getting rid of this useless coach and these low iq players.

Its nothing wrong with admitting the plan failed. I wont be upset if we rebuild and make smarter decisions next time.

CL4nyk
CL4nyk

@VerySilentJay He did play too many mins, but Knicks don't win the game without him late in the game.

ds2488

@VerySilentJay Not nitpicking to worry about player's health.  This coach is riding players worse than Dantoni ever did.  Melo playing a career high in minutes after all the minutes he played?

It's very dangerous to the team imo.  Would not be surprised to see a few more injuries coming up.

Just one of many reasons why this coach needs to go.

@buddhabingI agree. Shumpert is slumping bad, but he's being made into a pariah and scapegoat on this message board. I'd rather have Shumpert shooting 1-6 and grabbing boards and getting steals, than JR shooting 5-20 (mostly from 3)

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@buddhabing Understand something, it's not that anyone prefers JR to Shump or whatever, it's that we have holes on this roster that need to be filled and Shumpert is the guy that more teams ask for. Hence why he is more involved in trade discussions.

Blaze NYK

@buddhabing I'd be into that and it would also rub Brooklyn the wrong way, which is always fun.

zdiddy4nyk

@buddhabing Lawrence frank would be great on this bench as an assistant coach...Great Point!!

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@CL4nyk We're missing Felton, Prigs, Kmart, and Amare.  And its a road game.  A win on the road is ALWAYS a good thing.

zdiddy4nyk

@CL4nyk I see OKC gutting out wins against Orlando...stop!!

It is the NBA (it is Sports), Bad teams beat good teams all the time...fact!!  The best team don't always win in a blow out...fact!!

@zdiddy4nyk

The coach is the biggest problem. thjr is shooting 47% from the field, 41% from 3.....yet chuck mgeee aka Jr.smiggity is shooting 33% from the field, 34% from 3 and get to throw up any shot at any time...

then you have metta drastically outplaying shump who is 5 for his last 35 for 17 point... but gets little run.

Then you SWITCH EVERYTHING ON DEFENSE..murry cankkeep up with the PG, yet he's getting switched onto Pfs??

it goes on and on...

buddhabing

@CL4nyk @VerySilentJay How about subbing for him earlier or in the middle of the game? It's very dangerous to play guys returning from injury so many minutes. Especially guys with durability issues.

Chris
Chris

@BiggieSmalls @VerySilentJay Play Cole, cut CSmith and bring in Tyler, there are two very simple things he can do. He can give Murry more minutes, he showed he can defend, let him play more he will get better. No one has ever improved will sitting the bench. The best move Woody can make however is to quit, or if he wont then get fired. Note klast night he used up his TOs too early and didn`t have one for the last 10 seconds. He was switching Off and Def like a real coach. Wonders happen when you are out on a limb. PS He didn`t help his cause by throwing Melo under the bus

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@BiggieSmalls @VerySilentJay Go small, use Aldrich, there are alternatives.

Imo, Woodson's playing selfish and isn't looking out for his players. His first interest is his job and not his players.

It's clear he doesn't have trust in certain individuals, who could be very useful.

MWP and Aldrich can easily be a decent 4-5 combo against a lottery team for 10 minutes.

ds2488
ds2488

@BiggieSmalls @VerySilentJay Use his freaking bench.  He has Aldrich rotting away there.  If he can't trust Aldrich to play in that situation, why even keep him on the roster to waste a roster spot?

buddhabing

@thatsagoodpoint @buddhabing I know what your saying but what type of return will you get for a guy like Shumpert? I would rather get rid of a JR where it would be an addition by subtraction move than getting rid of Shumpert who at worst could be a good role playing defensive specialist in this league. Knicks need to weed out the guys who aren't playing hard or smart. JR and all his baggage would be a good start.

zdiddy4nyk
zdiddy4nyk

@BiggieSmalls@zdiddy4nyk Exactly...That is what I have been preaching!!  It is way too early to panic.

buddhabing

@Sandro Guedes @buddhabing Good point but anything would be better than this switching monstrosity of a defense they run now. That's how desperate i am for some type of change.

CL4nyk
CL4nyk

@zdiddy4nyk Oh come on. If the Knicks weren't 10 games under .500 you'd have a point. But they are, so you don't.

Of course every team gets beat, sometimes by bad teams. But this isn't a fluke, it's a trend.

zdiddy4nyk
zdiddy4nyk

@Marvel@zdiddy4nyk Do you play ball??  I am a good shooter, but sometimes my shot is just off.  Shots that I make regularly, I am missing.

When you are lacking confidence, your shot is the first thing to go in basketball.

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@buddhabing@CL4nyk@VerySilentJay He didn't play that many regulation minutes.  It would have been under 30 minutes if the game ended after the 4th quarter.  It was the double OT that racked up his minutes (and Melo's).

CL4nyk
CL4nyk

@buddhabing@CL4nyk@VerySilentJayI agree. Truth is Aldrich should have been getting some minutes when Chandler was out and they were getting killed on the boards or opposing guards were carving up the paint.

But truth be told, Knicks needed Chandler bad in the 4th and overtimes. It was shoulda/woulda/coulda with subbing by that point. Not to mention, Woody is looking to salvage his job.

buddhabing
buddhabing

@thatsagoodpoint @buddhabing I understand but it's all about the culture this team should be trying to build. That of playing hard and being selfless. Again i'd rather get back a lesser player for JR than you would get for Shumpert if said player was a hard worker who would adhere to a team concept.

@BiggieSmalls@thatsagoodpoint Yeah, thank Grunwald  for not obtaining a second scorer.During the offseason he could have offered Shump and Chandler for Aldridge and signed a serviceable center.Yes you are making excuses for Woodson and GG.

@BiggieSmalls@thatsagoodpoint@zdiddy4nyk Washington, Boston, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland.. Tell yourself whatever you need to to make yourself feel better but the reality is that we are not a very good team. Call me a hater all you want it just doesn't change reality.

Blaze NYK
Blaze NYK

@CL4nyk But we got the W.  If we string together a few more wins no one will look back and say "that was a bad win."  They'll look back and say "that gritty double OT win on the road when we were missing a lot of players turned things around for us."

CL4nyk
CL4nyk

@zdiddy4nykAnd teams like the Celtics and Lakers haven't dealt with injuries?

Injuries are a part of the game. Despite them, Knicks should have enough talent to be hovering around .500, especially with a fairly easy schedule.

zdiddy4nyk
zdiddy4nyk

@CL4nyk Injures has played a huge part in our bad record this year.

Very similar to what happen in the middle of our 54 win season, last year.  We were very bad last season when Sheed and Felton got injured, Amare and Shump returning from injures.

It is a long season...it is way too early to bury us!!

He does need to get off twitter but I'll tell you this: Brandon knight prob scores 50 if Shump isn't on him in the second half. He prob had two points on him.

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@zdiddy4nyk@thatsagoodpoint You need to be mentally tough to be a good player unless your talent is sublime. And the way a player handles himself in trade rumors is a good barometer to gauge his mental toughness. And the fact that Shump is struggling this badly tells you he's lacking in that department. His bark is worse than his bite.

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@zdiddy4nyk@thatsagoodpoint Bottom line is if it's bothering him that badly then he shouldn't play. Honestly the only good thing he does anymore is talk a good game. His myth outweighs his performance and I won't stop that until either he's traded or people stop acting like he's anything other than a bench guy.
