MIKE D'ANTONI ON PHIL JACKSON HIRE:

"It's a big job anywhere," D'Antoni said. "I don't think just New York. I think it's a big job anywhere to turn it around. I think you have to look at the cap room and what they have and how quick you can do it? Can you get lucky? So there's a lot of things. I know that there will be a lot of effort put into it. Good, sound decisions. And you hope -- well, I'm not a Knick now so I don't hope -- it works out for him. But it's a tall order for anybody at anywhere at anytime. This league is not easy to get on top. And we know in New York, you're either winning or you're a failure. So, it will be tough but they got a good man and he'll do a heck of a job."

D'Antoni does not believe that Jackson's coaching resume will automatically translate to front office success.

"I don't think one correlates to the other," D'Antoni said. "I think they're two completely separate jobs. It's like turning a great player into a coach. It's a different job. So you don't know if they can do it or not. I think that obviously he's got a good basketball mind, so he'll approach it a different way and let's see if it works out. I think there's a lot of great qualities there, so there's no reason it doesn't. But there's no reason it does. So we'll see what happens."

When asked about his relationship with Jackson, D'Antoni said there was "none."

"You follow a great coach like he was and what he meant to the franchise, that's there," D'Antoni said, who has heard his share of "We want Phil!" chants at Lakers games since being hired. "So you accept it and you go on. You do your job. So he's never affected my job day to day. So it really doesn't affect what I do or try to do."

WHO CARES!

Why don't you all go lynch him already.

DOLAN did the right thing here and deserves praise. No wonder the knicks always lose with such unsportsmanlike fans

Besides Pau this off season take an educated guess are some players around the NBA benches you think Phil would target? During his press conference he mentioned that's a route he would be willing to take to put a competitive team on the floor next season with limited cap space. What's our starting 5: Pau, Melo, ........

Why do so many people think we can get Pau for the midlevel?  Some people have even suggested the mini-midlevel, jeez.

I'd love that, but IMO he can still command around $10M per, so it seems kind of wishful.

Woodson is gone. When the new President starts speaking about the need for fundamentals, the coach is gone. And as far as Phil micro managing a coach, think about Pat with the Heat for a nano second. Pat meets with Mark every day, you think he does not have input? Running a high P and R as your primary offense is little league basketball. The triangle offense has options and movement off the ball, it will make this team much harder to defend. It will also require a new coach with a basketball brain, not DAW. Phil also said the correct thing when he mentioned studying the other teams benches, and he can start with ours. Murry and Cole are talented enough to play in this league, and hopefully will next season. Jr will most likely be elsewhere as will Ray. Melo will move without the ball and not have to iso as much. You will see Pau, he loves Phil, and can pass and defend if he is motivated

Who would have thought that out of the Knicks, Jets, and Mets, that the KNICKS would have the best front office. I'm both excited and mildly depressed.  Yay NY sports.

Kerr = Hornacek ... Great choice

I can see Kerr coaching. He has little edge to him like Brooks out in OKC.

I would love to know who these "5-10 coaches" are that really "impress" Phil Jackson...I guess we'll find out this summer?

Right now winning games is the knicks only ally. Nobody is trying to help us. No matter how bad we want the hawks or any other team ahead of us to lose right now. We need to play every game like its or last. The Pacers are up next. Lets go get it.

KnickelusKnickleby

it is still possible for the bobcats/nets/ or washington to lose 10 in a row lol and even the Hawks can get crappy again

we're counted out but things have a strange way of playing out

That's insane that Dolan has consulted Jackson during the trade deadline about potential moves.  Glad nothing happened and he can shape the roster the way he wants.

"Jackson has won a record 11 NBA titles as a coach and two as a Knicks forward. His 229 postseason wins and 13 NBA Finals appearances are more than the Knicks have in their 68-season history (186 wins, eight Finals berths), according to ESPN Stats & Information."

That's a hell of a stat.

Paul Gasol is making a case to join the Knicks.  It's going to happen.

Frank Isola is still trolling, he's still mad he wasn't allowed to ask a question at the press conference...

@akamarb I've heard they have the tiebreaker, but I don't know why since we're 2-2.

@carl hill Yeah, he's going to give up a great life in CA, already having all the money he needs, for a job he doesn't want.  The guy is known as an egomaniac, but was overcome with "guilt" which forced him to take the job.

Such nonsense.

Yeah...He just said he's going to address the team tonight before the game! Let's see how they come out.

@johneco The Power of Phil is the reason! After having Phil direct you to Championships then enduring Mike Brown/Dumbtoni  losing ways you start to realize having money & misery is not such a good thing!

Kenny Kaufman

Not that easy to get rid of those guys! That's how our trouble started! We started giving teams draft picks to take back bad contracts!

Lol the best of that bunch is still not saying much...but Phil Jackson leading the way is certainly reason to be hopeful.

@chudogz

If Kerr has the self-awareness to recognize his own limitations as a 1st-time coach, and hire top-notch assistants to fill his gaps in experience (like maybe Cleamons?) ... that might work out...we'll see

@denelor Awesome.

“Getting somebody like Phil Jackson to come in and build the team is sort of like getting Einstein to help you with your math homework,” Mr. Dolan said.

@denelor  This is an amazing story.  They made the meetings fun and started building a nice relationship.  Cool stuff

@newyorker9  It's hysterical that a guy like Broussard was allowed to ask multiple questions at the press conference, and Frank as a Knicks beat writer can't even get a question in.

johneco

@Ray Jorge @johneco

I don't buy it.  There are teams that will pay him much more.  And there are teams where he would be way closer to winning it all if he took a pay cut (e.g. thunder).

Phil adds respectability, but he's not a miracle worker.
