best game I've seen them play since the all-star break. solid group effort, the only play that made me nervous was general Lee's short pass in the neutral zone that led to an ovi chance. it looked like he got the message on the bench - gotta give it up to strait for a great game. everyone for that matter. excellent job. keep an even keel and stick to the simple game like johnnny boychuck says. my guess is the caps will try to get under their skin, don't let them. wear them down with solid play and no stupid penalties like pk subban did last night.

@jrjr The Caps will resort to anything to get the Isles to take penalties.  If the refs call penalties when the Caps slash or hit after the whistle, this will backfire.  If the refs let everything go, it will be up to the Isles to not whine and play through it.  The Caps know that the key to winning the series for them, is to have pp opportunities.  This series is going to get progressively nasty.

@jrjr  Anyone think Subban gets suspended for that?  He's a Canadien so I suspect not.  Looked pretty vicious though.

i don't think so.  i thought it was excessive to give him a misconduct to be honest, should have been 2 min.  it was obviously a penalty, but i think the misconduct was more than enough for this time of year. that sort of play is not uncommon in front of the net.

@slapshot18_rs  When I saw it the first time, it looked like a deliberate attempt to injure.  When I watched it again, it looked less severe somehow.  Still, it is an intimidating thing to know that if you skate in front of the net, a guy like that is going to try to hurt you.  I don't like to see that.

@since72 i hear ya - i think that if PK connected with his glove, rather than his wrist, it wouldn't have been as big a deal. i mean defenseman constantly stick check the hands of the guys in front to make sure they know they're there and to keep positioning on them etc...but that was a bit too much swinging of the stick so a penalty should have definitely been called...i just dont see a suspension or even a fine coming.

@since72 @jrjr prob not. the league get better ratings with him on the ice.

@since72 @jrjr agreed. no whining and grind through it. don't give them anything to build off of. the strong survive in this tournament. loved stromes cool "is that all you got?"

Always keep in mind that the playoffs are a whole different ball of

wax. Regular season means squat now. Home ice advantage is ours

now! GO ISLES!!

Isles played one of their most complete games of the entire season. Question is, can Washington raise their game or not? On the final day of the season I thought the Isles played much harder against Columbus than Wash did against the Rags. Perhaps the Caps are not as hungry as the Isles are. Let's see what happens Friday. I really like our chances against this team right now.

All Knicks comments aside, Nice game by the Islanders who played excellently in all phases of the game, probably their most complete victory of the season but its not going to get any easier.  That was far from Washington's best game, you could even call that performance Washington's worst game of the season. Lets not forget that we beat the Sens once just like this in a game 1 and then got swept.  we can't take our foot off of the gas.  Forecheck has to remain strong and we have to hit everything that moves and block every shot we can.  Keep up the good work fellas.

@bosstrots1 that's how we were winning in the first half.  rolling four lines out there with pretty much equal confidence in their ability to get the job done - causing turnovers and creating chances. it's basically like nolan richardson's 40 (60) minutes of hell - on ice.

seems we are finally rolling! I missed a few days on the blog. Can somebody tell me if there are any JR trade rumors? Seems he gets the typical pre-trade-benching treatment right now.

Man, was that game a pleasure to watch last night. Like so many other games, I was worried we would fade in the 4th but we didn't! Nice win - Shumpert, Stat, Bargnani, Melo, Martin - everyone contributed. Keep it going, Knicks!
