they still need to figure out how to get out of their own end without the game turning into a shooting gallery on the islander goal.  a little fortunate to get the win in anaheim, but it'll all even out in the end.

Relieved more than happy. Isles can't come home worse than 7-7-0-14Pts. That will give them 6 games to get to 20 pts in the first 20 games which is all I wanted for me to feel they will battle for a play-off spot & probably get one. To me this is the hardest part of the season for the Isles. Not just the road trip but the first 20 games. After that there are 62 to go and for the most part the schedule is much easier.

Though they won, last night's line up was just dumb. They  had to struggle to beat a team without its two top players and a 3rd string goalie using a dumb line up designed by the minor leaguer who coaches this team.

Line up looks much better tonight but Kings are very tough. I would have signed on for a win in either of these two games.

Today must be my lucky day. Its my anniversary and once again i get to take my wife out to her favorite restaurant and be back in my man cave before the drop of the puck. These late west coast trips are making me look pretty romantic these days. Now all i need is an Islander win and my day will be complete.

-  The 1st line plays well withOUT Conacher.

-  Hamonic and de Haan are looking Excellent together.   Very happy with our top 4

-  Hickey and Vis have been terrible in their own zone.

-  This team dumps the puck in too often, they rarely maintain puck control into the offensive zone enough.

-  The team plays on their heels in the face of adversity, one goal given up and every thing changes

-  Halak playing a little better...  yes I think so

-  I'd dress Boulton again tonight, but Cizi > Conacher.

Yes a win is a win, but this shouldn't even been close.  The ducks were without their top two offensive weapons. The ducks had their third string goalie in.  I was at the game and pretty much from 5 minutes into the second period the Islanders Defense was atrocious.  The trend of n being able to clear the puck out of your own defensive zone continued.  It is truly amazing when you get a look at the whole ice how bad the isles are on defense.  Halak played amazing and won this game for them. So the isles needed a top performance against a team without its top two offensive weapons and a third string goalie.. I don't care if the ducks are the #1 team in standings.. that #1 team is not the team the islanders faced.  Luckily the refs let both teams play for the most part.

Some more fun stuff from Staple at Newsday..

Isles worst PK in league, but at only 36 times short.

36 times short makes then FOURTH fewest times short in NHL. So you got "bad" coaching on the PK, but "good" coaching as they as almost never short handed.

PP is sixth best in the league- so if a bad PK is "poor" coaching, the a good PP must be "good" coaching.

Thanks to a few people writing they "know" the Isles would have lost had the Ducks dressed a full lineup last night.

So how come you have an issue with me "knowing" Reinhart and Pulock will be excellent players.

Enjoy your day, and the game tonight. Not a single personal insult here, I just took the established convoluted reasoning of a few, and beat them senseless with it.

They needed this win.....now they should put Johnson between the pipes and give Halak a rest.

Really interesting line in Freidmans 30 thoughts this morning. He quotes a GM as saying-" everybody is looking for defenders. I even spoke to a team with 8 guys on one way contracts, and was told none of them are available."

8 guys on one way blue line contracts- that has to be the NY Islanders.. Interesting stuff. If you don't read that guy, your missing out on tremendous insight from around the NHL.

Nice win last night. This team, as written above, needs to find that groove on how to behave when they give up a goal in a close game. They play very strong for 28 minutes-actually they dominate, and then give up a goal. Then the wheels come off, and it gets too exciting.

I don't think it is the head coach, because the same coaching had them dominating for 28 minutes, and there were no line up or personal changes.

There have already been a few games were I believe they would have folded up, and lost had this been last year. But they have work to do in this area if there are to be successful this season.

It would be nice to see Ryan Strome get a goal already. Zero goals in 12 games is a little concerning. Kuleman with his 1 goal is also a little disappointing. The Islanders are going to need these guys to step up amoung other too. Montreal has got to be the luckiest team in the league with there 9-4-1 record for 19 points. 5 games over 500 with only scoring 33 goals and giving up 41. I don't know how some of these teams do it.

@willymayshays  Can someone explain to me why Boychuk is not on the first power play unit?  They were 6-16 on the pp to start the season mainly because of Boychuk's shot from the point.  It is obvious that opposing penalty killers have to account for Boychuk at all times which gives the forwards a little more room to operate.  It seems like common sense to me.  That is coaching.

Also, the lines yesterday (other than the top line) had absolutely no chemistry.  Strome playing with Boulton and Martin is a complete waste of Strome's abilities. Clutterbuck is nothing more than a 4th liner / penalty killer.  One of the Isles best shifts of the game was late in the 3rd when Strome, Nelson and Lee were reunited.   The only reason for the kid line to not be together is if one of them is put on the top line.  Conacher was terrible last night and should be the healthy scratch tonight.

When his coach is misusing him and playing him on the fourth line with martin amd Boulton dont expect much

@mrcisback Neither of those guys are big goal scorers. Kulie is more of a 2 way forward and Strome is a great set up guy. If it was JT or KO with no goals I'd be concerned.

@mrc- small sample size.. It doesn't last.

Puck possession, shot differential and save percentage when playing 5 on 5. Seems so simple, but it is overlooked.

Hold the puck, out shoot the other guys, stop the ones they shoot at you when your playing 5 on 5. The elite NHL franchises all do those things come crunch time. Teams that win the Cup do it best.

@willymayshays I would have Boychuk and Visnovsky with Tavares, Okposo and either Strome or Nelson on the power play.

@NotoriousPING @Richard Gauthier @mrcisback  Strome is expected to be and and WILL be a goal scorer . try not to be the typical Islander fan and call someone a bust because they arent setting fire to the ice every night in their first season. Nelson Lee strome will be a big part of this teams success. you cant base anything an a 12 game sample.
