Report: Knicks looking to trade Shumpert for pick

The Knicks could be looking to trade Iman Shumpert for a first-round pick in Thursday’s draft, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.

Stein reports that the team would prefer a late first-round pick or an early second-rounder if they were to trade the fourth year guard. However, doing so would be difficult because the team cannot afford to spend the $3.2 million allowed by the league in trades.

According to my man @Chris_Broussard, LeBron James' agent Rich Paul has informed Heat that LeBron will exercise early termination option

A day after the Knicks finished their dogged pursuit of Carmelo Anthony, Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams - the player that Donnie Walsh had long coveted - landed with the cross-river rival Nets. Thursday, after the revamped Knicks had gone through their first full practice in Greenburgh, the team president seemed upset with himself for not having gotten involved in the Williams sweepstakes.

Got this off an ESPN comment board post, pretty funny.

Lebron James accomplishments Jordan and Kobe never did:

1. Bronze 2006
2. Bronze 2004
3. NBA finals sweep 2007
4. Go entire Finals scoring 20 pts only one time
5. Quit on his team the year after he promises a championship
6. Dunked on by a highschool kid and then confiscate tape
7. Bail on the dunk contest 9 times
8. Only able to win a ring with 2 superstars
9. 7th best player in NBA finals series.
10. Average 1.8 pts in the 4th quarter of NBA finals.
11. Lose not 1, not 2, but 3 times in the Finals.
12. Host a national televised TV show to leave his team
13. Play on the same team as his moms boyfriend...
14. Go 2 for 18 in an NBA playoff game.
15. Get stuffed by a player under 6 feet (Nate Robinson)
16. Flop every single game in the playoffs
17. Choke 4 out of 5 finals games by dropping FG% by 18
18. Vow revenge for 2007 sweep, then proceed to choke

So Nobody wants Melo?  LOL..according to ESPN the race for melo is crowded:

Carmelo Anthony has yet to publicly reveal the process by which he plans to entertain other teams in free agency now that he has opted out of his contract with the New York Knicks, but the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams that expect to have the opportunity to make their pitch to him starting July 1, according to sources close to the situation.

Teams can't formally contact free agents until 12:01 a.m. ET July 1, but sources told ESPN.com that the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat are two more teams that could join the race for Anthony, depending on how things play out before, during and after Thursday's NBA draft.

An idea sign and trade Melo to Houston for Parsons, Beverly and a first Rd pick. Trade Stump for a late first and try to trade for a mid round first and grab Tyler Ennis. With how bad they are looking to trade Stump that's telling me that Melo isn't returning. Isn't Stump the guy Melo has been protecting the last 3 years?

More on advanced stats:

“ Tell me one guy that they’ve found that nobody knew about . We know about the guys they’ve missed. Two years ago they were down on Damian Lillard. He was too old [then 21 after four years at Weber State without attracting enough interest to enter the draft]. He didn’t play in a major conference. He wasn’t a steals guy. He didn’t shoot a lot of free throws. “They loved Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He got a lot of rebounds and steals. He went to the line. He just couldn’t shoot. How did that work out?” Forbes.com -

If “advanced stats” have yet to demonstrate they’re anything more than trendy in the NBA, they’re part of the countdown to Thursday’s draft. Not that the numbers have been wiggy but they are to mainstream NBA thought what the Marx Brothers comedies were to the 1930s. “They literally have Marcus Smart as the best player in this draft,” says an Eastern Conference GM, who, along with 29 other teams, doesn’t have Smart in his top three. Advanced stats for ya....marcus smart..lol.  He's good, but def not the best player in the draft.

The Sixers have zeroed in on Exum and Noah Vonleh here. They are very high on Exum as a prospect. He obviously plays the same position as Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams. However, the Sixers feel the two can play together and they continue to explore Carter-Williams trades that would land them a third pick in the top 10. The Lakers have strong interest in a package of Carter-Williams and Thaddeus Young for the No. 7 pick and Steve Nash. But so far there hasn't been any traction on that deal, according to sources. Even if they don't move Carter-Williams, they might still lean toward Exum. They have him ranked as a stronger pro. ESPN.com -

Sixers looking to trade the ROY?  lol...

As for trades. There is one player you don`t trade, everyone else is on the block. Shump, reputedly a great defender? His off ball def is at best atrocious. He doesn`t see man and ball, he has no idea of off ball man ball ratios, he is not skilled in getting through or over picks, either on ball or off ball. His offense is very limited. He is not worth the money, if someone wants him bye bye

Early second for shump?  Good lord.

Shumpert signed his walking papers when he made that music video.

"Shumpert doesn't have the handle of a PG nor the shooting of a SG.

He's a PF trapped in a guard's body. "

"So you support a logjam at the 2 just...because? lol"

We've been hearing about Shumpert being traded for a draft pick for the better part of a year now. Wake me up when it happens.

I view Shump as a nice role player for a good team. The problem with him is that he's a "shooting guard" who can't shoot; he doesn 't have the instincts to play the point regularly; and he's not big enough at the 3. The kid is a hard nosed defender though, something this team is short on.

I'd probably be inclined to keep him, although I could understand the interest in trading him for a first round pick in the early to mid twenties. It's ridiculous though to be talking about trading him for a second round pick-that's akin to giving him away.

I suspect he'll still be a Knick past draft night.

I feel like this is some kind of smoke screen, maybe fleshing out what kind of value shump has around the league. No doubt teams would love to get Shump with a pick in the 30s or 40s. Jackson can't give Shumpert away.

I know I'm mostly delusional, but if Shump could work on his handle, he could be Ron Harper in the triangle.

Jabari Parker is just fine with being the next Carmelo Anthony, but he's not so keen on the All-Star small forward's New York Knicks teammates.

In an interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Parker discussed everything from the difficulty of his decision to leave Duke to a hypothetical "two-and-done" rule that would keep collegiate players from entering the NBA until after their sophomore seasons—something Parker termed "ridiculous."

But things got interesting when Patrick asked Parker which NBA player he most resembled. The following exchange ensued (via USA Today's For the Win):

Parker: "A lot of people say Carmelo Anthony. I take a lot of my moves after him and..."

Patrick: "But you pass, though, don't you?"

Parker: "Yeah, I pass. But I have a team."

Patrick: "So, 'Melo doesn't have a team?"

Parker: "Yeah, I don't really think so."

Look out, Knicks; those qualify as shots fired. You know, like the errant shots J.R. Smith and Raymond Felton routinely chucked up—the kind that would make any sane star (Anthony included) think twice about giving up the rock.

damn even a college kid gets it idk how some on this blog don't.

@theking  D'antonis dream...D-will/Amare PnR...in theory it would've been deadly..looking back though...both couldn't stay healthy.

That said, I thought a Lebron/Amare PnR woulda been unstoppable...but hey Lebron went to south beach melo came here stat got hurt...it is what it is.

@bockers  and we would have had dwill you can bet that

@Bo Beck Oh please. Melo stuck up for everybody. HE IS a team player regardless of what folks say. Shump and Chandler quit on the team and Melo probably told Phil privately he wants those guys out of the MSG doors.

@Bo Beck  he also stuck up for stat so theres that .... and parson will not be included in a trade they said it here numerous times

@carl hill  well that was what Irvin sandro dagawd and thethoteric would say, they would say no team would want a cancer and no player would want to play with a selfish ball hog

@1harris1 Y is he not big enough at the three?  6'5"

Half the 3's in the league are 6'5".- 6'6"

Don't box your thoughts in like that.  Shump had no problems guarding 3's.

Is he really a shooting guard?  Especially since he "can't shoot"?

@theking. People only read what they want to read. A college kid knows the supporting cast sucks, but fans that supposedly watch every game, are clueless.

MeloStat301

@brookdon  I think exum is going to be really good...but..MCW surprised some people last season...theyre both big PG's...I guess that's what they feel, exum will be better in the long run.

@brookdon  really brook? I thought mcw was better overall and exum was just a better scorer I could be wrong

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@theking @MeloStat301  True, but philly will look for more than just shump, they trynna grab picks,...lakers offering the #7..but along with steve nash.  Don't think the sixers want to take nash on

Point taken Mel. Some of these "3s" though in the eastern conference are really big: LeBron; Pierce; Paul George; perhaps even Melo if heaven forbid he winds up in Chicago. I think Shump can play the small forward in spots, but I'm not sure he can be effective there regularly (although he did a super job defensively on Pierce in that playoff series year before last).

I think he's really a 2, but his lack of consistent shooting hurts him.

I like Shump. I just don't know that I see the great upside that a lot of others do. I could be wrong though. He's still young.

@Billy Suede @theking  I know I just wanted to point out the fact that even  college kid understands that its just melo on the team by himself

I don't recall you being here at that time, nor was anyone even aware that D Williams was available. The discussion was whether or not we gave up too much and would ever be able to build a team around Melo as we had no cap space or draft picks. That was all sacrificed to get Melo.

theking
theking

@thatsagoodpoint @theking @bockers  did walsh not say he kicks himself for not knowing dwill was available? that means we miss out on melo they jazz would make it known he was on the table and walsh wanted Williams but  we can disagree if you want

It's like a Tea Party is going on here today. Facts are not part of the emotional equation. Melo could be leaving the Knicks and his staunch supporters are distraught, angry, and lashing out.
