Report: Lakers have interest in Tyson Chandler-Pau Gasol swap

Sam Spiegelman

The Los Angeles Lakers have interest in trading Pau Gasol for Tyson Chandler, according to ESPN.

Sources told ESPN’s Chris Broussard that when the Lakers inquired about trading for Knicks guard Iman Shumpert, they did not mention Chandler, but are mulling a potential Gasol-for-Chandler proposal.

Salary-wise, Chandler will cost the Knicks $14.5 million in 2014-15, while Gasol is an impending free agent. The swap would allow the Knicks to have more money to offer free agents over the summer, assuming they do not re-sign Gasol.

Chandler has been sidelined due to a knee injury for 20 of the team’s 24 games. On Monday he is expected to be evaluated for the time, according to Newsday.

The Lakers and Knicks trade talks began over Shumpert, who the Knicks have reportedly been shopping for most of the season.

There are some great NHL games tonight, teams chasing wild card or trying to stay in wild card.  Seriously, curling.  Maybe I should get NHL channel, but my wife would probably divorce me.  On second thought . . . .

BTW,   tonight Wisconsin vs. Michigan in Big 10 hockey tournament at the Joe in Detroit, but what's on NBCSN, U.S. vs. China in mens curling.  I guess I'll wash the dog.

acording to staple lee was practiing with jt and bailey ko with nielsen and kuli and kennedy with nelson and strome. i like nelson kennedy and strome combo could be dangerous together seems kennedy is a put the puck on net kinda guy with strome and nelson both good passers and nelson nbeing a big body with quick hands infront of the net

@redly.  I plugged him with Grabner because of their speed.  I thought Strome because he can stay with them, is a better shooter, and is usually defensively responsible.

@bosstrots1.  How about swapping the RWs Kulemin and KO for your defensive concerns, which I agree with.  But, I don't see JT and KO harmfully similar.

@finnmaccul @bosstrots1 how bout Lee JT Josh,,,, it was working

KO Frans Strome , 2 good defensive players who can get KO the puck.

@finnmaccul @Joey Ferguson Martin Casey Cal & MacDonald have all outscored Kennedy in the last 3 years & Kennedy is not a energy guy who hits, so what does that make him?

@redly                 Noticed I said "sit for a while". Maybe Cal would get a better perspective of things sitting in the pressbox for a few games!

His grinding and hitting will be greatly needed from the Isles no matter who they play in the first round.

@TonyM @redly Cal is not a scorer, & neither is Kennedy. Cal is a hitter  & Kennedy isnt. What does that make Kennedy if hes not a scorer or hitter?

The player who's really gotten a pass from this Blog is Clutterbuck!  Snow traded the overall #5 pick in the 2010 draft for this stiff! Since early December he has ONE empty net goal ! Colin McDonald who is a career AHL player has played better then him in limited games! At this point I'd much rather see Kennedy take his spot on the fourth line and let Clutterbuck sit for a while!

@TonyM The one thing Cal brings to the team is he hits like a S.O.B. Maybe second most hits in the league behind Martin. He to has also outscored Kennedy over the past 3 years.

@TonyM Clutterbuck is 2nd in the league in hits.  He draws penalties.  He kills penalties.  His contribution is greater than the numbers indicate.

The mistake wasn't trading Nino for Clutter and McAdam, it was the best bid at the time - apparently other GMs didn't think much of Nino.  The mistake was drafting him that high, or at all for that matter.  The "overall #5 pick" means nothing to what a player is worth now.  I suppose Lombardi with his 2 cups is an idiot for picking Hickey at #4 and then waiving him.

Clutterbuck is an important player for us.

@since72 @TonyM for the Record , Nino is looking like a 5th pick with 22 goals this year

@TonyM clutterbuck is going to be a huge contributor come playoff time.  he has the ability to get under the other teams skin as good as anyone in the league and he throws his body around as much as anyone.

not every single player has to show up on the stat sheet to be effective.

@redly   Doesn't matter.  It was the best bid at the time.  He whined his way off the team.  LA even passed on him when we tried to get Berrnier.  No interest.  Vancouver passed on him when we tried to get Schneider.  No interest.

Had he kept his mouth shut, he could have won a cup with the Kings.  But he didn't.  Not who he is.

So lets stop waxing rapsodic about this player.  We have the team that we have now and Clutter is an important part of it.

And ya never know what McAdam may become.

@redly yep but either way i dont miss him or his 35 points.  we essentially replaced him with lee and i would much rather lee be burying JT's passes than nino with his me me me attitude

@slapshot18_rs @redly I like Cal but id rather have Nino & his 22 goals in 69 games then Grabovski Kuli & Kennedys 24 goals in 127 games

@since72 @TonyM Lombardi and his coach sent Hickey down to the minors to get more time there.  But the Isles were watching.  Not Lombardi's fault, had no choice.  But hickey imo cannot be getting big ice time and win a cup.

@bosstrots1    I haven't smoked anything in years, but if you think nineteen points in 51 games isn't a "poor" season for someone making over 5 mil per year you have really set the bar low for individual performaces from Islander players!

@TonyM 5 million or not its horrible for a player who not a grinder.

19 in 51 doesnt crack our 3rd line

all Grabovski does good is covering pointmen in our end & picking up players entering our zone

Please:                                     Lee-JT-KO                               scoring chances

                                                 Grabo-Nielsen-Kulemin        controlled play

                                                   Kennedy-Strome-Grabner    speed on attack

Martin-Cizikas-Bailey            less minutes/high energy blasts (Bailey?)

@finnmaccul  have you been watching the past few games? you gotta get JT and KO away from each other they are too much of a defensive liability and play the same game offensively. Cappy wont put those two out there with anyone other than Bailey or Kulemin anyway for obvious defensive reasons.  Bailey is not sitting anytime soon.

Not for nothing one time I made a post with a word the watchers disallowed.  The post was removed.  Why are these Knick posts here??

Can't understand why the knicks traded walt Frazier. And john starks going 3 for 18 in game 7 vs rockets. Damn. And i thought when jeff van gundy left the knicks lost their last best coach. Hopefully phil Jackson can turn this mess around. Go new york, go new york, GO.

As poor a season as Grabovski has had, he's still a better option then Grabner, Clutterbuck and of late Nelson! Kennedy in the short time he has been here has been  more productive then the three players previously mentioned! I would sit Clutterbuck on Saturday and put Kennedy on the fourth line. And when Grabovski returns, I'd sit Nelson if his game hasn't improved!

bosstrots1
bosstrots1

@TonyM  TonyM what are you smoking, the guy has not had a poor season at all, I would rather call it a unique season insofar as no-one has more of an effect on the game with so little production as Grabovski.  I don't know what you call a 200 foot game but I call it a guy rescuing the puck from right in front of his own net and then taking it 200 feet to the door step of the other teams net pretty much every time he is on the ice.  I agree that more points would be nice but Grabovski sets the tone for our entire system.

@bosstrots1 @TonyM don't forget his puck possession is off the charts, his two way game is great and the absence of his forecheck are hurting this team right now

Adam Guttman
Adam Guttman

have to agree - I am a huuugggeee fan of Grabo - his puck management is off the charts and a huge reason why we have lost our swagger - we have lost our swarming mentality and that is because we lost the control guys and started to fill in injuries with more grinders - dump and chase players.  Watch how we turn this around last 5-10 games with Leddy, Viz and Grabo back in.

Combine that with Frans getting dinged and those are four of the best puck possession players on the team. Look no further as to why we have seemed to lose that part of our game.

@redly  Redly, are you serious?  Isles were the best team in the league when Grabbo was skating well and feeling good. Look how they have done without him.  Maybe you should change your handle to Smedly

redly

@bserviss9 @redly Yes Kennedy has played well for us so far , but hes not a grinder & hes not a scorer so what is he? Colin MacDonald hits people & has done more scoring in thius league then Kennedy has in the last 3 years. So what does that make Kennedy?

bserviss9
bserviss9

@redly The fact that you are 2x wrong makes this comment even more hilarious. Kennedy, for the short time he has been on the Islanders, is clearly not the worst player on this team and Grabbo, I'm not even going to entertain that

@bosstrots1 @redly I would love to see what you see in a guy who wont score 10 goals next year. Maybe you should change your name to Boozetrots
