Report: New coach will have no impact on Carmelo Anthony’s decision

Sam Spiegelman

Mike Woodson is out. Perhaps Steve Kerr is in. And none of it matters to Carmelo Anthony.

An associate of Anthony’s told The Sporting News the Knicks’ coaching change will not have any impact on Anthony’s impending free agency. Kerr is considered to be the frontrunner for the job, but sources close to the situation suggest neither Woodson’s departure or another coach’s presence will be a factor.

Yet again, it boils down to winning:

“He wants to be in a situation where he can start winning, and he is going to look at teams based on that,” the source told The Sporting News. “Coaching is only a part of the equation. What they do now is not going to be as important as can they win?

Why would Dolan want to keep the trainer? loyalty? I doubt it very much. How about the trainer knows more about the drugs given to the players. Steroid cremes for example. hmmm.

Let Melodrama walk and end this insanity. Melo is a great player but no player is worth this non sense unless is MJ and as far as I know he retired a while back.

He demanded a trade to the Knicks 4 years ago, made us deplete the team and now wants to walk because we don't have a team. SMH!!!

If Melo wants to win so bad, please he needs to take charge as a franchise player, promote stability, attract free agents with his leadership, change the culture and start a winning mentality.

But he is far from it, he is a great player with a great stats. He held Denver hostage for awhile and now he is doing the same here. I just CANNOT believe you guys don't see that.

Melo is like that hot diva girlfriend that men crave for but know that can never be happy with her bexause of the drama she crabes for.

I am glad PJ is in charge and will not put up with his nonsense for the sake of his reign and Knicks organization.

LET HIM WALK and end this Melodrama!!!

Phil should fire Dolan...if only as a joke...

So the BUlls trade Luol Deng... Let Asik walk.. Let Nate Walk.. let countless other valuable role players just walk because they are trying to cut payroll and Melo is just gonna sign there and trust Jerry Reinsdorf to do everything he can to put a team around him??

MElo aint no fool.

Here is my theory on what will happen if PJ has to keep the trainers and medical folks.

Phil will be on their azzes. Make life a living hell for them. Have them write up  reports ad nauseum. Make them quit. You might see reports of them dropping out like flies one by one. lmao

rgm891

Keep it up PJ. Get rid of mills herb and the medical staff for starters. Change the whole culture. You're our only hope to get this accomplished. Bring it home man. I don't think Dolan is going to interfere but he probably didn't expect PJ to want to make all these changes. It starts from within. Get it done man.

This my thing ..no matter how many people hate on ISO Melo he is a Automatic Scorer consistently

with right Coach and system he would strive but only if he has equally talented scorers to take the pressure off him..you see when we go into scoring droughts there's been times where Melo only lifted us out

so you'd give up a automatic 27 point 8 rebound threat? hoping we get just enough pieces to contend ?

you'd be ok with no one of his magnitude demanding double teams to open up offense?

even though he may not pass in that situation a coach with a plan can turn him into that overall complete player

he's starting to transform into if y'all hadn't notice

his rebounding stepped up and next should be his assist and he also stepped his steals up

so for anyone saying a player like that isn't worth holding onto look at the Playoffs and see that a Team like Chicago that needed offense would take Melo and let him rock

i think we're so used to perfection we forget how now we miss David Lee,Channing Frye, Wilson Chandler and even Mosgov...when healthy because if we lose Melo in situations when we could have used him we'd be on here saying damn we should've kept Melo

lol

I'm sure this was discussed but too may posts to sift through....

If Melo does walk (and we don't get to trade him)...who can we go out and sign with that cap room now?

Didn't Frankie Ice get shut down when he tried to ask a question at Jackson's 1st presser? Deep down I think he is a Knick fan, but he also seems like someone whose feelings are hurt because he's still on the outside looking in...

I know meddling has been Dolans MO but I'm just not going to read too much into this recent report...lets wait and see how things shake out over the summer

Why is it that the more I read about PJ's desire to install a team concept of passers, the more I am convinced Melo will leave?

Great post! Unfortunately, most fans are not smart enough to realize the team is bigger than any star, specially a VERY flawed one like Melo, who can only thrive in an ISO-heavy, plodding offense like the Knicks.

He can't or wont defend, he can't run fast breaks, he won't pass the ball. He is a great scorer, though. Too much drama and not enough production for a max-salary contract.

At 15 millions per year for 3 years, Melo would be great in a Knicks uniform. That is his approximate worth to this franchise.

knickster

In other words, the Bulls should not make the same mistakes the Knicks made - I can agree with that!

@BiggieTKB Dude you are totally off base.  They didn't win anything with any of  those guys they lost.  They thought Rose would be back full strength this year.

If they lose early to the Wiz, then their formula changes immensely.  No way Noah will not go into the FO and demand they make some changes for the better.

The Bulls are on the cusp or beig a real contender and there's no way that FO allow this moment to pass again when they know how hard it was to get back to any relevance after the MJ years.

Remember when they thought they could let MJ and others go so they could just build another dynasty instantly.

This is still the best team for Melo by far!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@knicksgirl35 Yep and this is crazy anyway! Phil would always win this battle so there's no way Dolan would try to block Phil from doing this if he really wanted to do it.

As you say, who would want to stay around knowing Phil really want them out?  Total nonsense!  They sent Isola on a wild chase and both are probably laughing at him now.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@KnickelusKnickleby If Chicago loses this series in the 1st round, They will go after Melo with gusto! They have already signed the amnesty documents for Boozer no matter what.

Noah will put the hard press on Melo to join them for sure.

The Bulls will give Melo all the loving he so truly wants!

Lord knows they need a  true scorer!

@thatsagoodpoint  really?  the business of a reporter is to embellish to sensationalize and get readers??

if that's the case what is to BELIEVE in his articles.

xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint Total Nonsense.  Phil is running the b-ball operations period.  Dolan would look like a complete dud if he did anything to push Phil out before he's even tried to put this team in order.

It's the Phil show for the next 3-4 years at least!  Get used to it! Dolan might not like everything he does but he can get to the front of the line, complain a little and suck it up!

knicksgirl35

@thatsagoodpoint  Isola needs controversy. He's trying to sell papers. That's his lousy job.

The Daily News is a rag.

I am with u on this one. It's not as bad as it seems. Only time will tell.

knicksgirl35

@darealeric  Woodson's offense was stagnant. Lazily set up for jump shots and Melo. People blaming Melo constantly for not passing is getting old and tired.

Tony Fonseca

Thanks Knickster..

I am not questioning his skills as an elite star in the NBA. I am not sure he is that leader in and off the court to lead a franchise to a chip.

He surely has not acted like one by saying that he was going to test free agent to see what it is like at the beginning of the season!!! By saying that he ADMITTED that he was not happy. This happened after a 54 win season!!!!!!

He is one of the reason the Knicks fail miserably this year. They def had enough talent to compete with bulls, Nets, and others. They never achieved the team cohesion, a la Clyde, to compete day in and day out due to lack of trust in the locker room.

In order for the Knicks to win, we need to clean the locker room of players who think that they are bigger than the team.

Phil Jackson has won because he creates that winning and team culture. He def already knows if Melo is worth keeping or not

In PJ I trust to sort things out for the betterment of the future of the New York knicks.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@knickster Melo would be great for us if we had the other pieces to make up for what he lacks.   We do not so keeping Melo is maybe just keeping him away from others like Indy is doing with Bynum.

Ya see how that is working out for them.  They wanted to keep him away from the Heat and they might not even get to meet the Heat!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint LOL or Isola is making stuff up.  There's no way Dolan would make a stance on trainers and etc instead of players.  Of course Phil will change the way the team will train and how they will be treated and etc.

That's part of changing the environment to a winning one

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@kingofny LOL Not from me.  I killed STATues so much that I'm tired of myself.

But I know his contract is up next year so there's an expiration date on him.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Ray Jorge @xmenreturnYIKES!

Melo has options to go to a team he desires providing they can make room for him. That's his options!

Did you read the link I provided above?

Melo plans to opt out and test the market!

Work financially?  The Bulls can amnesty Boozer and with the cap being estimated to go up by 5M, they can sign Melo out right without giving up anything or much.

Ray Jorge
Ray Jorge

@xmenreturn @Ray Jorge First im glad to hear you consider Melo a "BALLER" 2nd what are Melo's options to become a champion next year & enlighten the Knicks blog how it will work financially???

Ray Jorge
Ray Jorge

@kingofny Yes Harden is a little excessive offensively but with a "TRUE' Alpha Male like Melo he will fall in line!(Remember Durant Westbrook & him in that order?) Same would apply if they played together! But don't worry it will never happen & Melo's staying a Knick!

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Ray Jorge @xmenreturnThat's not how it works with ballers dude!

Ballers have huge egos and want to be loved.   The longer Phil waits to show Melo this, the less likely Melo will sign here period.  Melo has options!

Ray Jorge
Ray Jorge

@xmenreturn @Ray Jorge Because Phil understands basketball enough(like I previously stated) that Melo's options to win a championship next year with any club is a pipe dream! So there's no rush he'll allow Melo's camp to watch this years playoffs then share his championship plan with Melo. Easy as 123...(for real thinkers)

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Ray Jorge @xmenreturn Dude, Its not about wanting to get rid of Melo.  It's about Melo having the option to go himself.

I'm looking at this from all sides not just a fan hoping.

In case you are not paying attention, Melo people are oit saying he wants to be courted like Howard and he will look at about 5 teams.

Yet, Phil has not put the hard press on Melo yet.  Does that sound like Phil really needs Melo?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@kingofny That we agree on Kid!  Melo and Harden would be a disaster. Harden has already stated that he's the alpha dog on that team and he takes any shot he wants.

No way that team becomes Melo if he goes there.

The Bulls are the perfect fit for Melo providing the coach make a few adjustments and not burn his team out.

Ray Jorge
Ray Jorge

@xmenreturn @thatsagoodpoint Yes we do! Amare & Rose knees are identical Twins!!! SMDH only in a NY BLOG would someone want to get rid of an allstar averaging 27 pts 8 reb almost 4 assist wanting to tear the team down start over with a 69yrold president who has 13 rings on his resume??? Also hoping that players will want to come to this very NY market where media individuals like yourself believe Melo is the problem. Somehow "You Guys" believe K love or Aldrich will leave & come to the this pressure cooker sans Melo? Do you think Bron goes to Miami for Pat Riley without Wade & Bosh? So now players rush to Ny because of Phil! Phil needs Melo in the worst way & persons with any limited bball understanding will agree.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint But if they had Melo they wouldn't need to play lights out defense all the time.

It's the NBA and b-ball, you can't shut a time out completely.

With Rose and Melo, along with just playing solid defense and turning it up in key moments, team will have to worry about the Bulls running away in a game.

With Rose and Melo, the coach would n't have to be a task master on defense and burn out his players.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint I don't think so because they play tough defense and spirit b-ball. They just lack a true scorer on that team.

If Rose comes back anywhere near normal, they are the team to beat hands down.

Imagine adding Melo and Rose to the existing team and getting rid of Boozer?

Do we have anything remotely like that?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint I see it otherwise. The issue has been why would Melo risk going to a team and making that team lose or be worse?

Well, the bulls have the talent , the coaching and they are missing a bonafide scorer.  There is very little risk for Melo going there because they are not winning anything now.

Yet, with him and maybe Rose  coming back, they would be so much better next year and Melo would get most of the credit as the difference!

Besides, he can pretty keep his existing game intact.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@knicksgirl35 Next Dolan will try to install a nanny cam in Phil office and the locker rooms since Phil has torpedo his peeps!   Kinda a Roboherb!

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@thatsagoodpoint @xmenreturn  The medical staff and trainers suck if you go by all of the injuries that occurred game after game.

Now I think Dolan may want to keep them not to be nicey boss but because they've done so much dirt at Dolan's request.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@thatsagoodpoint Yep. I'm sure Dolan wanted Herb around the team to to report back to him too.  Phil is smart to know that he needs HIS guys in place and that he will do this his way or he would not be here.

Once Dolan agreed to have Phil here, he lost control of the b-ball operation and he can whine internally or wherever he wants.

This was his doing to bring own Phil so suck it up and hope Phil delivers or get on board and help him do it by being fully supportive.

darealeric

Hmmmm, so everything I have seen him do on a basketball court WITH MY OWN EYES that just confirms many of the traits former coaches and teammates of his have already stated publicly, makes ME the lemming?

knicksgirl35

@darealeric  If your line of thinking about Melo is that he is selfish than there's nothing that I can say to change your mind. You are a lemming. You should learn to think for yourself.

darealeric
darealeric

Are you so sure? Do you really think he's going to do that? I say bullspit. I don't think Melo wants any part of being on a team, only more selfish ISOs...

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@thatsagoodpoint @knicksgirl35 @darealeric  He already said he'd be willing to give up $$$ to win. If they come at him with a good plan and they get rid of the slackers that stunk up the place night after night he'll stay and give up the cash.
