Stat and Melo back in business

Harris Decker

Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e StoudemireSaturday night was a product of several games in the making. We saw it creeping in and last night it hit Knicks fans worldwide. Amar’e Stoudemire is playing great and he’s doing so off great performances, and passes by Carmelo Anthony.

When Anthony signed in New York, fans dreamed about Stat and Melo becoming a dominating 1-2 punch in the Knicks front court. Now, several years into Anthony’s contract, the duo is playing great together, working off of each others strengths and scoring at will.

What’s different about their games is how Stoudemire has evolved as a player. Early in his career, Stoudemire worked the space in between the arc and the rim, using the pick and roll in devastating fashion. He and Steve Nash were dynamic, accounting for a huge portion of the Phoenix Suns offense.

It looked a lot like this:

Now that Stoudemire is in the latter part of his career, he is developing a post game that seems at times to be unstoppable. Instead of relying on great passing from a point guard, he is getting himself comfortable inside 12 feet, catching the ball and then patiently working his way to the basket. He’s understanding when to pass out of those spots but more importantly, is showing his touch, willing balls into the basket over and over.

Remember a few off seasons ago when we heard about Stoudemire working with Hakeem Olajuwon? It seems like those lessons are finally paying off. In the last few games he’s backed down Chris Bosh, Chris Andersen and Spencer Hawes and at times, has made it look easy. If you watch the highlights from last nights game against the 76ers, you can see some of the moves that Stoudemire worked on with Olajuwon. Check it out here:

It’s really great to see these two playing well together. 2 of Anthony’s 7 assists were to Stoudemire and even when they weren’t passing directly to one-another, Anthony’s ability to hit outside and Stoudemire’s ability to work the paint made the defense open up like at no other time this season.

I can't wait for our team to get to .500 so Biggie and akamarb can announce that we are on top of the world.  It's all good since we are finally starting to win a few games.

Let's keep it going because it must be nice sitting on a perch from the top of the world.

Its true we overpaid for Amare, but he brought relevance to NY. I also believed we gave up to much for Melo. Felton is not the best point guard but he can handle the pressure in NY. The problem is he plays to many minutes. The team we have has flaws but it also poses problems for other teams. Bargs is a steal weak rebounder and team defender one on one as a defender  he is ok. The backcourt is sound, we have three points and Murry will be good in a couple of years and he has height. The future Melo, Shump, Hardaway jr, Bargs, (you cant teach height)  Murry a big point guard that defends a plus, Amare,  on a cheaper budget. Chandler till contract expires. So we would need a new power forward, a center and Felton as back up to Murry, Felton can handle the New York pressure  but not the minutes.

LMAO

Yeah guys, I'm really in jail. A jail that gives me access to a computer and free wi-fi, just so I can post here. I knew that the mockery would begin when I exposed part of my life like that but you guys can come out with some brilliant stories about it, thanks for the laughs.

Hey, the Knicks have won a couple in a row. I'm still here posting. So what's up with all that "he'll only be back when the Knicks lose" theory? LOL

You really make me feel like the most important person in this blog, you guys call my name more often than you do about the Knicks. Thanks for making me feel special, now that I'm incarcerated!

Regarding the Knicks:

Amare misses 40 games injured - people are haters for saying he's done.

Amare plays 3 good games - people aren't delusional dor saying he is back.

Knicks lose 9 in a row - people are haters for bashing on them.

Knicks win 5 in a row - people aren't delusional for saying they're ECF material.

TKB logic is amazing.

Shutout to SheSaidSpikeWho, Dr.Dolanitis, OLD_KNICK, Knicks_Fanatic, rgm832, Chris, Tikki and ZeBeto. You're knowledge about the game is what keeps me checking this blog still.

To all the others, I tuly hope that your children and family never go through the misery that I have to watch everyday around here, "in jail". Maybe that would be the only way you'd stop making a mockery about serious business like this but...I'd never wish you bad.

Another Win guaranteed against Phoenix, thank you Bledsoe! Playoffs are safe, go Knicks!

PS - JR should still be traded. Woodson should still be fired.

I would trade a high seed for a fully healthy team any day of the week. Having both would be ideal but given a choice i'll take health every time.

I cannot wait til the day we prove all these haters wrong especially barkley, who give us no respect.  It's truly up to Woodson to figure out this rotation because in the playoffs all these players are not going to be getting this much burn or even any at all.  It has been to long to quit on this team now guys.  I don't mind losing, it's the way we lose games.  If we lose a game, but we played hard and smart so be it.  It's time to man up and believe we can beat anyone in the NBA.  I love how we're under the radar.  Let's continue sneaking up in this eastern conference and get all our players back.  I am one of the biggest felton critic's just like most of us are, but if he can continue getting dribble penetration, what a huge plus that will be for our team.  Melo needs to continue racking in those assist, it's so beautiful to watch.  A healthy Tyson Chandler is a must for this post season, cause we all know Hibbert will not destroy him if he's healthy.  Woodson needs to continue to grow and learn from his mistake and be a coach and not a father figure to these players.  I rather our team be fully healthy than fighting our as$es off for the Atlantic division again. We need to get above that 6 seed and go to war!!! Let's continue the streak and beat Phoenix. One game at a time.

@illmatix

It took the Knicks 30 games into the season to start winning some, and once they do, bloggers point their attention to me.

Thank you, although I appreciate the honor of being mentioned so often, I miss my anonymity days already.

Let's go Knicks?

@akamarbConsidering how weak the Heat are in the middle, I would think Pat Riley has him at a psychiatrist and hypnotist to get him to guarantee to help out.

@dagawd. Dolan is the worst owner EVER..... He swears he's a GM and he's the one who always includes draft picks in trades... Just ask Donnie Walsh

@Jimmy Actually, we should trade Chandler for a good point guard and a decent rebounder ..

Yea...this guy doesn't lead...lol...he's basically telling JR hey...its put up or shut up...and you have no one to blame but yourself....which says a lot about Melo...because yea they're friends...but also have ties off the court. I believe Melo is a Godfather to Jr kid or something...its a seleration of family and business...I respect that from Melo.

brookdon

At one point early in his career Melo had these same issues off the court. He's seemed to grow up and move on from it. Hopefully he sincerely gets JR to "get it".

@OLD_KNICK I'm a man but I gotta say I love me some Carmelo Anthony. The most misunderstood player in the NBA and the one with the most heart. Much respect.

@Jimmy @illmatix No. It's easy to talk about any and everything else. I'm the woman on this blog yet these men are the gossipers. It's really quite enlightening and revealing lol.

@akamarb

Are you talking about the Grunwald that traded 2 draft picks for Camby, offering him a 3yr, 12 mil contract? Or the Grunwald that gave that Novak that you speak of, a 4yr, 16 mil contract?

Do you call giving a 1st rounder for Bargnani a golden deal?

@akamarbLOL  I want us to be contenders or make some noise in the playoffs.  You seem to accept any mediocre of positivity as awesome.  We are NY, we should expect more.

So the Nets beat Miami twice, OKC and the Clips and I still think they are very lacking now. They even have a 1 game lead over us.

@illmatix

 It's the Hitler approach: If your opinion doesn't match theirs, you get shut down. They even took it to the personal level, talking ish about my life.

I disagree A LOT with some posters here, but I don't go around insulting them or talking ish about whatever they do on their lives. And, even though my opinions are on opposite side, I never claim that the others aren't Knicks fans.

Everyone can have their opinion, everyone vent differently on the team and everyone has his own way to support them.

 Easy as that.

Bargnani isn't worth that pick. Just the fact that he is a rotation player doesn't equal giving up that pick.

Knicks are back...enjoy it. Yes the Knicks are not a perfect team but who is? Can the knicks playing this way beat anybody? Yes they can...so let's just say they keep this level of play up through the season and playoffs the knicks dont have more than a lunchers chance to make a run? Sure they do. This all remains to be seen still..but they are clicking and playing better...holding opponents to 87 ppg during the stretch...its pretty good right now..enjoy the wins...some people here enjoy losses more than wins...but then again...I guess that wouldn't make them a fan anyway.

@akamarb

NBA games aren't played in Portugal, are they? I mentioned 6hour differential because that's the gap between here and NY.

And I do know that we'll end above .500 ball. Not because we're a great team, but because we are in the East.

knicks313
knicks313

@BiggieSmalls

 Believe whatever you want. You don't think I'm here, fine. You can believe whatever you chose to. You also opt to believe that Woodson is a good coach and Glen was a good GM and none is true so....

And I never mentioned a church, I mentioned a school. Seems like you could use some though. Get on a plain and meet me here.

knicks313
knicks313

@akamarb I had no reason to lie about it. My dad is Angolan, hence my connection with this country. I do understand the doubt though, sadly there are not many people willing to do humanitarian work. I am no saint, I am no Gandhi, but I do the little I can to help out. It's unbelievable how you guys went on a joke fest about it. You could have a hard time believing me, but making fun of the situation on itself was pretty rude.

 I've said that the Suns were in a better position than us. An they are. They have a young talented core, they have financial flexibility and draft picks. Their assets are coveted around the league. Compare that to the Knicks.

And no, we don't got this. We're playing below .400 ball. How can you say that we got this?

Unless you intend to break LeBron, George, Bosh or Hibbert legs, the Knicks won't even make the ECF, while Dolan, Melo, JR, Woodson and Amare were all talking Championship or bust. How do we got this?

Ratso Rizo
Ratso Rizo

@BiggieSmalls Or they figured that if they suspended him on circumstantial evidence the Yanks could save 25m. They gave him 211, simply because they couldn`t prove it and don`t like him. It is pure BS on MLB,they encouraged guys to use them to bring in the fans after the Strike, and now are trying to play holier then thou that they will find and punish the guys that kept them afloat

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@angelbx @brookdon Could be true...a good woman in your corner can help even the most immature men.

Although, if JR had the endorsements, etc Melo has, he would have no choice but to get it together.
