Stat and Melo back in business

Harris Decker

Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e StoudemireSaturday night was a product of several games in the making. We saw it creeping in and last night it hit Knicks fans worldwide. Amar’e Stoudemire is playing great and he’s doing so off great performances, and passes by Carmelo Anthony.

When Anthony signed in New York, fans dreamed about Stat and Melo becoming a dominating 1-2 punch in the Knicks front court. Now, several years into Anthony’s contract, the duo is playing great together, working off of each others strengths and scoring at will.

What’s different about their games is how Stoudemire has evolved as a player. Early in his career, Stoudemire worked the space in between the arc and the rim, using the pick and roll in devastating fashion. He and Steve Nash were dynamic, accounting for a huge portion of the Phoenix Suns offense.

It looked a lot like this:

Now that Stoudemire is in the latter part of his career, he is developing a post game that seems at times to be unstoppable. Instead of relying on great passing from a point guard, he is getting himself comfortable inside 12 feet, catching the ball and then patiently working his way to the basket. He’s understanding when to pass out of those spots but more importantly, is showing his touch, willing balls into the basket over and over.

Remember a few off seasons ago when we heard about Stoudemire working with Hakeem Olajuwon? It seems like those lessons are finally paying off. In the last few games he’s backed down Chris Bosh, Chris Andersen and Spencer Hawes and at times, has made it look easy. If you watch the highlights from last nights game against the 76ers, you can see some of the moves that Stoudemire worked on with Olajuwon. Check it out here:

It’s really great to see these two playing well together. 2 of Anthony’s 7 assists were to Stoudemire and even when they weren’t passing directly to one-another, Anthony’s ability to hit outside and Stoudemire’s ability to work the paint made the defense open up like at no other time this season.

So Sandro - since in your recent posts you said we will finish above 500 not because we are a good team, but because we are in the east...how do u explain us beating the two top teams in nba in the last week - is that a fluke ???

akamarb
akamarb

any word on where Bynum might be heading ??

I can't wait for our team to get to .500 so Biggie and akamarb can announce that we are on top of the world.  It's all good since we are finally starting to win a few games.

Let's keep it going because it must be nice sitting on a perch from the top of the world.

can anyone tell me why James Dolan was at the Golden Globes last night ?? did he get nominated for a best song from JD and the Straightshooters or did he pay a lot of money to sit amongst celebrities ?

Does anyone else still have trouble logging in on an iPhone? I'm using a 4s and have the current ios and for whatever reason I can't get on. And believe me I'd love to get on because there are still a lot of red flags about this team that are being ignored by the positive paulas.

@illmatix

It took the Knicks 30 games into the season to start winning some, and once they do, bloggers point their attention to me.

Thank you, although I appreciate the honor of being mentioned so often, I miss my anonymity days already.

Let's go Knicks?

shut up...GG was a GREAT GM....how is Timmy WOrking out as a late first round draft pick ???

novak is getting DNPS and averaging 3.5 ppg while Bargniani has played EVERY game so far and has been better then advertised....both deals looks golden right now

@akamarbConsidering how weak the Heat are in the middle, I would think Pat Riley has him at a psychiatrist and hypnotist to get him to guarantee to help out.

akamarb
akamarb

would u want Bynum if we could get him

akamarb
akamarb

what hype ?? so we cant be happy when our team is playing good and handily beat the two top teams in the NBA last week - why cant we be happy about that ??

akamarb
akamarb

at least u showed up u little snake

i guess beating Spurs / Mavs / Heat and one bad posession from beating Rockets - are a fluke ??? dont be silly

no one is saying we are the best team in NBA...but we are playing great and have a chance to become really good....stating anything less then that would be indigenous

akamarb
akamarb

of course there are still red flags...no team is perfect...and no one is saying we will beat heat/pacers...but bottom line is this....we have beaten some great teams recently...felton and stat are playing good...jr and shumpert are re energized...and after hacing everyone write this team off ... its good to see some good basketball ( although there are still plenty of holes )...and yes I have trouble logging in from my phone as well

@Jimmy @illmatix No. It's easy to talk about any and everything else. I'm the woman on this blog yet these men are the gossipers. It's really quite enlightening and revealing lol.

illmatix

@Jimmy @illmatix there plenty to talk about besides Sandro....and for the record I have been only using one name here for years as many here can attest to

illmatix
illmatix

@SandroGuedes @illmatix ....i find it funny that you are labeled a "hater" when all you are doing is expressing you opinion on a team you claim to be a fan of

Of course, everyday all day even on our worst days....LET'S GO KNICKS!

knicks313
knicks313

@akamarb

Are you talking about the Grunwald that traded 2 draft picks for Camby, offering him a 3yr, 12 mil contract? Or the Grunwald that gave that Novak that you speak of, a 4yr, 16 mil contract?

Do you call giving a 1st rounder for Bargnani a golden deal?

@akamarb

"GG was a GREAT GM"

That's grounds to have him committed again your honor!

@akamarbLOL  I want us to be contenders or make some noise in the playoffs.  You seem to accept any mediocre of positivity as awesome.  We are NY, we should expect more.

So the Nets beat Miami twice, OKC and the Clips and I still think they are very lacking now. They even have a 1 game lead over us.

akamarb
akamarb

but amongst actors and stuff ? it just makes zero sense for him being there ... its like bill gates being at the golden globes...dolas has NOTHING to do with music/movies

@akamarb Glad I'm not the only one with that issue. Hope they fix it because I do not want to have to log in with twitter.

And yeah it's nice to see some decent play and they're actually making me look forward to Knicks games again but we're still buried under .500. I see a lot of people, not naming names (biggie, kc, melostat) that are calling us back and surefire ECF team. I'm sorry but if we don't win the division we're a likely 7 or 8 seed due to the hole we've dug for ourselves and are we going to beat Indiana or Miami in the first round? I doubt it.

@SandroGuedes im proud to say I support...and agree with you. Your entitled to have your own opinion, and be respected as a Man!

#leave that Man alone.

knicks313

@illmatix

 It's the Hitler approach: If your opinion doesn't match theirs, you get shut down. They even took it to the personal level, talking ish about my life.

I disagree A LOT with some posters here, but I don't go around insulting them or talking ish about whatever they do on their lives. And, even though my opinions are on opposite side, I never claim that the others aren't Knicks fans.

Everyone can have their opinion, everyone vent differently on the team and everyone has his own way to support them.

 Easy as that.

@BiggieSmalls

Tell me what's this roster biggest winning streak and losing streak this season, please.

@BiggieSmallsWhy would they need a shooter when they have Granger and Cope?  Indy is deep already.

@sandroGuedes... They both did some good some bad.... We never should give up our draft picks tho....peace

@BiggieSmalls

Bargnani isn't worth that pick. Just the fact that he is a rotation player doesn't equal giving up that pick.

akamarb
akamarb

im talking bout the Glen that fessed up to his mistakes in the 1st year and traded 2 untradeable contracts and got us back a good player in Bargniani...who btw u said would be a mircale if he played 50 games this year....

yet he has played EVERY DAME SO FAR

pringles chips are the best ... make sure u pack them next to ur fruits in your lunch bowl !!

xmenreturn

@akamarbLOL Who says Walsh was an "A".  He was Walshed upHe brought us Pringles.

akamarb
akamarb

his work was almost as good as Walshes ... if Walsh was A then GG is A1

akamarb
akamarb

so we dont need rebounding help ? i beg to differ

akamarb
akamarb

our biggest issue..which hasnt been evident recently...is NOT the lack of a true pg ( our 3 way trio of felton/prigs murry or beno ) can do the job ).....by far our biggest weakness is rebounding....in the playoffs when the game slows down and we are playing bigger teams, and teams are out rebounding us by 20 and are getting ten extra posessions....we will feel it then

would love to get a humphries or a reggie evans in here somehow

akamarb
akamarb

they are playing better as wel...they will finish #4 in east while we will finish #3 - BOOK IT

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@akamarb Like I stated above look at the Nets. Would you consider them on their way?

akamarb
akamarb

beating the top 2 teams in the nba handily and being one posession away from 6-0 start is NOT mediocrity...we are on our way back to stardom - u little negative nancy!! dont forget to pack your fruits in your lunch bowl today !!

akamarb
akamarb

but we are championship contenders .. what is the problem there

thatsagoodpoint
thatsagoodpoint

@akamarb Not sure what you're implying but saying that we were championship contenders and then hiring Steve Mills moments before the season started was some of the finest acting mine eyes have ever seen.

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

Knicks are back...enjoy it. Yes the Knicks are not a perfect team but who is? Can the knicks playing this way beat anybody? Yes they can...so let's just say they keep this level of play up through the season and playoffs the knicks dont have more than a lunchers chance to make a run? Sure they do. This all remains to be seen still..but they are clicking and playing better...holding opponents to 87 ppg during the stretch...its pretty good right now..enjoy the wins...some people here enjoy losses more than wins...but then again...I guess that wouldn't make them a fan anyway.
