Steve Kerr could seek $24 million deal from Knicks

According to the New York Post, Steve Kerr is likely seeking a deal structured similarly to Mike D’Antoni’s $24 million contract that he signed with the Knicks in 2008.

N.Y. Post? That and The Daily News smh. Both rags are the last place I go to for Knick news. I'll go on record here that I don't want Kerr at ALL. I'd rather Derek Fisher or Mark Jackson. I highly doubt the "Triangle" will be implemented on this team. It's old news these days. Multi-dimensional players are the thing, and Phil knows this.

Does anybody realize that the MAIN reason he hasn't taken the job is because he already has one? And that his AGENT is the one pushing for the deal and not Kerr? I don't think it's as deep as you guys are making it.

The Blazers have led for 33 seconds of the Spurs series so far...ouch

I'm sorry but these two stories just don't jive with me...

First Kerr is mulling the Knicks job vs. taking the golden state job.... Then he's asking for a kings ransom to come to NY.

Golden state is smart to not be locked into one candidate... They've interviews hollins and have a reasonable List of candidates.

I've no beef with Kerr ... Yet.. He ' s more than likely going to get the job... Brad Stevens, an accomplished college coach, got 6 years 22 mil..

In the end who cares as it doesn't affect the cap..it's just the perception of a money grab (for a job Kerr isn't in love with taking) that feels dirty.

Some pair of balls on Kerr to demand top dollar when he has zero experience..

If he gets that coin a target is square on his back.

He'd be smarter to take a nondescript three year deal with the third year at his option.... If he had any confidence in his ability he would do that.. His second contract given any success would set him up for life..

Demanding top dollar with zero coaching resume is bad form.

That's strike two... Strike one was not accepting the offer now near three weeks ago

@IanBegley: .@ESPNSteinLine & I report that Warriors think Steve Kerr is in 'too deep' with #Knicks to accept Golden State job: http://t.co/zi4LiCBH6Z

No prob with Knix giving Kerr this money. He will be tied to Phil jax n I like that.

Again, Kerr will be an extension of Phil jax n that is exactly what we need. I don't need any retreads like George Karl, mike dunleavy or Avery Johnson.

If Phil was not here, mark jax would be a great choice but he does not fit with Phil jax.

I trust in Phil.....work your championship, proven system with Kerr who knows it like the back of his hand.

This one of those weird games where it was nothing the nets did to stop the heat; they just missed shots.

Conversely, nets scored a bunch on broken plays and mirza heaves.

Expect a BIG game from miami on mon.

Knick stupid to even consider him, asinine to give him this deal

Btw, the onky pg making more than deron williams 1in 2013-2014 is Chris Paul. Pgs making less include:

Rose, Westbrook, Parker, Curry, Holliday, Rondo, and Lawson.

but im proving to you, no pt brooklyn getting past the heat with 46% field goal percentage.

Is steve kerr using the philly jax way to coach this team or is he doing it the hard away?

Sadly, the idiots over at netsdaily actually think deron is having a "great" game. Yes, I said "great."

I hope for Phil's and Kerr's sake this works.  If not, Dolan is going to go ape-s***

'When Mike D’Antoni was hired in 2008, he signed a four-year, $24 million pact. Kerr is believed to be seeking something in that neighborhood, possibly with a fifth-year team option.'

I'm confused, I thought it was 30?

What's going to be Kerr's nickname if he comes here? lol

@J Cap  Have you considered that maybe it's because he's weighing the pros and cons of moving to a different coast, leave his family behind, and embark on a very risky project that could either make or break his future as an NBA coach?

@kingofny

The most he can get on the market is a $90M deal, right?  So is he really taking a paycut by playing for anything more than that?

@kingofny

Melo will still be the highest paid employee in the Knick land. The Knicks have no choice but to pay him whatever he asks for. He will do fine.

If I were in his shoes, I'd probably trip over my own two feet! Those are some big shoes......

@BiggieTKB

Phil Jackson wants Kerr to coach the Knicks. This puts Kerr in a powerful position. Dolan has already stated that Phil is making the basketball decisions. If Dolan doesn't want to pay Kerr, then Dolan is back in charge. I'd say Kerr has the upper hand in negotiations.

@BiggieTKB  There was no formal offer three weeks ago. Are we really judging a coach based off how long negotiations may take? You are smarter than that Biggie.

@OLDKNICK  It sounds like the Warriors are gonna drag this search on and take their time. Favors the Knicks. I think Kerr to the Knicks is a done deal....eventually.

Who should coach the knicks? Also why shouldn't they give him a 5 year deal like antoni?

Trust me Old Knick, there are Net fans lurking on here right now. They're just not saying anything just in case Miami comes back.

He did win 5 rings and work as a GM in Phoenix, along with Phil's and Pop's endorsement.

If that's your trash, you are high class.

Your favorite band sang this;

That's the way of the world
Plant your flower and you grow a pearl
A child is born with a heart of gold
The way of the world makes his heart grow cold

Must have played that one a couple hundred times back in the days of gigging around the east coast.

Do you really think Phil doesn't have a plan B? And his whole strategy revolves around getting Kerr?

If that's the case I'll call it a mistake to put all your eggs in one basket.

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

Yes he probably hasn't received a written contract proposal... But since the meeting with Phil Kerr has been mulling the Knicks job vs. taking the golden state job..

I'm initially judging a coach based on his confidence and commitment to the job.... If he wanted to be here and working with Phil was his life's dream he would not have left his first meeting w out a contract...now that he's asking for a retirement payday I think it's a little pigish .. Yes he should want security but the demands of five years just rubs me the wrong way given his experience level...

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieTKB

If Phil decides he wants to hire Kerr as plan A and Kerr is negotiating a contract with Mills, sounds like a deal is in the works. Kerr is an experienced NBA executive and is angling for the best deal. Dolan has to sign Kerr after hiring Phil.

BigChiefTriangle
BigChiefTriangle

@BiggieTKB

The 5-year component is in line with Phil's contract, so if they're viewed as a coaching "team", then I can understand that component.

But a coach with zero track record asking for the same annual salary as Popovich, right off the bat - like you said, Dolan's money, but I was not expecting money to be the holdup in negotiations for a first-time coach,,,and this much money at that, wow.

Knicks_Fanatic

@carl hill

Kerr has the highest career 3 field goal percentage in the NBA. He has hit plenty of big shots in big games. Both PJ and Pops trusted him and put him on the floor in crunch time. He understands what it takes to win.

If Kerr gets a 5 year deal and support from Phil, then they can tune out whatever players they want. I'd assume that JR, Felton, and Bargnani will be gone ASAP. Kerr axed D'Antoni and quickly axed Terry Porter. He won't suffer any fools. The Knicks need a complete rebuild and will get high IQ, winning players.
