Steve Mills needs to go all in on a point guard

Harris Decker

I’m not ready to commit to who the guy is, but the time has come for Steve Mills to make something happen. With all the discussion about Kyle Lowry, Jeff Teague and of course, Rajon Rondo, it’s time for Mills to stop messing around and go all in on the guy he wants.

Rajon Rondo

Mills will be judged on his ability to bring in a second superstar to play alongside Carmelo Anthony. The time has come for Mills to try and make that move.

Hang up on the Hawks.

Hang up on the Raptors.

Call Danny Ainge and figure out exactly what it will take to get Rondo to New York and then ask him how soon he can fly down to sign the deal. In fact, I’d be willing to personally fly Mills up to Boston to get this done. I don’t want a middle of the road point guard. I want my elite point guard and I want him now!

Do I sound like I’m frustrated? I am.

There is no player — or pick, for that matter — that should stand in the way of bringing Rondo to New York. If it takes a package of Iman Shumpert, Tim Hardaway Jr. and a pick, it’s a done deal. The Knicks need a point guard more than anything because it makes Carmelo that much better. He wouldn’t have to shoulder the entire load and could really thrive with another top caliber player.

Get it done, Steve.

Chandler and Stat for Pau and Kaman and Hill

Shumpert and Felt on for whomever is willing to give up picks for them

Let Pablo and Beno run PG for the rest of the season

Good idea lets just trade all of our assets for one lower tier 1 PG  if the knicks trade Shump TH JR and a pick to get rondo or maybe even 2 knowing the knicks i think I'm done with this team until 2015

The only thing Steve Mills has ever gone "all in on" is trying to cover up a sexual harassment suit perpetrated by his management team and other employees.

Trades?  What where? Believe it when I see it.

I've always said the best deal the Knicks have for rondo is...

Shumpert/ThJR/Pick/Amare for Rondo/Wallace

Avery Decker
Avery Decker

Felton, Shumpert and Metta World Peace + a draft pick for Jameer Nelson?

Here are 2 things that work out for the Knicks.

1. The Knicks are willing to take on the Celtics bad contracts (Wallace, Green, etc.)

2. The Celtics may be running out of teams to trade Rondo to. No one is gonna take Rondo unless he's gonna sign a contact extension. The Kings had a deal but fell through because he wasn't gonna re-sign. The Raptors were working a deal together but fell through because Rondo wasn't gonna re-sign.

Rondo has a lot of leverage here. And similar to Carmelo in 2011, he could make it clear and say he wants to play for the Knicks, that would give the Knicks all the leverage. Still it's unlikely by Thursday, but I wouldn't be surprised if Rondo eventually finds his way here. Knicks just got to be patient and smart about it.

Thankfully, all this nonsensical ideas are put to rest by the simp,e fact there is no way on earth the knicks can get Rondo.

The Knicks do have one big advantage here and that is they're so desperate for a PG that they'll be willing to take every bad contract from the Celts. Also, the C's will go full tank mode without Rondo and will be closer to one of Wiggins/Embiid/Parker.

Why would Rondo come here??:

The Knicks still are trying to land Boston point guard Rajon Rondo, intensifying their efforts the past two weeks, but appear to lack the required assets for Celtics general manager Danny Ainge, who wants a package of first-round picks. The Knicks only have their 2018 first-rounder to deal, but in-the-hunt teams such as Toronto and Sacramento reportedly are pulling back on big packages because Rondo won’t commit to signing am extension.

A source told The Post recently Rondo would love to play for the Knicks not just because of his friendship with Anthony, but because he would love to compete against Brooklyn’s Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, his former Celtics teammates.

Before any dumb trades that will sink the team further, the knicks need to fire Woodson.

All this trade talk only serves the purpose of distracting fans from the real issue: when will Woodson get fired?

Does THJ remind anyone else of James Harden?  Nasty stroke, nearly impossible to stop in the open floor.  Obviously has a ways to go, but that's who he reminds me of personally.

Brian Bardin

Do you really think Ainge will trade within his own division? It's not like the Knicks really have much to offer. It would probably need to be a 3 team trade with someone who has picks!!!

KnickelusKnickleby

THJR is only going to get more lethal in the league. if Knicks wanna Win hold on to the best assets they have and see who is desperate to take the BS we can provide them.

there is a few teams that need pieces like backup PG's in Felton,Beno

SG's like JR and Shump and a Center like Chandler or SF/Vet like MWP

Sad that we've come to this...Blowing up a team that had a good run last season. smh

All in?  Like what?  We have nothing anybody wants other than THjr.  Even the 2018 pick has little value it's 4 years away.

KnickelusKnickleby
KnickelusKnickleby

ok so Mills has to know is this

We have a surefire SF/PF in Melo

a Surefire SG in TImmy JR

a Surefire PF in Tyler

a Surefire Vet like Stat

a servicable Backup like Prigioni

and thats about it

What Teams need a Center? lets shop Chandler i mean he has no offensive game and the game is getting less Defensive Center savvy they're pulling Centers out and hitting Jumpers now

We have a Slew of Guards and MWP

tell me we can't get a decent PG with those assets

The Rondo Train is great but we can't give up Timmy thats the Future of the Knicks

Worst case scenario we do a trade for Rondo he regresses because his chemistry with someone isn't up to par then he turns into a cancer

we gave up a rising star in Timmy JR and got more headaches

i say go after a PG that can hit a consistent Jumper and create for teammates as well as is tough for opposing guards to handle

someone stated we should go after Stuckey or Bynum w/ Monroe i think thats fairly decent

they tend to go off

The Knicks and Nets are on a similar path trading away the future, picks and young players, for "star" players. No other team in the NBA is trying that. Both teams are under .500. Not exactly a winning strategy.

@purehussle

we can get that pick from the Suns, they have (3) 1st round unprotected  and looking to unload 1 of the  picks

chandler to the Suns for the 1st rounder

@purehussle ha ha you're a funny guy.

Yea right, we're going to give up just Timmy and JR Smith and get Rondo.

@knickster  I think it's basically to forget about the disastrous season we've had and that our FO is way too imcompetent to do anything of impact for this team aside a few minor trades and stick to this awful coach that has murdered/butchered and sucked this team's soul.

VerySilentJay

@MeloStat301  Why would Rondo go to Toronto despite their present level and standing?

Why would Rondo stay in Boston who's in eternal tank mode?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@MeloStat301 LOL Paul and Garnett will be 50 next year so the competition will be quite short lived.  I would think Rondo would want to come here to put it in their faces but that requires having real talent other than Melo.

Nothing like having the old folks being able to whup your butt and then pat ya on the head! lol

@knickster  In all likelihood, after this Shakespearean nightmare/tragedy/disaster of a season is over.

Personally, I tihnk it should've been done months ago.

VerySilentJay

@tommy2b  Rumors are that Ainge is in "draft pick watch and looking to collect".

If his price is 2 first rounders of no specific years...you do it.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@kneggyknik  Pure conjecture.

Maybe the trade is way beyond complex and difficult to pull off the and either FO isn't convinced.

This has nothing to do with Melo or the Knicks.

It's about FO's at this moment.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@Knicks_Fanatic  It is, it just depends how smart you are about it.

Look at how LA did it in the past. Boston to acquire KG and Allen.

Miami to put the 2 and 1/2 men together.

GS to bring in Bogut, Lee and fill their bench.

Rockets.

Clippers.

The examples go on. If you're smart and patient about it, it can work. These attributes cannot be directed at the Knicks' FO.

kidrobot

@VerySilentJay @MeloStat301  We are in eternal tank mode by default because of a lack of quality leadership.  The Celtics are strategically a team tanking to load up to win another championship.

Why would rondo come to one of the absolute worst teams in the League?

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@VerySilentJay @MeloStat301  Why would Rondo come here with all the pressure and not have the horses to really deliver?

How soon before everyone starts to say Rondo can't shoot?

Rondo isn't the player we thought he was?

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@xmenreturn @MeloStat301 Don't shoot the messenger...he wants to play here, then he will...and it seems like soon.  Don't think ainge would give in to rondo demanding though...we will see.

@kneggyknik @MeloStat301 I think its about competing in the same city, its different.  On the court as well as off the court, not the same thing at all.

@purehussle You misread what I wrote.  I said he has a ways to go.  I'm saying his game reminds me of Hardens; obviously in a few years' time though.

Knicks_Fanatic

@kneggyknik

Houston has all their first round picks and the Clippers owe one for Doc Rivers. Not the same.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@xmenreturn @VerySilentJay @MeloStat301  Rondo can't shoot. Period.

He's a one man fast break, a great finisher aruond the basket in traffic, a great rebounder, underrated defender, and has an uncanny ability to find teammates in the best position to score.

Imo, the only thing that can limit Rondo is the offensive creativity of a coach.

In this case, Rondo would have to take matters in his own hands because Woodson has absolutely no creativity on offense (or defense...or anything for that matter).

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@knickster yup 2/3 of them got here...knicks FO jumped the gun and went after chandler, it was as good as done.  Remember??

MeloStat301

@xmenreturn @MeloStat301 There is more to it then that...it was said Melo was recruiting rondo to play for the knicks this year..and now this?  More to it then just he said she said...believe that.

xmenreturn

@MeloStat301 LOL Do you remember when Kobe supposedly told Isiah that he would love to play in NY for him?

Players and agents say the darnest things to help their bottom line.  I would be saying the same thing and not publicly dismissing any team to drive up my price.

Rondo seems like a quiet dude that does not want to come to NYC without the help just to be bombarded.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@rgm891 @VerySilentJay @tommy2b  I think this depends on Ainge's drafting plans. We all know who are the surefire picks in the upcoming draft, but what if Boston doesn't get into the top 3? Then it's time to move on.

If Rondo's traded, there are interesting PG prospects in this draft, that could very well develop into difference makers. Lillard was draftet where, at #7? Look how he turned out.

Does Ainge think a combination of Timmy/Shumpert is enough for their future?
