Amar’e Stoudemire credited a vegan diet in helping him return to form this season, but allowed himself a break in the recent weeks, though he was quick to rectify things, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post:
Stoudemire recently went off the vegan diet for over a week, but his play didn’t suffer. He didn’t take any chances, though, and he returned to veganism yesterday before scoring 19 points in the Knicks’ 106-96 loss to the Wizards in Washington.
“I just needed a break,’’ Stoudemire admitted.
Stoudemire said a mixture of asparagus, brussels sprouts and salads have worked wonders. Last night after the loss, he sat with a plate of spinach and broccoli as his teammates downed postgame pasta and sausage.
On a personal note, I dated a vegan once and on our first date I ordered the veal meatballs. Not regular meatballs, mind you, but a baby calf ground into balls of meat. I wanted to set the tone that I would not be making any dietary sacrifices in service of this union and if that was going to be a problem, we might as well get it out of the way. We didn’t last long.
It’s sort of amusing, I actually saw a few fellas express an opinion on this over Twitter, as though STAT’s diet is really any of our concern, although what is Twitter for if not to express opinions on things that are none of our concern?
But yeah, eat whatever you think is best my man, be it foie gras, a T-Bone steak, or a vegetable medley of dinosaur kale and ginger-spiced cous cous. Just don’t try to make me eat it, especially if it’s one of those deals where you try to turn your food into our food, “I swear, it tastes just like buffalo wings, just try it!”
Yeah, no, it doesn’t.
