As you can see, through their first four games, the Knicks have been pretty much the best at everything. It’s been a long time since the Knicks led the league in anything other than inappropriate relations with interns in sports utility vehicles.

Of course, we know not to get too carried away. This is a four-game sample of an 82-game race. We don’t yet know how good this Knicks team is, or even if it is good. We don’t know if what we’re watching are the inklings of a championship run, or the soon forgotten start of an also-ran. We can’t yet say for certain that this season won’t at some point dissolve into another humiliating mess.

And yet, we’ve been through over a decade of near complete Knicks futility. Prior to this season, people were openly suggesting we root for a different team. During this same span, the Knicks have either been bad, embarrassing or both, but never neither.

So if you’d like to print those stats out and put them under your pillow, I say go ahead. You can bathe in those numbers, brush your teeth with them, or just stroke them gently and tell them that they’re beautiful. Maybe gather the family around them and take a picture, or throw a party in their honor where everyone’s invited, whatever the hell you want.

Right now, you can make a compelling statistical case that the Knicks are the best, when the hell was the last time you could say that?
