Tommy DeeI know what you are thinking. Same old Knicks. Same old franchise that epitomizes losing and reason number one why they were the league’s laughingstock for the past decade plus.
Now I can’t lie. The Knicks, including the coach, have lost focus. Mike Woodson had as bad of a game last night as JR Smith. Sticking with JR last night at the expense of a hungry Iman Shumpert and Pablo Prigioni was absolutely falling asleep at the wheel. Downright inexcusable. Smith playing the whole game with his head in
the clouds was a bit startling, but hardly shocking. Smith clearly mailed in game 5 at the end of game 3.
The Knicks have to win one of their next two basketball games. The key to winning one of those games is staying loose and understanding that they need their focus to slay the green dragon. They need to break the Celts rhythm and knock the confidence off the combination of Jason Terry, Jeff Green and Brandon Bass. All three continuously hit HUGE momentum keeping shots that kept the Knicks from making a run to overcome three quarters of bad, sloppy basketball.
Carmelo Anthony’s jumper has disappeared. He needs to focus and find it. He knows that he needs Smith to be his wingman and when Smith is scoring his jumper will start falling too. He also has to position himself closer to the basket so he isn’t forced to take 4 or more dribbles to get to the basket. That’s a play calling adjustment.
The Knicks have relied on veteran leadership all season. They’ll need it today as they prepare to try again to try and beat the Celtics in yet another close out game opportunity.
