Tyson Chandler to start on Wednesday night

Tyson Chandler will make his return to the court on Wednesday night and will be in the starting lineup.

Andrea Bargnani will move to the bench.

Harris Decker

This is a very interesting move for Woodson although it makes a lot of sense. Bargnani coming off the bench allows Carmelo Anthony to stay at the 4 which he has excelled at. The one thing that concerns me about Chandler is if he’s being rushed. I pray that this isn’t the case, but under the circumstances I can’t say that it couldn’t happen. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that Chandler can contribute, stay healthy and most importantly, get the Knicks some wins.

Why put Barg on the bench??  Now we will have Melo banging with bigger players at the 4 with a questionable bad shoulder...not smart!!!

Barg, unlike Amare, space the floor well with his outside shot and has looked good playing with Melo.  Barg doesn't play in the post or take the ball to the hole regularly, so Chandler and him can easily co-exist on the floor.  Plus, he is a good 1 on 1 defender in the post.  We can even put Bargs on the post guy...this will allow Chandler to roam on D and play like a free safety.

A big line up is what we need to win in the east against the Pacers, Cavs, Bulls, Nets, etc.  Melo at the 4, is not how we will win in the playoffs.  We need to use the regular season to let Melo, Chandler and Barg learn to co-exist.

What's better long term a W or L tonight?

Everyone is trying to figure out what happened on the last play or so....but this team is lost all the time. What about the possession when Beno got fouled and hit 1 of 2? That was a joke too. No one is listening to Woodson. Woodson is a dead man walking. I am not watching the game tonight.

So on the final play after a timeout,  Beno was suppose to foul Beal... to get subbed out?

@BiggieSmalls

 I've heard of blind loyalty but u just sound silly now. if you can't admit the coach messed that game up everything you say is voided imo. I've been on this blog for like 5 years, you've always been pretty good but lately you've been bugging.

That was one of the worst coaching performances ever in crunch time. no debating

a win tonight and the bb geniuses here will be predicting a winning streak and the ecf will be within sight, and the beat goes on and on and on blah blah blah!!!

Tonight is a matchup of ex-Hawk coaches with depleted rosters. The Bucks are missing Sanders, Delfino, Butler, and Pachulia with Neal being questionable. Misery loves company.

With Hardaway playing well, and Amare probably being put on a leash again, best move is too start small. I always felt that eventually JR would start along Shump. Bargnani can be first guy off bench, probably for Shump, and slide to center when Tyson sits. Hardaway can come off bench next. Will be interesting to see what Murry brings. He should play with Melo and Bargs to ease off playmaking responsibility...

@Sandro GuedesIt has been talked about, and if you read further, he clearly states that the knicks have nothing Houston wants, so not sure what there it to talk about

@Sandro Guedes if he is unhappy being a back-up in Houston who's to say he is going to be happy as a back-up here

@Knicks_FanaticI'm shocked how quickly he's adjusting to the NBA. Kid just turned 19 on the 6th and making the transition from Div 2 ball in Greece. Now he might be a starter on an (albeit crappy and injured) NBA team. He could be special down the road.

@bigdishing Yes, you will watch the game lol. Tyson is back. I agree though. I've been saying for a while that I have no idea what we're trying to achieve on either end of the court. The last few plays of that game were just fitting.

@OLD_KNICK Bargnani followed 3-pt assassin Marcin Gortat all the way to the 3-pt line . . .  so much blame to go around on those last few possessions. Even if it comes at the expense of a few 3-second calls, somebody has to get through to Bargs that rim protection is a center's priority.

I can't believe the team looked so lost defensively out of a timeout, and didn't even discuss a plan if Washington scored.  What did they even discuss?

zdiddy4nyk

@Sandro Guedes@zdiddy4nyk Regular season for me is only to prepare for the playoffs.  If a line-up doesn't make us better for playoffs basketball...I don't need to see it.

It is all about Knicks playoffs basketball for me!!

@illmatix@Sandro Guedes ...IMO chandler has to be getting dealt for Asik to come .......15$ mil for a backup C (next year) is not gonna happen.

SheSaidSpikeWho

@BiggieSmalls @OLD_KNICK I hear you but he didn't have to be in there in the first place. Washington did call a timeout prior to that play. He could have been subbed there.

Also, he played Beno the whole game after Pablo went down...he should have taken timeouts to, at the very least, give Beno a rest/break. My high school coach used to do that when she decided I wasn't going to get a break for the night. She would tell me, "I took this timeout so you can sit down and catch a breather bc you're not coming out."

You're grasping at straws Biggie. Woodson wasn't screaming "foul him" when Beal had Beno on an island.

Woodson said they knew to foul. Shumpert said they were banking on getting a stop. Clearly there is a problem with communication. If this was D'antoni, you'd be ripping him apart. Instead you think the buck stops at Beno, who shouldn't have been in the game out of the Wiz time out to begin with.

Come on man, give it up. Woodson wet the bed, no two ways about it.

@BiggieSmalls@OLD_KNICK

If Woody had given Udrih a rest at some point in the 4th, maybe he could have fouled Beal. You play an old, out of shape PG that is gassed against a fast 20 year old, you are asking for trouble.

@Sandro Guedes@zdiddy4nyk We will be a playoff team...with Chandler, Bargs and Melo in the front court.  That will give us a better chance to win in the playoffs than that small line-up!!

In addition to their own 2014 choice, tracking to the late-teens or early-20s with the season about a quarter old, the Suns have Minnesota’s first-rounder, which is top-13 protected and Washington’s selection protected through 12. Phoenix also has the Indiana pick that is top-14 protected, meaning it will be conveyed this season barring unimaginable developments. Whatever selections are not delivered for June will roll over to 2015 – when the Suns already have their own No. 1 and could get another from the Lakers with the L.A. spot protected through the top five.

Hmmm... the Money evens out and you get a 1st rounder.  Sounds good to me.  But do the Rockets want Shump and MWP?

NYKnickerBocker
NYKnickerBocker

@Sandro Guedes@SheSaidSpikeWho@bigdishing

We almost blew a 25 point lead to them in the season opener with Chandler and taking out their starting point guard in the first quarter.  I wouldn't be surprised at anything right now.

@BiggieSmalls@NYKnickerBocker@Tikki@OLD_KNICK

Just saying, you asked what if the conversation was like this... and included that possibly Woodson instructed a timeout after the foul to sub.  That's backwards to me.  You start with a defensive lineup and Melo said they were not instructed to call a TO.

“I think we were banking on getting our stop,” Shumpert said. “We usually get stops.”

Huh?  I thought the plan was to take the foul and call another timeout.  Why is Shump talking about getting a "stop" on that play? I have also not heard what Udrih had to say regarding the final timeout.

@NYKnickerBocker @NYKnickerBocker Psychic?!? lol... coaches do it allll the time. The good ones that is... watch a Spurs game, go back and watch any Phil Jackson game.

You see the set, you call a timeout, regroup, make your adjustments, etc, then you may even draw up the next offensive play...

NYKnickerBocker

You would have to be a psychic.  Wizards took the ball out from their basket.

sir_manolo
sir_manolo

@BiggieSmalls @sir_manolo @NYKnickerBocker

EXACTLY!!!! and a great veteran coach, would call another timeout once they see the play developing, so they can regroup and be able to defend the imbounds play...ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE 3 TIMEOUTS LEFT!!!!

sir_manolo
sir_manolo

@BiggieSmalls @NYKnickerBocker that's 100% on Woody, he should have called a timeout before the imbounds even took place.

Pop, Phil, Sloan, etc. would have seen the play, called timeout and made the correct adjustments, whether it be sub out Udrich, put Shump on Beal, etc...this isnt Rucker Park where you just leave your team to play and fall flat on their face...

and Shump never sees the ball, he's always to busy trying to play lock down defense on a player that doesnt have the ball in his hand.

NYKnickerBocker
NYKnickerBocker

@BiggieSmalls@NYKnickerBocker@OLD_KNICK

He shouldn't have had Beno out there guarding the hot hand in the fourth quarter and after playing him all the way after Pablo went down.  But, he was quick to blame him.  IMO, the breakdown occurred as soon as I saw that lineup on the floor.

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@Knicks_Fanatic @BiggieSmalls I was going to say the same thing. Just because "everyone knew we had a foul to give" doesn't mean they were instructed to give the foul. Given our history, there is really no precedent on us fouling in that position anyway. How many times have we had a foul to give and rarely, if ever, use it? The only one that does is Pablo and I am almost 100% positive that it is not because Woodson instructed him to do so.

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@NYKnickerBocker @BiggieSmalls I agree with you Knickerbocker. Beal had like 14 points in the fourth. I would have put Shump on him. They would have definitely run the pick and roll to try to get him off though. Beal saw Beno and no help and took off like it was a layup line.

John Wall disappeared when we put Shump on him in the second half. I think he had two points.

Tikki
Tikki

@BiggieSmalls . . . that is exactly what @Knicks_Fanatic stated - that Woody only said "We knew we had a foul to give".

Has any player or coach explicitly stated that the players were instructed to take a foul?  (Beno was unavailable post-game) Why is Shump talking about getting a "stop"?

NYKnickerBocker
NYKnickerBocker

@BiggieSmalls@NYKnickerBocker

You don't just give the foul.  What if you foul in the act of shooting.  If you can give the foul, you give it.  But Beal had Beno beat easily and Beno risked him pulling up and having the foul called in the act.

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieSmalls

It looks like Udrih was forcing Beal to the baseline and expected help. You can see him motioning to Melo after the play. Woody says they knew they had a foul to give. He never says that he instructed the players to give the foul immediately and then use that to make a substitution. That's conjecture on your part.

NYKnickerBocker
NYKnickerBocker

@BiggieSmalls

You don't know what play they are setting up and at when and where that ball was getting to Beal.  He was the hot hand, you have Shump on Beal.
