Kyrie Irving with the JR smith Jersey step back...

I've compared the overall stats from last year to this and there are two areas, one on offense and one on defense, that show how our season has been turned upside down.

Last year we has an advantage in made 3 point field goals 891 to 629. Over a full season, we had a 9.5 point edge per game on the three ball attack. This year, our edge is 464 to 443, only a 1.2 advantage. So, we have lost 7.3 off our record setting 3 ball attack.

Take the fact that we scored 100 ppg last year and 97.3 this year and that accounts for the drop off in scoring.

On defense, it's the free throw totals that are significant. Last year the totals were 1313 to 1378 for a point difference of -65 or  -.8. Probably fair because we attempted so many threes. This year it is 766 to 1021. That is a -255 or -4.9. So our opponents are netting 4.1 points more per game on free throws. That how you go from 95.7 ppg allowed to 99.1.

Take the loss of 7.3 ppg game from the diminished three ball attack and add in the additional 4.1 free throws made and it creates a huge loss in efficiency -11.4 per game in those two areas. Last year we outscored the opposition by 4.3 per game and this year we are -1.8. That's a difference of 6.1 per game.

That's how you go from 32-20 to 20-32 in the course of one season.

 Al Iannazzone, Newsday: Just about every Knick other than [Carmelo] Anthony or Tim Hardaway Jr. could be had if Knicks officials find a deal they like. ”I don’t really know exactly what’s going on right now as far as trades,” Anthony said. “There’s not that many people out there that I think can come right now in February and change our whole season.”

Kill everything but the the All-Star game and put stakes on the line (like baseball) - winning conference gets home court advantage in the finals.

Sucks because the dunk contest used to be awesome, and the athleticism of this league is the draw vs other sports. Don't see any way to bring it back to what it was at this point, though

It's official, the dunk contest is dead. Wall"s dunk was nice but that's all I can say about it. The format was stupid.

I'll admit I didn't expect Wall to bring that dunk. He deserved that. I'd like an All-Star 3 on 3 game to 21 instead of the crap that Bosh's Team won.

Just curious what some Knick fans think - will Tim Hardaway Jr. make at least one All-Star game over his career?

(Remember, even Starks made one All-Star team)

@oldknick. If only we could trade the owner...

@OLDKNICK  "The guess here is that young guard Toure Murry could be making a similar impact if he was given regular minutes. It would also help if Mike Woodson didn't pull him every time he made a mistake. "

How about a wager. I bet Melo signs for the MAX. If he signs for less you win. "Without a doubt" in February. Lol. Those are Wolf Tickets.

@StraightShot  He could if he gets a little stronger, improves his handle, and becomes decent on D (his knack for falling on the floor is unacceptable lol).

Consistency is the key though.

@StraightShot  Not with his present game. Way too premature.

Right now he's a great shooter with a ton of potential.

To make an All-Star game you need a lot more than that. He needs to learn to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. For starters. A scorer has to be more than just an outside shot.

Once he understands how to work defenses that close out on him he'll be able to create a lot. He needs to improve his D, maybe get some upper body strength to play some minutes at the 3.

He's great in transition, but he still has a long way to go.

Rebounding, D, handle, etc.

The potential's very much there. He's a tremendous shooter and an outstanding athlete. If he puts in the work, who knows where he'll go.

A bit early to say. People called Shump a future allstar after his first few months here before they turned on him. The SG position in the NBA is weak nowadays so if he ever improves his ball handling there's a shot

Definitely.

@kneggyknik  Yup....it's all gone to hell.

I would leave the DL showcase. It's good to see the up and coming talent.

@kneggyknik

Agreed.  Put it out of its misery.  Only people protesting would be the All-Star weekend groupies loooking to "make that paper"

Thanks OLDKNICK. It's been puzzling how essentially the same team with the same coach could do a 180. This does explain the point differential and the difference between winning and losing. Many think that firing the coach and/or playing different players will solve the problem.

In my competitive world in music, I've seen organizations suffer like the Knicks. They forget what made them good and try to emulate others in attempt to improve. In our case, we sought to emulate Indiana and go BIG. We had to get past the bigger teams like the Bulls and Pacers. That is a sound strategy, but we threw out the baby with the bathwater. We no longer have the shooters to knock down the threes. We lost good defenders, who played well together.

Murry is overrated and just not that good of an NBA player! He doesn't dribble well enough to play point and he doesn't shoot well enough to play the 2! His defense is good but not great!

@tjhassan3 @OLDKNICK  This. Some fans quickly get upset and say he is garbage when he plays 2 minutes. The Kid doesn't play heart minutes and plays sparingly. Like some fans expect him to just come in a be good. If Murry was getting Felton's minutes I have no doubt he would be doing much better than Felton is.

We all say this on the Texas trip when he was getting consistent minutes. I wish Woody would play the Kid and stop giving Felton so many minutes.

@SheSaidSpikeWho @StraightShot

He looked like a damn fool trying to guard Waiters.  That was the sad thing - he was actually getting down into defensive stance and TRYING, unlike Waiters on the other end.

@VerySilentJay @StraightShot

Rip Hamilton made 3 all-star teams from just scoring off screens.

@verysilentjay there's plenty of just shooters and transition guys that made all star games

@brookdon Landry fields as well...was deemed "utouchable"  by some fans during the Melo trade...how silly does that look now??

@Chris @StraightShot  Against who? I've been a Rip fan since his days at Uconn and he definitely wasn't known for his defense. I could've looked good defensively on that Pistons squad he played with lol.

melo7

@verysilentjay I think thjr is decent at taking the ball to the rim and he's a little below average off the dribble shooting..but he's deadly from three and a savage on the break so I think in years to come he'll be an all star..that's not to say he doesn't need to work on dribbling. But the rebounding anything over 3 boards a game is cool with me

@rgm891 @OLDKNICK @kneggyknik  They won't be able to do that. What if someone gets hurt participating in something they don't want to do? It's unfortunate that it's become more "popular" to sit in the crowd with nerd glasses on watching the festivities then it to participate but there is no way to force a player into it. The players union would never allow it.
