Woodson: Felton Will Play Thursday in Miami and Coach ‘Supports’ Him

Adam Zagoria, Team Reporter

After being arraigned on weapons charges Tuesday evening in New York, Raymond Felton will man the point when the Knicks visit LeBron James and the Miami Heat Thursday.

“Yes, he will play,” Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Wednesday. “Practiced today and he will play. Yes.”

Woodson said the Felton situation was not a distraction to the team, which is 21-36 and 5 1/2 games back of the No. 8 spot in the East.

“I’m not calling it a distraction,” Woodson said. “We’ve been playing pretty good basketball and unfortunately we haven’t won games, but I like the way we’ve been playing and competing.”

Woodson added: “I don’t know much about what actually has happened. You guys probably know more than I do. The bottom line is Ray is a part of our team and as his coach I’m going to support him and make sure that he’s doing everything the right way from here on out and to try to get him to just concentrate on basketball and practice and playing games. That’s right now what’s more important at this point.”

Asked if he was disappointed by Felton’s actions, in which he reportedly threatened his soon-to-be-ex wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, with a pistol that shoots armor-piercing bullets, Woodson downplayed it.

“I don’t condone anything,” Woodson said. “I’m a coach that I want guys to be professional. I want guys to do things right on and off the court. I don’t know a whole lot about what’s actually happening with Raymond and the situation he’s going through.

“At the end of the day, he’s a part of the New York Knick family and I’m going to support him and try to get him back on track.”

Oh please, just bring in Gabe Kaplan from the movie FAST BREAK to coach this team! I can't watch this saga anymore! Last year seems like a distant dream....

Watch J.R. untie Felton's sneakers during the game.

That's just perfect: 2 clueless people illustrating once again why this season is turning out to be such a dud.

They have a love affair for a guy who will be at the end of every other teams PG depth chart.

With Isiah, Pringles and now Woody, we have seen coaches that look in totally in despair and say the darnest things.  Players know when their head coach is without answers, a plan and just going though the motion.

Dolan, Woody doesn't have the courage to go to you and say he has quit or is lost but he's letting his performance on the sidelines say it for him.  Please listen to this true yell for help.

@KnickelusKnickleby

We could some of what Novak brought to the team. Not only did he hit 45% of his three's, but he was well liked by his teammates.
