George Karl: Felton Can Have A 'Great Season'

Linsanity may be headed to Houston, but George Karl says not to worry.

The Denver Nuggets coach believes Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd are capable of big things should they be the Knicks only point guards.

“I think [Felton] is a great pickup,” Karl told Alahn Hahn of MSG during Tuesday’s Knicks-Nuggets summer league game in Las Vegas.

“I think he and Jason Kidd are very capable of having a great season.”

The Knicks on Monday announced the acquisition of Felton via a sign-and-trade with the Portland Trail Blazers in a deal reportedly for three years and approximately $10 million.

Felton averaged 17.1 points and 9.0 assists with the Knicks during the 2010-11 season and flourished with Amar’e Stoudemire in the pick-and-roll before being traded as part of the Carmelo Anthony blockbuster on Feb. 22, 2011.

“I actually liked Raymond the time we had him,” Karl said. “We would’ve preferred he tried to figure out a way to stay with us. He wanted his own team and I think where he really kind of lost his edge was probably in Portland.

“I thought he was great. He didn’t have a great playoff with us but I thought he played the right way. He’s easy to coach. He’s a great pick-and-roll player. He’s very clever in the pick-and-roll. And he’s a tough competitor.”
