Another Chance for Melo to Make His Mark

Via Mike Lupica

“There were other players that day, Patrick didn’t do it alone, even though we are supposed to believe now that the big guy only ever did big things alone. But he was the great Knick of his time, and this was his great moment. There he was when that Game 7 was over, towering above the moment, even on the aching knees that carried him through that game and all the others in the second half of his career.

Ewing was 31 that day. He had averaged more points in his career, but this was his best season in so many ways, 24 points a game and 11 rebounds. So he hit his number for points in Game 7, got twice the rebounds he normally got. And was one of the great Knicks of all time.

Carmelo Anthony has to be that kind of great Knick in Indianapolis Saturday night.”

Tommy Dee

Big moments define players in this town and bringing the series back to MSG would add to Melo’s growing legend. Melo was outstanding in Game 5 so he’s absolutely capable. And his coach now has him in the best situation to succeed. If they can stick to the plan that they implemented Thursday then expect the series to come back to MSG for an even bigger moment.

Game 7.

Ewing made his mark by delivering in many a big moment. It’s time for Melo to be at his best when his best is needed.

Edmonton resigned Scrivens for two years. They got him for a third round pick! Compared to the current crop of islander goaltenders Ben Scrivens is Billy Smith! I guess Snow was too busy trying to resign Vanek when the Scrivens deal went down, or could it be that Snow felt a third round pick was too much to give for Scrivens considering the wealth of talent we have in goal!

Lol the Tim and Sid fan590 show are totally ripping the Isles for being the worse run franchise in hockey!! With Buffalo a close second lol

Per Bleacher Report: Vanek says he might stay if team was in "top echelon"---"Winning does make a difference" Duh that why nobody comes here. No one cares about a winning culture in the Islanders organization!

Amac and Vanek for Dougie Hamilton.

i predict that on the flight to winnipeg vanek will see the light and decide to re-sign with the islanders.  after which garth finally will get all the credit he deserves.

the nino for cutterback trade is the trade people should really be mad about..  Only reson to be mad about the vanek trade is the #1 pick we gave up

I just read a couple of rumors that Detroit is very interested in Vanek. The players or prospects that i would have interest in would be Thomas Tatar, F- prospect Anthony Mantha and G- prospect Petr Mrazek. If Detroit refuses to part with any of those players i would hang up the phone. Also Philly is interested in Amac and Buffalo's Defenseman Christian Ehrhoft and might be willing to offer Sean Couturier in return. If Sean Couturier is available and Snow doesn't get involved he should have his head examined. I'd cut right in front of Buffalo and offer Hanonic for him if Philly won't take some sort of package including Amac. Philly is going to make a big mistake if they let Couturier go. This kid would flourish on the Islanders. Couturier has Van Reimsdyk written all over him. I see many similarities.

The Isles marketing plan must be to sell tickets to opposing fans who get to see their favorite team up close at affordable prices and go home happy in victory... which encourages repeat sales

This team has no credibility whatsoever as long as Snow and Capuano retain their jobs! Yesterday had to be the low point of what is already turning into a disaster of a season. After the game Capuano looked as complacent as ever! Send this clown back to the AHL where he would still be in over his head! Things are so so desperate that I would take Milbury back to replace Snow who has to be the most clueless GM in the history of professional sports. And wheres Wang while this franchise is disintergrating before our eyes! Wang please sell the team to someone who cares!

One of the worst games I have ever seen! FIRE CRAPPY AND THE OTHER 2 STOOGES! It looked like Crappy knows he over his head behind the bench.....WAKE UP AND CLEAN HOUSE!

Snowzo and Wangpuke aways seem to come up with new scams, last year was the tolling of tim thomas and this year was the moulson/vanek trade... what else is next

@Vicp73 But vic don't they understand that wang has lost a gazillion dollars on the Isles, and he was victimized by the local politicians, and he has a crappy building and no one wants to come here because of it and that the 15 year contract was a brilliant move and so was making his backup goalie GM, charlie is just misunderstood.

Chris R

@Vicp73  put wangpuke in a room with that tape blasting, tie him up and leave him there till he sells

shlo

@Matt That basically increases his trade value. It is no longer Minni or else. He may not be a rental to a "top echelon" team.

Vicp73
Vicp73

@Matt  It's a big factor of coarse, but I'll bet you if tomorrow Mike Ilitch buys the Islanders and brings  in Kenny Holland and his management team, players would be knocking down doors to play here. Nothing to do with arena conditions or winning or losing, it's players and agents knowing the guys heading this organization are clueless with no direction. Our only salvation in Charles selling. Plain and simple

@metzsuc  i would have held on to nino for a couple of years.  clutterbuck isn't worth passing on nn's upside.  if nn was still a pain and had to be moved, maybe you'd have traded him as 25goal scorer, and gotten a better return.  it would have taken some patience to deal with nn for a couple of seasons, but even he never panned out, you're only missing out on clutterbuck.

@mrcisback Are you saying Phi may be willing to give up Couturier because you heard that somewhere or it's just what you hope?  I don't see them wanting to give him up so easily since they just signed him to a 2 year extension prior to this season.  And if they would be willing to trade him, I would think they would want Ehroff before Hamonic. Also, not that I am a huge Hamonic fan, I think sending him over would be risky if it's done before they stabilize the D with at least one veteran.  I can see them banking on Reinhart and Pulock making an impact right away and having more problems early on.

But hey, I would send Amac for Courturier in a heartbeat. LOL

TheFourthPeriod.com is reporting that the Ducks also have interest in MacDonald and that the Ducks are willing to move 22-year-old defenseman Sami Vatanen.

Young forwards Devante Smith-Pelly, Kyle Palmieri and Rickard Rakell could also be made available.

@mrcisback The deadline is getting closer and closer mrc if snow keeps hanging up the phone Vanek will be on the team on Thursday and there is no way snow is getting the better of the deal with Detroit it's like men against mice in that match up.

@Vicp73 @Matt  Simple but true. I would ask why hasn't Snow been fired yet, but look how long Wang kept Milbury. The perpetual rebuild continues. It doesn't change until Wang sells it really is that simple. A real owner brings in real management talent, does not promote unqualified people to then take control of the franchise, it really is a joke. This is the first season I have not gone to a game since I was 7 (40 years ago), what a shame. Even worse for the future, my 15 year old who plays hockey has his bedroom painted white, orange and blue, with an Islander border and comforter no longer has interest in going.

@Vicp73 @Matt

Right Vic, If we as fans can see, well most of us , that this team is run without any competence, and oh so shabbily, I imagine the other, GMs, and players around the league can see it also, it wouldn't take a 2 by 4 over their heads to realize that the leadership of the Islanders are not quality people, with much brains, or perhaps have ulterior motives and do not care a lick about the fans or their own reputations, so what are they holding on to this franchise, must be the money.

Chris R
Chris R

@Vicp73 @Matt  i'll give an analogy..its like  working at Taco Bell(ISLANDERS) and management there gives no uniforms no expense vouchers and no free food and has a bad rep.. But other place Chipotle(OTHER TEAMS) does the complete opposite for the same pay...Tell me, where the hell you gonna work......

@gleichzahl @TonyMWinnipeg is closer to wherever he'll be traded to.

@Don22   Don i've been reading in every trade rumor probably over the last 12 months involving Philly that there willing to give up Couturier for the right package. His name always comes up and i don't know why.

mrcisback

@Lyle Odelein   Yea i read that last night. Sami Vatanen is a very talented defenseman but is also very small 5/10 at best. Emmerson Etem is the guy i would be very interested in.

@tag1 @mrcisback   Like i wrote in earlier comments hopefully Snow is a good poker player because if he's not he's going to take an incredible amount of heat from all of us on Wednesday. Especially form me and i thought i was pretty fair with Snow in the past.

@Ryan Sweeney @Chris R Yes the Thomas move last season was without a doubt a scam, they scammed  the salary cap floor, if you can't see that or admit that you're a lost cause.

We may as well make jokes, as another season comes crashing down, like so many before, due to the 3 hooples running this team.

@mrcisback

MrC, I totally agree about Hamonic, I don't see what others think they see in him, and I also have been following hockey for almost 50 years, we are a couple of oldtimers. huh?

wvAL
wvAL

Totally agree. I don't think Philly will part with him though. Key word in your post was ' rebuild'. After seven, eight years we should be much further along by now, yet the majority of the team belongs in the minors.

Goaltending is the biggest debacle and in my book totally unacceptable. As a former nhl goalie, our GM should at least have that position squared away.

shlo
shlo

@grand_puba Yes  I realized that , but was too lazy to correct. The prospect from Philly  should cover Amac ,you will get a pick for him at most. Hamonic, as good as he is for us, is damaged already with the concussion issue. I don't see him lasting long, his style of play screams I am getting hurt any second now.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@grand_puba @shlo @tag1 @mrcisback   Couturier has 2nd line center or wing written all over him. Heck i might even throw on one of the wings  on Tavares line. He's tremendous on the penalty kill too. I just don't know why his name keeps coming up in trade rumors with Philly. I predicted the same thing with Van Reimsdyk and look how good he's turned out. Philly has made some head scratching moves in the past.

mrcisback
mrcisback

@shlo @tag1 @mrcisback   I would do Travis Hamonic for Sean Couturier in a second even if we had to add. I've been watching hockey for close to 50 years now and Hamonic is just an average defenseman. Theres not one Islander defenseman i wouldn't trade with the exception of maybe Calvin Dehaan who i do think has talent. Islanders fans have to understand we have to rebuild the entire defense.

grand_puba
grand_puba

@shlo @tag1 @mrcisback  Couturier undoubtedly has a bright future, I'm curious exactly where he would pencil in. Hamonic and Amac may be a bit overvaluing him, though if like you suggest we could get something along with him in return, it has to be considered.

shlo
shlo

@tag1 @mrcisback  Phylli is crazy enough to make off the chart moves. I don't see them trading Couturier , but this is exactly why they may. Hamonic @amac for couturier is interesting, if this is what you meant. I would like to get a prospect from Phylli as well.

tag1

@mrcisback @tag1 You have been more than fair with both wang and snow mrc, but I don't think it's necessarily true that the closer he gets to the deadline the better deal he will get, but you are correct we will find out by Wednesday at 3pm.

@tag1 @Ryan Sweeney  tag i think he was asking me about the vane thing

Chris R
Chris R

@Ryan Sweeney  IMO very simple, cheapo wangpuke was not going to pay moulson so snow trades for a guy that he knows won't sign here, which he is not, right? am i wrong about that??????..You've been here since the wangpuke snowzo era right??? So this move shouldn't be hard to understand...MONEY SAVED!!!!!MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!  A f'ing blind man can se it.

tag1

@Ryan Sweeney I mentioned the Thomas move so why are you asking me about the vanek trade, if you want to debate if that was a scam do it with someone else. The Thomas trade did nothing to help the isles on the ice it was a scam to get to the cap floor where the owner didn't have to pay any money out of his pocket and I stand by what I said, and it has nothing to do with being a "internet tough guy", if anyone can't see that was a scam then their a lost cause because it was so obvious.

Ryan Sweeney

@tag1 @Ryan Sweeney @Chris R  just curious how vanek/moulson is a scam?  no reason to be hostile over the internet big guy
