Buzz: Melo outcome to influence Love market

While the Timberwolves initially planned to trade Kevin Love before the draft, they are now considering holding onto him until after Carmelo Anthony’s signing, sources told Sean Deveney (Sporting News, June 25).

This means Anthony’s free agency decision could directly affect Love’s future landing spot. Sources indicate that the two teams most frequently tossed around in the Melo conversation — Houston and Chicago — would both be interested in Love if they are unable to land the former Knick.

Other teams are still in on Love, and could put together a package to convince Minnesota to part with him earlier, but if they hold onto him past draft night, the results may likely come after Melo’s.

Love is going to the Bobcats/Hornets straight up for Bismack Biyombo. That'll give Big Al the space he needs in the paint. Wolves get a 7'7'' wingspan with great potential in return.

Can anyone give me a scenario where we keep Melo and get Love?  I know it's a long shot, but humor me...

Before Phil got here I felt like the Knicks tryna shoot for Love was stupid bcuz him and Melo are the same exact player aside from a few differences in stats but with Zen Master in the building.....its seems like a perfect idea

The Knicks, Heat, Nets, Rockets and Cavs are teams that James would consider playing for, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard.

Surprisingly, the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers did not make James’ list of preferred destinations, per Broussard’s story for ESPN Insider.

Not only would Phil Jackson have to find a taker for a player like Amar'e Stoudemire, but he’d also have to ship him to a team with the cap space to absorb the $24 million he’s owed in 2014-15.

On LeBron to the Knicks, Broussard writes:

“This is far-fetched because New York would have to work a miracle to clear the cap room to sign James. But if it's any consolation to Knicks fans, they're at least on James' radar.

Obviously, this would require Anthony re-signing with New York. The Knicks would then have to find a taker for Amar'e Stoudemire, or perhaps the combination of Tyson Chandler and Andrea Bargnani. They would also have to trade them to teams beneath the salary cap so they don't receive anything in return. Philadelphia could be a potential partner in a trade for Stoudemire, and Dallas would have interest in Chandler.

Makes sense.  If teams like the Bulls strikeout on Melo, Minny could ask for more for Love.

All indications are that Kevin Garnett is preparing to return for another season with the Brooklyn Nets, according to a league source.

Barring something unforeseen or a change of heart, Garnett has indicated he will begin preparing shortly for his 20th season.

LOL.

It will be interesting to see Phil's style to building a team if Melo doesn't re-sign.

Does he try to make every trade possible to turn each veteran into picks to build thru the draft OR does he keep trying to hit home runs in free agency year after year (Melo to Love to Rondo to Aldrige to Durant to........)

He's third in the pecking order after LBJ and Melo so this may drag out a while.

@Max Denby None. Unless you're willing to part ways with Timmy, Shump (which most certainly would have to be included) alongside Chandler, which Minny would never take because they already have a C and have gotten much better offers for Love.

That being said, pass. He's extremely overrated. If we're gonna go overboard, let's do it in the draft or let's try and make a move for a solid PG.

@knicks1  Opt-in I believe...slated to make a cool 12 mil.

Pierce is an UFA...but the nets can offer him more than anybody if they chose to.
