Final Score: Heat 106, Knicks 91

The Knicks lost to the Heat 106-91, snapping their 4 game winning streak.

The Least You Should Know

The Knicks were outclassed by the Heat tonight. They were beat up on both sides of the ball with the Heat completely smothering the Knicks on defense.

Lebron James finished with 30 points, leading the Heat while the Knicks were led by Carmelo Anthony’s 26.

Tim Hardaway Jr. was one of the few bright spots for the Knicks, hitting some big shots and firing the Knicks up repeatedly throughout the game. He finished with 17.

The Knicks trailed throughout the game, pulling it to within 2 in the 3rd before the Heat went on a few huge runs to put the game away in the 4th.

Harris Decker

This was a tough game to swallow for the Knicks because it points out their fatal flaw. They just aren’t that good of a basketball team. Having won 4 straight against mediocre teams, they were beaten in every aspect of the game by the Heat on Saturday night.

The worst part of this game is how close the Knicks got. They were hanging on for dear life at the end of the 3rd quarter and as the 4th quarter started you thought a miracle was possible. A huge offensive foul call against Tyson Chandler, which was questionable at best, tossed the momentum back to the Heat and it remained there.

J.R. Smith continued his hot play, scoring 20 points on 6 for 11. He and Tim Hardaway Jr. continue to play great as a tandem back-court. Hardaway Jr., scored 17 on 7 for 14, adding 3 3-pointers.

The defense was really the story of this game. The Heat played smothering defense, holding the Knicks down any time they needed a stop. That defensive intensity wasn’t matched by the Knicks. They gave up 106 points, letting Norris Cole eat them up in the 4th. Dwayne Wade showed why he’s a future Hall of Famer, hitting shots over and over and of course, Lebron James was dominant as always.

Once again, this is a tough loss for the Knicks. If they Knicks want to prove they are playoff team, they have to beat great teams at home. They didn’t and now find themselves 9 games below .500.

The Knicks face the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday at 8pm.

it's ridiculous to say that because we lost this game it shows.....

"They just aren’t that good of a basketball team. Having won 4 straight against mediocre teams, they were beaten in every aspect of the game by the Heat on Saturday night."

So, when we beat them in the last meeting what does that say?  Considering we beat them 4 out of the last 6 what does that say??

People always overreact to a knicks loss.   Bottom line is we match up well against the Heat for some reason.  Basketball is all about matchups.

It's very simple why the Knicks lose regularly...THEY HAVE BELOW SUBPAR POINT GUARD PLAY! It's not rocket science that whole game was a mismatch from the start...penetration and easy baskets coupled with defense are the key to winning the Knicks have none of this..I know I may sound like a pessimist, however I am a Knicks fan and I watch every game. It just kills me to watch them play the game the way they do..There brand of basketball is despicable pitiful unoriginal this is a miserable...

When your starting backcourt combines for 13pts, 8assts, and 5 turnovers, its going to be extremely difficult to beat the defending champs.

Ideally, the starting 5 should be Prigs, THjr, Shump, Melo, and Tice.

We're still just a perimeter team. Most of the time, Miiami doubled Melo or ran out hard to defend the 3.  That's how team should and will play us moving forward when they really care to win.  Unfortunately, STATues is our only player that wants to play down low at times.

I guess we better feast on the really weak teams so we need to pummel the Bucks Monday.  The away games coming up after that could bury us.

This game was a little frustrating, even though I expected them to lose tonight. Knicks weren't good defensively tonight, especially on the perimeter and one-on-one situations. Melo wasn't great tonight, but he's done just about everything this season so I'll give him a pass. Tonight just made it clear to me that the Knicks just don't have great players. That doesn't they won't win games and won't make the playoffs, they're not playing the Heat every game. But they really need more playmakers on both ends of the ball. They are weak at point guard, and don't defend well. The only bright spot was Tim Hardaway Jr, who is having a great stretch of games. I'm interested to see if the Knicks start to shop Shumpert because he seems like the odd man out now. But until this team gets a legit point guard, they won't be successful on a consistent basis.

I wish artest didn't try to do so much offensively when he's in other wise he woulda been solid for us tonight

Nice game strategy....

@HerringWSJ 1m Melo: "Would I have loved to [guard] him? Yeah. But [coach Woodson] gave it to JR." Said he doesn't feel the LeBron assignment fatigues him.

Felton had a grand total of ZERO (bleeping) assists in the second half. He is our STARTING POINT GUARD. How can you not have a single assist in a half of a game that was pretty close throughout? Not to mention playing about 12 minutes. That's pathetic.

They played hard tonight. The Heat were just better.you can't turn the ball over like they did tonight and win. Especially against Miami. Hardaway Jr. is a big bright spot. What a STEAL at the 24th pick!

i love the way hardaway is playing but he's probably the only way we improve the pg position

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I just don't feel like this is such a tough loss. I really wasn't expecting a win tonight even though the Knicks do often play the heat tough. Why are we all of a sudden surprised that the heat are a better team than the Knicks? Who went into the game thinking the Knicks were anywhere near they level?

Safe to say that Beno will never play another minute for the Knicks? He's not just in the dog house, he's in the dog's doghouse.

again this team can win a few and lose more then a few for 3 reasons, defense, coaching and Felton. we can look back at every game on this blog, its a broken record.

To me, tonight's loss is acceptable. Good teams lose games like this. It's getting crushed by sixers and the nyets and the bobcats that is really frustrating.

honestly have no clue why they signed Artest in the 1st place if you arent going to use him in a game like tonight

Artest's career has been defined by his defensive prowess, and for the majority of his time in the league Artest has been a shining example of what a complete defender really is.Artest has been an All-League defender a total of four times, and he was named the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year during the 2003-2004 season.Artest has also led the NBA in steals twice, finished second in that category on three other occassins, and managed to carry a 2.0 steals per game average throughout his career. What's more impressive about Artest's theft totals are the fact that many of them occur because of solid man defense as opposed to help defense.Artest is blessed with quick, strong hands, excellent footwork, and a fierce, aggressive style that is based on allowing as little room as possible for the opposition to operate.Artest's strength also allows him to defend larger players in the post, and he is exceptional at using his body to dictate an opponent's movement in the paint.

@Mel Brown  To be fair, the writer's on this blog aren't any good. They don't even back up their opinions with any research done to support it.

@xmenreturn

Yep, Woodson more or less is still running a tweaked D'antoni system on offense, and his own worthless system on defense!

@OLDKNICK  Isn't that what Lebron did?  Bolt Cle to win title.

@OLDKNICK Somehow I see Melo and win title unrealistic even if its somewhere else. But he did score 62 pts in one and here so that may be his greatest legacy here at least.  Like ARoid, I hope we don't over pay for that in many years to come.

Felton is a back up PG/SG. He just isn't athletic/skilled enough to create offense against top flight defensive teams.

Seth Nadler

felton sucks and Lin is better, but its time to move on from Lin,more importantly time for the knicks to move on from Felton

Are you making the asinine suggestion that the Knicks should look to "TRADE HARDAWAY" to fill the starting pg position? If you are you ARE the dumbest blogger here bar none!

@Kiyan Carter

And "AB", he is the missing link. Replace TC for AB and the Knicks win this one like they won the last one a few weeks ago!

Seth Nadler

i dont think you get the point, its not that the knicks lost, its the fact that we all realize this team is going nowhere with this current group and unless the defense, coaching and pg play improve the knicks are stuck goimg nowhere

@Seth Nadler  This is the post right here Dolan needs to see.  That's all that needs to be said.

@bigdishing  U accept Woodson being outcoached out hustled?  You accept Woodson not even consider playing other players since Fatboy did so bad?  U accept Iso JR Smith?  This game was pathetic on all levels.  Terrible all around.  No plan B for Woodson.

Josh Gabriel

@Jerry Gee  Woody is probably gone after this season. I'm also not opposed to trading Felton, but it's probably Shumpert and Tyson who have the highest trade value on this team. I would listen to offers for Shumpert, trade Felton if we can, and would save Chandler only for the right offer, like for a Rondo, Westbrook, etc.

Blame it on fat Felton

rkj473
rkj473

@kenmetskni  But when everyone on this blog who supports him to be the starting point guard says "the he is the only one that breaks down the defense." I'm sure that is quite possibly true, however, Felton is just meandering on the perimeter now, he's not even driving the lane or "breaking down" the defense which everyone clamors he does.

rkj473
rkj473

@Jerry Gee @rkj473  I don't think Murry is there yet to get big minutes, but give him like 5-10 minutes and go from there.

Felton is not "running" any offense. He dribbles the ball at the top of the key, using about 18-20 seconds of the shot clock then pass the ball to Melo or JR.

Anyone of the Point Guards can do/give what Felton his giving to the Knicks. He is not even breaking down the defense, which he is supposed to be good at.

kenmetskni

Yes. The Knicks played hard. They didn't play smart or soundly. But I think they did play hard.

Seth Nadler
Seth Nadler

you apparently dont understand how trades work, the knicks have three tradeable assests, shump, chandler, and hardaway. so if the knicks plan on upgrading the pg position before 2015 then 1 of those 3, or all 3 will need to be traded. if you dont understand that then you must be the dumbest person on this blog

@Seth Nadler  I am not saying he's the answer. But he was playing. Spat with Woody and he's done.

bigdishing

@rgm891 @bigdishing  I wanted Woodson fired months ago. I am just saying losing to the Heat after beating them a couple of weeks ago is sort of expected. Felton was bad tonight, but Murry would have been eaten alive by the heat.

HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@OLDKNICK Yeah but he's a man he ought to know better. I guess it's too much hot air in his dam head! why don't he become a Nets fan already. Or become a Miami Heat and LeFlop fan this way he could use his mouth slurping on LeFlops testicles everyday, I would almost rather hear that sound than to hear everyday the same diatribe about why Carmelo needs to be traded and Jr is this, and Felton is that, and A'mare and Artest, and AB. Enough already, this is our team and these are our players until they are not our players! He needs to give it a rest !

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@Jerry Gee THJ is really showing promise. He has a lot of confidence for a kid his age. Really turning into the steal of the draft. But you cannot rely on him to be the # 2 guy on this team with all the best teams having at least 2 superstars on their team. Knicks gonna need that guy. He will come eventually, if Melo ends up staying. When? Who? That remains to be seen.

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@Jerry Gee Rondo is really the perfect fit for the Knicks, but they really need that second superstar who can be the #2 scorer as well. Westbrook would certainly be that. But getting a guy like that with the assets we have is a long shot.

rkj473
rkj473

@Jerry Gee @kenmetskni  This. Felton DOES NOT need to be playing 30+ minutes a game. We have 4 point guards on the roster. It's not like Felton absolutely needs to be on the floor for that extended time.

kenmetskni
kenmetskni

He can break down weak defensive teams, normally off of the high pick and roll. Against quick aggressive defenses, who trap the pick and roll hard (like Miami did tonight.

kenmetskni
kenmetskni

Junior got his touches. Teams like the Heat play tough D. They aren't going to allow the hot player to get open looks. You need a balanced scoring attack. I think it was the turnovers that sank us.

Thanks. Melo had an off night and they kept it close till the last 5 min. I can't be too upset about it.
