Final Score: Knicks 107 – Cavaliers 97

The Knicks beat the Cavaliers 107-97.

Despite a cold, Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks to a solid victory with 26 points. He was horrible in the opening minutes, starting 0 for 6 before turning his night around later in the first half. It was a gritty performance.

Amare Stoudemire was brilliant, recording 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. He and Tyson Chandler played off each other on a few put backs and really asserted themselves on the boards.

The Knicks did a great job slowing down the supporting cast of the Cavs. Most importantly, they held Luol Deng to just 10 points on 3 of 12. Deng has hurt the Knicks and more importantly, Anthony in the past. Kyrie Irving did have 30 points in loss.

Tyson Chandler added his third double-double in a row with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Knicks play the 76ers on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

you can still play Jt and Strome on PP

Let Strome center the 2nd line, and let Brock play wing and get to the net like he did in the first quarter of the season when he was in fire..

dzruggie

@jmoney93 Really hard to move Brock off of center because a skilled 6'4" center is gold in this league.  Strome is a center so that leaves Nielsen the odd man out for me, unless we move Cassey CZ.

I know Frans is a favorite and is a really nice player but these guys are all 25 and under.  Maybe one more year of Frans -

@dzruggie @jmoney93

No way do I move Cizi.  He is a heart and soul type guy that is invaluable for what he gets paid and his level of skill for that $.  Also young and pretty controllable.

I have to say I don't mind Nelson on Stromes wing.  That kid line was gold when together.

Lets see what kind of contract Frans is willing to sign, he likes playing for us and I don't think it's below him to take a team friendly contract.  He is a very productive player when healthy.  I don't mind moving him if that's not the case.  BUT I like having the depth we have.  It was our biggest asset last yr.  IMO.

@jmoney93 Brock as a third line center isn't a waste. He gets second unit PP time, takes a regular shift with 15 plus minutes a night. List your 4 top wingers, excluding Brock.

What is the drop off excluding Nelson on that list vs the upside of having him as a top flight NHL #3 center

Your gonna need 4 centers, and strong down the middle is very important to success. If Frans resigns, why not shift him to wing to help as Brock gets more NHL ice time. It helps Brock develop, and takes physical  pressure off Frans..

@dzruggie @jmoney93 Out of the 4 centers not named JT, to me Frans is the odd man out - and that's not easy for me to say.  I agree with what you said about Nelson and his size and even though CZ is the least skilled, he fits his line/role perfectly.  Frans isn't going to slide into that spot so it seems if you want to put Strome back at his natural position it has to be Frans.  With that said, I don't think they move him and they keep Strome as a wing.

I'll go 24 goals. 42 assists. 66 points.

John Falcone

@dimaio34 Strome, if on JT's wing, could net 30 goals this year, and have 45 helpers; I think it's totally doable for him, given his talent, and now 3 years exp in the NHL

Really?!?! Guess this rules out the article where it says, strome wants to score LESS this season

primus
primus

Gotta love a smart@$$. Of course he wants to score more but how is he going to accomplish that? Maybe the point of the article was to give a glimpse of what he's been working on this off season and what we can expect. Like how when JT came into the league he needed to work on his skating, spent an entire off season focusing on it and made massive improvements.

love it...when stromes' shooting ability becomes as good as his passing ability he is going to be lethal...would like to see him play on first line with Lee and JT...the more he and JT skate together the better PP1 will be. We have great depth at center, and the PP needs work...Strome on 1st line makes sense. can't wait for the season to start.

willymayshays
willymayshays

Rather have Strome getting his whole line to score more.  He needs to be a Center, bottom line.  Will JT ever have a +23 season?  Strome needs his OWN line.  AND we need the 2nd line to be a real threat.

rmbbanned2
rmbbanned2

Putting Strome on the wing with Tavares would be a mistake. If Strome is capable of being a top notch second line center- then that is where you play him because moving him to wing is ignoring his ability. Wings are easy to find- centers are not.

JT makes both his wingers better. IF Strome has that ability at center, to make both his wingers better- then you keep him at center. Your improving the play of 4 players. This leads to deeper, balanced, more effective attack 5 on 5..

I have no issue with putting Strome with JT on the power play..

topshelf

@rmbbanned2 I have no problem with your theory with the exception of one thing. We don't have top notch scoring wings nor is Snow looking for one. So here is MY vision... Strome, JT, OK, 2nd line Nelson, Grabo, Lee. 3rd neilson between two of the following JB, Grabs, Kuliman and 4th CC, CC and MM.

That is how i would start the season, 1st line brings depth at scoring and VERY VERY hard to lock down, 2nd line size and puck possession with Grabo, 3rd all are defensively responsible w/scoring ability 4th line is the best in the league!  Just a though.  Now obviously if that didn't work then i would mix it up, my only request would be is to keep JB off the first line! He is a 3rd line player!!!

Also, i still have no faith in Capuano.

willymayshays
willymayshays

@topshelf @rmbbanned2

The kid line carried the team through their hot start.  We'd be crazy not to bring that back.  JB/JT/KO played well together too.  Hockey is all about chemistry.  Leave Grabo/Kule together with Grabner or Frans and don't touch the 4th line.  We tried every possible combo last yr and that's what worked best.

willymayshays
willymayshays

@topshelf @rmbbanned2

It's possible that Colle and Ho-Sang could bookend JT and take JB/KO's spot soon (next 1-2 yrs)  The sky could be the limit for that trio.  In the meantime, have to keep the kid line together, IMO

@topshelf When the team was fourth overall in  scoring- they were some pretty good wingers skating every night..

I dont care who puts the puck in net or what line they skate on. I care how often the puck goes into the opposition net..

@topshelf @rmbbanned2 I like these lines.  I still think that this team will improve this season.   I also believe that we will play more than 1 round in the playoffs.       GO ISLES!!!!

If Ryan Strome can ever build himself up to 200-210LBS of muscle, watch out. Now 6/01 in height is being very generous. I seen him up close at a pre skate and he didn't seem that big. I think we can pencil in Strome for 25 goals and 65-70 points this year.

puckdad99
puckdad99

@mrcisback

I was thinking the same thing. I was surprised when I read 6'1". I thought he was more like 5'11".

And I agree on the 65 - 70 too.

John Heiser
John Heiser

I'd Love for Him to do that too. No reason he can't. He has the skills ... if he gets a little stronger he may pot 5 or more goals on top of last season ... heck ... I see his ceiling at 25 - 30 if he plays with JT, because things will open up for him and everyone else ... and JT will benefit from it too ... win / win situation.

primus
primus

The sky truly is the limit for Strome. He could run his own line and probably put up a 60 point season or we can put him with JT and he could be in the top 10 in the league in points.

slapshot18_rs
slapshot18_rs

strome will be second in scoring on this team, but for once it won't be because he is a product of JT.  that will be a very dangerous duo if they decide to put strome on JT's wing.

"Ryan Stome won't improve because he's an islander and we have Snowjob and Capuano here. He's not even good and the Islanders will be in last place this season."

There, I saved you, guys the trouble of being, completely negative and saying this is a horrible team when we are still 3 months away

HUGE WIN............ said no one ever!!!!! It's about time we beat the Cavs..........I think Phil Jackson sent over a gallon of ZEN juice...... Should be running out shortly...... The team must know WoodRow is finally on his way out, so they are playing with a little enthusiasm..... I finally watched a game in HOOTERS, looks like I know where I'm watching the rest of the games this season ;) GO KNICKS

I see some of the dark haze getting ready to move along and our Knicks begin the quest to get it right.

Thank You STATues, your rmax money slot will surely be appreciated after next year.

Thank You Melo,  You did the best you know how so good luck with the Bulls or LA.

Thank You Woody, the first year was fools Gold but now take your money and enjoy your retirement.

Thank you Felton, you remind us what a PG should be and should not be.

Thank you JR, no way Phil appreciate your b-ball IQ so try to follow Melo again to the Bulls or LA

Thank You AB, Maybe Phil can make you useful in a scheme he wants here if not, Arrivederci!

Thank you Dolan, If you pull this off and let Phil have control, we may be able to forget all the other bad judgements.

Finally, Thank You Herb and Mills, You can now move to other positions in the organization like installing Cablevision Optimum.

Am I dreaming or is this the new reality for us!  If I'm dreaming, don't wake me up!

@smiggybalz Well, it's not like it's rocket Science.  Phil knows the game and has 11 rings to prove it.  All he has to do is get some good help on the salary cap issues and players available and etc,

Desperate?  You must not be a Knick Fan to say that.  Last Championship in the early 70s.  Desperate would have been appropriate a decade or 2 back.  We're on There's a 20 alarm fire going on dude.

@smiggybalz Riley was a newbie at Miami.  He's done pretty well.  Don't underestimate what having two hands full of rings can do for us when he's trying to convince top players to choose us as FAs.  He knows what a winner looks like.  I'll roll the dice with him.
