Final Score: Rockets 102, Knicks 100

Iman Shumpert and the Knicks continued their strong play, but they fell to Rockets 102-100 in a game that was never separated by 10 points.

The Least You Should Know

With 23.6 seconds left to play and the score tied, Tyson Chandler came up with an offensive rebound off a Beno Udrih miss. He dished it back out to Udrih, who passed to JR Smith WHO SHOT AND MISSED A THREE. Udrih fouled Aaron Brooks while trying to come up with the offensive rebound.

Iman Shumpert had another very strong performance. He scored 26 points on 6-of-6 shooting from deep, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Carmelo Anthony had 25 points and 8 rebounds. He was 10-of-23 from the field.

Tyson Chandler had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

JR Smith had 9 points on 3-of-13 shooting, including 1-of-8 from three point range.

First off, I apologize for writing this opinion part at around 7am. Work at the night job gets very hectic around the time games generally end, but it gives me time to cool off after watching the Knicks either get blown out or meltdown in the 4th quarter. It’s been 8 hours since the game ended, but I’m still heated.

What a treat! We get to watch the Knicks re-live the Andrea Bargnani shot! After JR Smith released that three pointer in crunch time, I screamed and threw a hat the TV.

Last time with Andrea Bargnani, my first reaction was that someone on the team should clock him in the face to give him a wake up call, but then I calmed down. This time with JR Smith, I haven’t. There is simply no excuse for a mental mistake like that even once in a season. This is twice.

JR Smith said after the game that he didn’t know what the score was. REALLY?!?! I’m not going to mince words. JR Smith has sucked this season. He had mental mistakes off the court that caused him to get suspended. Now, mental mistakes costing the Knicks wins on the court. Does Mike Woodson need more reason to bench him?

The little shred everyone can take out of this is that JR Smith owned up to his mistake:

I saw some tweets after the game that the Beno Udrih foul after the Aaron Brooks rebound was even more egregious, but I watched the replay numerous times. He was scrambling for a loose ball. I can’t fault him for that. And his potential game-tying shot at the buzzer went in and out. The basketball gods simply didn’t want things to go his way.

If you can find a way to ignore those last 30 seconds, the Knicks played a very good game. Iman Shumpert carried over his great performance against the Spurs. Tyson Chandler limited Dwight Howard to 15 points and 7 boards (a below average game by his standards). The Knicks limited their turnovers to eight while forcing 15 from the Rockets. These are the Knicks I’ve been waiting to see all season. A team that can at least hang around with the best in the league and make every game competitive down to the final buzzer.

Next Game: The Knicks close out their Texas road trip with a visit to Dallas “AnchorMavs” Mavericks on Sunday. Tip off is at 7:30pm.

JR " has sucked this season" but he's the Two-Time Defending TKB Player of the Week!  Amit have you discussed this with Sam?

Trade Shumpert(who is raising his value),JR Smith,Chandler ,Stat and Felton.Chandler and Shump can bring back the second scorer GG did not obtain.Melo would be more efficient with a second scorer.

Why is JR closing games?

What would a Griffin-for-Melo trade look like?  Would it be a straight up swap or would picks/other players be involved?

zebeto

I can live with a Melo-blake swap,,,but in the end it doesnt change anything , in that the KNICKS would need a major upgrade the PG position ,even more so than with melo.

...atleast the knicks are being competitive.......HOU was suppose to be a 30pt blowout for them .

JR said to media that he didn't know the score!!!! wow!

Tough loss. The good news is Shump staying hot. Murry looked good again.

newsflash no other team in the nba would have gave a  #1 pick for banrs, that general manager from tor must have been holding his laughter in when they making this deal.

woodson needs to be demoted as head coach back to assistant, bring someone else that is more innovative with offense and not loyal to floundering players. smith is  shooting 35 from the floor which is justified to get benched and dnp's. your not gonna win with players shooting this low from the floor.

JR shot, Udrih foul, Bargnani kicking it back out instead of the lay up.

So... who's Moe, who's Larry, who's Curly?

kenmetskni

Murry was the only guy to give Harden a hard time tonight. Harden was the ONLY guy on the Rockers who had anything going. You HAVE to let Murry play Harden in that circumstance. Udrich did some good things, but he is a liability on defense.

How does Chandler Parsons, SEC Player of the Year, fall to the 38th pick?

The JR shot wasn't as stupid as Bargnani's the other time. The game was tied and it was a wide open shot. Bargnani did it when we were ahead.

You know the sad thing about stupidity?

It never comes from the opposing team.

@Sandro Guedes Mills is not a GM, he is a yes guy. Dolan knows nada about hoops. We need a coach with power. We should have picksed up him or Augistine, and for that matter gone after Aldrich hard this past summer instead of Bargs. Did you watch the show when Amarie and Bargs are on the court at the same time. Bargs made Amarie look good on help def

You think Dantoni's offense might have something to do with those numbers Sandro? Or do you think Marshall would put up 20 and 15 on the Knicks too? Everyone he puts at PG puts up stats. Knicks need a PG, but don't turn Marshall into an all star. You see Lin glued to the bench the whole 4th qtr while Aaron Brooks played? Even you are smarter than this post.

@Jaime Another reason Wood is a bad coach

kenmetskni
kenmetskni

That's what he said. He thought we were down by 2 when he took the shot. OUT OF A TIME OUT, he didn't know the score. That is inexcusably bad coaching. JR also said that Tyson was telling him not to shoot, but the ball was already released. I wonder if him hearing his teammate tell him not to shoot affected his release on the shot.

Tonight, Griffin dropped 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists.

If the Knicks decide to trade Melo, Griffin is the best player someone will offer for him.

I would work a trade with the Clips, but I'm afraid that Paul's injury screws things up.

I make that trade in a heartbeat.

I wonder if the injury to CP3 tonight will change things.

@SheSaidSpikeWho It's been rumored for the past week that's one of Melo's possible destinations. I don't tihnk it's a stretch to think that, given the circumstances, there have been "phone calls" here and there.

That said, I don't take Griffin unless it comes with a bit more incentive. Say, Collison, for example.

@NYKnickerBocker barn is a chump and mr softie ice cream cone. if he would have shot it then it would have been a fadaway back rim. I would waive the bum.

@kenmetskni Which one resulted in a loss? That's the stupider one.

Chris
Chris

@Sandro Guedes @OLD_KNICK Yup, cause I don`t think he is leaving. He actually told the Nugs straight up, and would do the same with Knicks. He wants movement from FO on getting team better. Step 1 better coach with more autonomy

tw22

@Sandro Guedes@OLD_KNICKCap relief. Sign a Granger or Deng in 2014 then pick up Love and Rondo (or in trade) in 2015. Signing Melo to a 3-5 year deal is suicide without a better supporting cast. unless they can find a way to get Rondo by the end of the month, they should cut bait with Melo and figure a new way.

zebeto
zebeto

@OLD_KNICK@zebeto ..thats exactly my point .......collison (if he could be included in trade) would automatically be our best PG .

..

... imagine a Rondo / Blake duo in 2015 ...............wow !

madskills

Paul's injury may help the Knicks. Blake without CP3 passing him the ball may look like a different player. Which brings us to the next point, who would pass Blake the ball on the Knicks? Beno? Lol

ponzies86

@SandroGuedes Griffin has those night rarely. the guy isn't a good rebounder for his height and his defense is bad Also he cant work good without a decent PG

Chris
Chris

@C0P0 @NYKnickerBocker He was going away from basket when he got the ball, he did the right thing give it to the PG to reset. Problem is Beno is not a pg he is another undersized 2, he and Ray same type player

C0P0
C0P0

@NYKnickerBocker And The Rockets were in the penalty from like 9:00 on down the 4th. Beno actually made the last smart play that could of been attempted in the final seconds, a drive to the basket and look for contact. Though they'd give him that call. LOL

SEC players in the NBA. Just to name a few....A.Davis,Horford,Lee,Parsonns,Beverly,Knight,Wall,Beal, Big Baby,T.Harris,D.Jordan,T.Jones,D Lamb,J.Noah. Pretty good conference. Kentucky alone has 3 or 4 all stars in the league. Might not be a basketball conference, but it's loaded with talent. Probably more players out of Florida and Kentucky than Duke and Carolina.

kenmetskni
kenmetskni

It was stupid. I take back what I said. I just saw JR say that he thought they were down 2. OUT OF A TIME OUT, JR DIDNT KNOW THE GAME WAS TIED. That's on both JR and Woodaon

It was very stupid. No question.

zebeto

@madskills...if Timmyjr keeps progressing ,and knicks pick up a decent to good Center...I would go to war with a rondo/griffin tandum.

madskills

The west is tougher then the east so Rondo may be able to do it. They would definitely need more of a supporting cast though in order to get through the Heat and Pacers.

zebeto

@Sandro Guedes@zebeto.....knicks with Blake would be more athletic/uptempo most def...probably a more entertaining style of bascketball.

Chris
Chris

@Sandro Guedes @ponzies86 @SandroGuedes Melo, don`t trade him, trade others for contracts and picks he is staying, let it go. You been on his jock since he got here, first he never won anything, which we both know is BS and then he is selfish now we might lose him. Broken record Sandman
