Final Score: Wizards 102, Knicks 101

The Knicks (7-17) dropped their second game of the season to the the Wizards (10-13), 102-101.

The Least You Should Know:

The Knicks’ loss to the Wizards at home was the first in the past 11 games.

Pablo Prigioni suffered a hairline fracture of his right great toe. Surgery is not required, but he is expected to be out at least two weeks.

Off the bench, Tim Hardaway Jr. connected with his first four shots, totaling 11 points in the first half.

The Knicks outscored the Wiz 35-22 in the third quarter, but were outscored 27-24 in the final quarter.

After rallying for a 35-point quarter, the Knicks — behind some controversial coaching decisions — allowed the Wizards to fight back and steal a victory, 102-101.

Following the Knicks’ 35-point third quarter in which they took a two-point lead, both teams found themselves tied at 94 apiece with 2:47 remaining in the game. Thanks to a pair of  Andrea Bargnani made free throws, the Knicks took a 100-97 lead into the final minute of the game.

Bradley Beal’s 3-pointer knotted it up at 100-all before Beno Udrih knocked it one of two free-throw attempts. Following a Wizards timeout, Beal drove almost uncontested toward the rim, giving the Wiz a one-point edge. Then, after Mike Woodson failed to call a timeout with six ticks remaining, Carmelo Anthony missed a last-ditch 3-point attempt.

“That’s on me,” Woodson said after the game.

With the loss, the Knicks lost their second game to the Wizards of the season and drop to 7-17 on the year.

Like every other game this season, Anthony led the Knicks with 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting. J.R. Smith had 18 points and six assists, and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 14 points off the bench.

Following his 31-point effort in the first matchup of the year, John Wall had 20 points, eight assists and six boards. Martell Webster led the team with 30 points off the bench, and Beal, the Wizard’s hero, had 21 points and seven rebounds.

Next up for the Knicks is an away game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

I don't know how the coach doesn't get fired at this point. Should've happened a while ago. This team, while flawed, should not be 7-17. Woody is consistently outcoached by Knicks' opponents and is not getting the most out of his talent. The way they lost last night is just a metaphor for the entire season

Woody could have called timeout once melo passed halfcourt 4 seconds later and we still woulda had a chance. He just lost his mind for the whole 6 seconds.

Knicks outscored the Wizards by 21 points with PG Beno Udrih on the floor.  Beno did a great job tonight until 6.9 seconds left in the game.

Remember that game we called a timeout and didn't even get a shot off? Woodson probably wouldn't have drawn up anything better.

It really doesn't matter what this team does - they find A WAY to lose.  Wow - did I watch every second of this game only to see them lose by a point? With six ticks left on clock, Melo ambles up the court like its the 2nd Quarter and Woodsen doesn't call a time out? This one hurt because we should have won. There's like five losses this year that we would have won last year. But this team this year - they implode. Yikes!

Wizards 11-18 from 3 point land.  Knicks 11-30.

If you had a choice between keeping Woody the rest of the year or trading him to the Lakers to bring Mike Dantoni back what would you?  Keep in mind those are your only 2 choices.

The fact that I have to think about this question is very disturbing lol...

At best the knicks might end up with 44-46 wins

If the knicks don't make a good trade they will struggle for the 8th seed

i wanna talk to all those guys ,who during pre season ,not only would say that the knicks would win more games that they did last year, but the ones who claim that ESPN hates the knicks or Frank Isola hates the knicks or that any media guy who wouldnt put the knicks in the top ten ,werie called for just hating new york......have you ever thought that it might just be your lack of sight?

Lions need to fire there coach they should be dominating the NFC North this year especially with Rogers out and the Bears being so inconsistent

I even hate the way the Woodson keeps tapping his fingers on the table during post game interviews.

You know that feeling when everything about a person bugs you?  I'm done with Woody.

So Woody, if you have 5 timeouts but use 4.. How many timeouts do you have left?

@Sandro Guedes Very frustrating that virtually every team we're playing in this 'soft stretch' of the schedule is TRYING to lose and we've only gone 4-4

@skoonix What is it they say?  Bad teams find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...

@MarvelParker, Smart, Wiggins >> Knicks drafting position.

The Knicks couldn't even tank to get one of those guys because they don't believe in keeping their draft picks.

@smiggybalz nah bad luck with Tyson's injury.  55 win team once he gets back.... If they play at that pace the rest of the way they'll have 45-46 wins and the 4th seed along with an easy 1st round matchup all locked up.

@ponzies86Good luck with your wishful thinking.  Last I looked, Woodson still was the coach.

@ponzies86 Bring in Kendall Marshall for a work out. Dude isn't a great defender, nor a great shooter, but he can definitely distribute, something Murry can't do.

@miracle33d @skoonix Yep! Being a Knicks fan this year is like being in an abusive relationship. As the Knicks lose they grab & shake us "See what you made me do??"

Mr.Boots

@Dareel Ness@ds2488 And the Woodster doesn't yell, "Let's go, Let's go, Let's go." He's too busy yelling, "Iman,Iman Iman," constantly when Shump is in. If Shump seems unfocused out there, it may be because his "coach" is constantly yelling at him.

@tommy2b@smiggybalz

46-36 would require a 39-19 finish. That's a tall task ahead. 41-41 is 34-24, which is far more probable.

Our offense is nowhere near that of the last season 54 win team. Our defense could be middle of the pack with Chandler back.

tommy2b

I was going to say "and how many 1st round picks are the Lakers including?"

tommy2b
tommy2b

Take tonight for example.  on the game winning basket i guarantee you that Chandler would have offered some resistance at the basket instead of letting Gortat keep him away.

@Sandro Guedes You are cleaning house I would love to get rid of Amre and melo at the same time. I would assume lakers are adding 1-2 first round picks

Yeah I don't get it. They go over this stuff on Mickey Mouse clubhouse all the time. No excuses
