Melo is not going to Chicago because it does not make sense. And if he is going, we want Mirotic, McDermott, and draft picks, many of the them. NO other garbage from Chicago.. We have LEVERAGE!!!!! 69M leverage!!!! and Chicago have to gut their team!!!

From the Post:

If the Bulls amnesty Carlos Boozer and dump Mike Dunleavy and Jimmy Butler in trades, that would create enough room to offer a $17 million starting salary. In a max four-year deal with 4.5 percent raises, it would add up to $72.6 million — or $56.4 million less than the Knicks’ potential max offer.

You can never say never, but I just can't see him taking this. The big selling job is on and I think he'd be a fool to fall for it. They'll feel like they stole him for that salary. Houston and Dallas can get to the 4 year max, I think but the west should be an issue and it's still less money than the Knicks can pay. I know the media likes to say Chicago is the biggest threat but I say it's Houston because they can sell him on Harden, Dwight and Parsons.

At the end of the day I still think his agents are using this interest to get Phil to the max.

Very quiet in Knick land in terms of FAs we've expressed interest in.  So far I've only heard about McRoberts and Booker.  Anyone heard anything else?

By Phil not taking back Boozer, he is forcing Chicago to gut the team to get Melo. It's going to take at least $19 per for Melo to dance with Chicago and God forbid Melo wants the max he can get.

Chicago has $65.2 on the books after that draft night trade with added $1.8m. Either scenario will force the Bulls to have to relinquish rights to their FA's to remove the cap holds. They would also have to force Mirotic to stay overseas.

For $19m a year

Boozer will have to be amnestied which gets them to $48.4

Trade Butler and Dunleavy saves $5

For anything above $20m

Boozer will have to be amnestied and Taj has to go along with Dunleavy/Butler.

Either way, they will have absolutely no team after they do the deal. Zen master strikes.

Looks like Melo the "ball hog" that "doesn't make teams better" is the #1 most wanted man in the NBA, while a few on here the other day said he was an after thought, once LBJ opted out..... STUNG

If only Melo could still guard 3's...

I'd be more committed to completely wanting him back in NY.

Bulls fans are very confident that despite the money aspect that Melo is heading to the Bulls. I think it's possible, the part that pisses me off is how the bulls fans use the Melo wants to win now and the Knicks are years away. I just don't think Phil let's Melo walk, I'm still a believer that he will pull something off this off season to put a solid team on the floor this season.

Correction: Rose wasn't at dinner. When source said "Rose left" I thought they meant he left dinner early. But he left group earlier in day.

Josh McRoberts drawn interest from Charlotte, Dallas, Clev, Miami, Clippers, Knicks, Portland, Phoenix, Spurs and Lakers, source told ESPN.

That's a long list of suitors, lol...reporter didn't exactly narrow it down for us but. Like McRoberts'  energy and passing ability as a big.

I wonder if Melo asked to take one of those big "Melo in a Bulls uniform" banners home with him as a momento of his tasting free agency.

I hope he did.  And I hope they show it on one of the Knicks pre-game shows next year when they're talking about how Anthony matches up against Jimmy Butler or Taj Gibson or whoever the Bulls throw out there to try to stop him.

In that RT: Rose w/ small workout to show Melo he's healthy Note: if player needs to workout in front of u to prove health, that's a problem

@franktkb Melo's not going to risk having a team give up the farm for him again and being blamed and crucified if they lose. Why would he? He gets that here already. But at least here he has a new Prez and a new coach to share the blame now.

@johneco Maybe a trade? Phil doesn`t leak that stuff

franktkb
franktkb

That's the smart move. Notice how this leaked out the day of the Chicago visit. Houston and Dallas will likely have the max dollars per year ready so they won't need a sing and trade. But it's still less total money and it's the west. So Phil ultimately has to sell him on NY, more money, cap space and his rings. I like our chances.

@theking  C'mon he's a much better ball player than D. Lee!  Better rebounder.  Better scorer.  Better everything.

It's funny, on this site there's seemingly no middle ground with Love.  Those who like him act like he's second only to LeBron for all NBA.  Those who dislike him act like he's Keith Van Horn.

He's an excellent ball player who hasn't made the playoffs yet in large part because he's played on a small market team in the western conference.  The T'Wolves this season might have been a top 5 seed this season if they played in the east.

He's not as good as Melo now (it's nuts to argue otherwise), but he's also almost 4.5 years younger. There are a ton of positives with Love, and if you put him in the right situation he could be a force for years to come.

theking
theking

Lol can't make this ish up.

He is younger cheaters better and has more potential yet all that talent he still couldn't be at least an 8th seed

theking
theking

Lol some put love ahead of melo so it's lebron love then melo.

Wonder why there are no rumors of love goin to this or that team? because the teams are after melo and lebron ... Love is an after thought like parsons lol

U gotta put @daGawd @therealeric @smigglybalz and @jerrygee on that list all are massive trolls

What three gave him the buisness this year? Last year? Year before that? Sounds foolish to think he can't guard threes

@dylan Plainly obvious that Rose wants no part of the man.  I mean, what could he possibly be doing so important that he couldn't sit down and eat with the man.

Is Phil dumb too now? Lol

brookdon

Exactly. Phil actually is a GM with sense unlike those who would get on their knees for a deal that doesn't have to be made.

chudogz1

@Marvel. Apparently Phil has more brains than a few on here... Boozer sucks... Like most other Duke players that make it to the NBA...

dylan
dylan

@Marvel This is a smart move. Phil Jackson knows Melo can't get anywhere close to a max contract, unless they trade away Gibson. Thats a huge risk to take unless they are 100% sure Melo is signing with them, and it weakens them significantly. The Knicks have a lot of leverage with the ability to offer him significantly more money. If Melo leaves it means playing for a team with an extremely injury prone star just like Amar'e, or joining a team in the Western Conference. There is no chance he is joining Cleveland, he would have stayed in Denver if he wanted a small market. Melo doesn't really have a great chance of winning a championship anywhere he goes this season. The Knicks can offer him a huge market which he clearly prefers, a ton of cap space next year, the ability to build his own supporting caste AND by far the most money. Its a huge risk for him to leave.

brookdon
brookdon

Isaiah Thomas is salivating. With the Livingston and Lowry deals, that puts his market at a healthy $8-12 mill per year.

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@Tony Fonseca I'm convinced he's staying. Every other choice is much too risky. So everyone who doesn't like Melo -- don't be mad. Scratch your butts and get glad. LOL!

@Sandro Guedes @franktkb  You really have an eye for talent if you think Butler is a stud.. We have better Butlers in SHMP, THJR, EARLY, JR... I know all Knicks players are bad in your eyes and ALL the players on others teams are STUDS... As they say, perception becomes reality if you believe in it..

Taj was in the meeting yesterday so he is part of the pitch. They could still deal him but at this point he is part of the plan they sold to Melo.
