I wonder where the Melonuthuggers stand on this issue. Do they side with only to man to ever bring legitimate championship credibility to this team in Phil? Or do they side with Melo, who they believe should seek every dime THEY seem to think he deserves even though its HIS turn to sign a contract?

Biggie?

Kiyan?

JimmyBX?

Please answer clearly so we can mark these answers down for the long term.

In the New York Post today it was reported that many of the players and Jackson agreed that the team under performed this year.  My guess is that Jackson believes that if he can convince Melo to take a cut which would allow for an upgrade at the point the team would do very well.   I agree.  Too many players were not properly used this year.  No system on offense or defense.

So what most of you guys are saying is you won't mind keeping Melo but at a discount around $65-80Mill. The reason for this is bc it would handicap the Knicks from signing other great players and bc his age.

My question is who would you sign for a max deal? Superstars are not taking $10-15mill less unless they're at the end their career like Duncan. Also would you sign any player for a max deal bc the with the new cap giving anybody a max will make it much more difficult bringing in other stars.

Grieves Vasquez? He's big, probably wants out of Toronto.

@darealeric. Pat "the rat" Riley brought us legitimate championship credibility also.... It's our owner that blew that one, time will tell if he learned his lesson... Go Knicks

@illmatix  it is a breath of fresh air. He engages the press and is not afraid to speak his mind He has not communicated a plan yet but I am sure he has a plan.

@lobcity I don't think for a second Phil thinks he's signing Melo for $65 million.

@BiggieTKB Agreed 100% about Isola. I don't know how he's not embarrassed by himself and his behavior. It's sad and pathetic. All the back pages of yesterday's papers had NBA playoff, NHL, MLB related content. What did the Daily News have? Another expose featuring more unnamed sources and absolute conjecture - all from the mind of the great fiction writer, Frank Isola.

@darealeric. I prefer Eric Bledsoe, if possible.....

To some extent...Phil is on another level though...

Dan.

I agreed. What I'm curious to know is what superstar will come here and take $10-15 Mill less? and with new cap in place is it worth giving players max deals?

@illmatix @BiggieTKB This is negotiating 101.

He has to present as if a sign and trade is out of the question.  That he would rather lose Melo for nothing than sign and trade him.  That discourages some suitors who otherwise cannot put together an enticing offer, and increases his bargaining power with Melo.  If his bluff is called, and some suitor appears with enough cap room to sign Melo outright, and Melo seems like he might actually go there, suddenly you'll see him warm to sign and trade scenarios in a hurry.

@illmatix Phil Jackson "never coached in the NBA without at least two future hall of fame players/All-NBA players. You think he want to start his tenure with the Knicks letting Carmelo walk, the Knicks missing the playoffs again, and then there being no guarantee  of the Knicks bringing in star players in 2015 "without the lure of Carmelo Anthony? Do you think Dolan will stand for that? I tell you what, i'll believe it when I see it!

Phil doesn't need a Derek Rose to run his triangle

@Sandro Guedes @kingofny

The Bulls decided to let Deng walk away and got Bynum to save them some cash. If they had Deng, they would be in much better shape against the Wizards, but financial decisions trumped competitive goals.Getting swept will not affect their decision making process.

@Sandro Guedes @kingofny  If the Bulls were smart they'd be offering us Rose in a sign and trade to get out of his contract. As crazy as it may sound, if I'm Phil i'd say no. Rose may come back and be a force but at this point he's a major health concern.

@lobcity  I don't think another superstar has to take $10-15 mil less to come here. First, there's no superstar available in 2014, so it would be about 2015. If Melo takes a bit less, and the STAT/Chandler $ comes off the books after next season, there's enough there to sign someone like Kevin Love or Rajon Rondo fairly and generously.

Phil Jackson is not getting paid $60 million dollars to make the Knicks only contenders in 2-3 years!
