Mark Jackson has been fired as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors (Wojnarowski, May 6).
Jackson, who obviously has close ties to the Knicks, could be a coaching candidate for New York.
This also opens up a vacant head coaching position for Steve Kerr, whose family lives in California. Stan Van Gundy is also an option for the Warriors, according to the report.
The Warriors will likely reach out to Kerr soon, Wojnarowski wrote.
Kerr is expected to make a decision on the Knicks job by Thursday or Friday (TKB, May 5).
Jackson had one year left on his contract and led the team to a 121-109 record over three seasons, including two trips to the playoffs.
