Mark Jackson

Golden State fired Mark Jackson

Mark Jackson has been fired as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors (Wojnarowski, May 6).

Jackson, who obviously has close ties to the Knicks, could be a coaching candidate for New York.

This also opens up a vacant head coaching position for Steve Kerr, whose family lives in California. Stan Van Gundy is also an option for the Warriors, according to the report.

The Warriors will likely reach out to Kerr soon, Wojnarowski wrote.

Kerr is expected to make a decision on the Knicks job by Thursday or Friday (TKB, May 5).

Jackson had one year left on his contract and led the team to a 121-109 record over three seasons, including two trips to the playoffs.

Kerr makes more sense for the Knicks than Jackson, Harris Decker wrote after Mike Woodson was fired >> Read it here…

While I'm not convinced Steve Kerr is the answer, Mark Jackson certainly is not.  How some of you think he's the right choice is beyond me...

Let's see... his reputation is that he didn't prepare for games, didn't like to practice, and didn't get along with management.

Oh yea... let's bring him in.  He sounds great.

The Warriors owners would not have fired Jackson unless they had his replacement lined up.  They probably have a few names. each of which they thin is better than MJ .. Im thinking Stan VanG, Lionel Hollins  .. Kerr doesnt really fit that group unless it's all about Kerr's relationship with GS owners and President.. And their clearly better roster LOL>.

Mark Jackson is a great motivational Coach but his Basketball instincts and schemes aren't great he had a squad in Golden State and couldn't take them to the promise land

he just would let Curry go ISO so that means he would be what everyone says on here...Woodson 2.0

So now I'm hearing Jerry Stackhouse, lol. I love it bc it shows how little ppl know what Phils plans are. I'm just laying back and letting Phil do his thing with no worries. Ohhh and BTW, will jerry become a hot asset now bc Phil wants him? He probably will.

Carmelo Anthony finished 15th in MVP balloting, getting one 4th and one 5th place vote. Haven't checked to see if it's Kerr.

Lol.

According to the Wall Street Journal’s Knicks writer Chris Herring, there is the belief that Jackson is interested in hiring Jerry Stackhouse as the two sides are set to meet at some point this week.

Stackhouse, who played in the 90s when Jackson was reaching his coaching peak, has never been associated with the Knicks but could be stepping into a position as one of Steve Kerr’s assistant coaches. There’s the belief that Bill Cartwright will be hired to be Kerr’s right hand man and adding Stackhouse to the mix should round out the bench for the Knicks.

Don't be shocked if Jerry Stackhouse is option two. VERY VERY smart player, can be molded which Phil likes, and has a personality.

Kerr is not stupid. Now that multiple teams want him , he is using them as leverage to get a bigger paycheck. We all know Dolan likes to spend his dollars. That's all what Kerr is doing so let's not get crazy here.

Hey Biggie, are you downgrading Kerr by 20% to get the job here and and upping him by at least 20% to get the  GSW job?

I'm sorry but the World knows Kerr needs PHil.

Here is what no one is talking about with the Warriors job. It may seem like a better job than the Knicks on the surface but if you look closer, which I'm sure Kerr will, the Knicks job is more attractive to Kerr.

Currently, the Warriors have a better roster than the Knicks. But they do have a bunch of bad contracts extending into 2015-16, where the Knicks have a ton of cap.  The Warriors owe 40+ million to David Lee, Andrew Bogut, and Andre Igoudala in 15-16. While Lee comes off the books in after that season, Bogut and Iggy are still on the books for 2016-17.  Kerr isn't coaching for one year. He is gonna be coaching a team for multiple years. He can stick it out with the Knicks for one year and then have a major say with Phil on who comes here, or he can take the Warriors job and possibly suffer with bad contracts in the future.

Also, Phil would have a major influence in shaping him as a coach in the future when he is no longer coaching for Phil and the Knicks.  He will have the ability to learn from his mentor and will make him better in the future. That is something the Warriors can't offer. Also, Dolan will throw a decent amount of money at Kerr as well.

I truly wanted Mark Jackson to get a chance with our Knicks in the past.  But after watching Mark let the X and Os to others on his staff while he seem to focus on the cheerleading type duties, I don't think he's best foe our team now.

Maybe some of you missed it, but it was guys like Pete Myers who was on the sidelines with the team during timeouts drawing up plays while MJ stood by.  Not good!

Big mistake by the Worriors. I prefer Jackson over Kerr.

If Phil Jackson is confident Kerr will be our coach, I am inclined to believe him.

i still think we end up with Kerr/

Mark Jackson probably goes to Indiana and Stan VanGundy to GState..

@KnickelusKnickleby. Everyone seems to forget that he was down his starting center, Bogut, and Jermaine O'Neal got hurt in game 6 on a dirty play. So Coach Jackson was down to his 3rd string center, Maurice Speights...... Not sure how that gets you to the promise land...? That being said, Steve Kerr is a better fit for our team, unless Jackson wants an assistant job...

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@KnickelusKnickleby  so why cant phil give Mark Jax a triangle 101 and then stick around for the first few practices... then Jax just concentrates on defense and motivational speeches... Cartwright.. and Clemons focus on the offense..

Dalembert must really suck if Tyson is an upgrade.

@lobcity Yeah but it is Phill that wants Kerr not Dolan!  Dolan still wants Herb to be on the sidelines to snoop.   I think this is all for us and Phil to help make it seems like Kerr is in demand so when he chooses Kerr and Kerr has some growing pains early on, it wont look so bad he went with him.

@Josh Gabriel  Great point man.  They will work as a team together in shaping the roster and handle any obstacles together along the way.  Kerr will be a great asset along Phil once the summer of 2015 free agency hits.  They will be on the same page in terms of what players to target.   His coaching style would work perfectly and Kerr would be much more comfortable handling NY and the grind of being an NBA coach.

xmenreturn

@Josh Gabriel Yep Warriors are not getting out the west with their weak inside guys!  They are a perimeter team exclusively. Kerr goes there and he gets no years to get up to speed!  Some think that team should be contending now and they will not.

@illmatix  Who are his other people?  Kurt Rambis?  Byron Scott? Derek Fisher?

Mark is not that type of coach. He is stubborn and has his own philosophy. Phil doesn't want a coach that coaches like every other coach.

@rgm891 It's also worth mentioning that Kerr could help Phil on the GM side of things, since Kerr has experience with that. It seems like too perfect a marriage for Kerr to pass up.

@thatsagoodpoint @BiggieTKB  i hope like hell that Kerr is as advertised cause Indy is going to be a tough team with Mark Jackson as coach...  Hibbert wont be sulking around like someone stole his pony;

Biggie.

You really dont think Mark is not feeling himself right now? These Millionaires are full of themselves and coky. I think its foolish to think they're not. SAS already mentioned he has issues with GSW Management and is not a guy who will roll over.

My point is Mark Jax has a total different mindset than Phil and it will be difficult to change his coaching ways as oppose to SK who lives and die by what Phil taught him.

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@lobcity  hold on.. PHIL jackson has created TWO dynasties and Mark Jackson thinks HE knows how to create one and wont listen to PHIL?

Mark Jackson's success is GSW is going to his head?  THen i can image what 11 rings has done to phils head.//

ok.. im done.

lobcity1
lobcity1

Biggie.

But it will be much difficult to implement your ideas on someone like Mark who already has experience with coaching. Mark may have a different idea of what it takes to become a dynasty.

Its difficult to change Mark Jax way of thinking after he coached GSW and had some success. Kerr and Phil are already on the same page. Phil most likely mentor Kerr his entire career and lives by what Phil taught him. Kerr stands by everything Phil believes and I'm pretty sure Mark Jax doesnt.

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@lobcity  im not sure Mark Jackson is a "philosophy" head coach.  He's not married to a splash brothers approach. he's been a coach for three years.

xmenreturn
xmenreturn

@Josh Gabriel @rgm891If Kerr bails on Lord of the Rings for GSW, he's done as a coach before he even begins! If you can't get that right then how can you be expected to get the other stuff correct!

Kerr is here in NYC if Lord of the Rings wants him here.

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@rgm891 The only way I don't see Kerr to the Knicks happening is if someone in his family isn't on board with him coaching across the country in NYC and he takes the GS job to stay closer to home. That's really the only thing the Warriors have going for them, and a good short-term roster.

@BiggieTKB @xmenreturnWHAT?I Said WHAT?  You asked me point blank on TKB who I would have as coach if not D'Antoni because you thought there were no one better to run the team at that time.

Now you want MJ over Scott!  YIKES!  We have a Broken Helmet Folks!
