Kerr is ‘weighing all his options’

Steve Kerr is “weighing all of his options,” according to his agent Mike Tannenbaum (Begley, May 13).

Tannenbaum said that Kerr “thinks the world of” Knicks President Phil Jackson.

Kerr is expected to have a decision in the next few days.

Harris Decker

Enough is enough. The posturing is getting annoying. I expect Steve Kerr to be the next Knicks head coach but I’m very frustrated at the moment. I knew it wouldn’t be a quick hire but I also did not expect things to take as long as they have. When Mike Woodson was fired we learned that President Phil Jackson, similar to coach Phil Jackson, makes decisions in a calm, cool and methodical fashion. He doesn’t rush to conclusions and he certainly won’t be hasty to hire a coach.

All of that aside, the fans are dying here. We’re watching great playoff basketball under the umbrella of having no idea who will be the coach next year. Steve Kerr needs to make a decision or Phil Jackson needs to light a fire under him.

    How much do they weigh?

Let him take the Warriors job. Half the team wants out because the ownership fired THEIR coach.

Warriors will hold out hope they still have a shot at Steve Kerr as long as Knicks deal goes unsigned. But odds still favor NYK landing Kerr

I would label Woj, and Stein the two best NBA sources right now.

Take your time Knicks. In the past Knicks will rush their decisions. Knicks fans need to stop being so thirst!

NBA source: Stan Van Gundy told the Warriors he wanted total control of basketball decisions. They declined. He could get that in DET.

He makes Kerr look more reasonable. Kerr just wants Dolan dollars.

What I want to know is who is the 2nd in line coach if kerr does not come to NYC ???

I am sure the warriors are gonna go at him if van gumby goes to detroit.

From Woj:

"As Knicks-Steve Kerr lock in staredown over deal terms, Golden State will go hard at Kerr again if Van Gundy takes Detroit, sources say."

Maybe this will kick start the Knicks to give Kerr what he wants.

Like I said, keep praying for Kerr, because the alternatives can be disastrous.

Not getting this post. We should be happy that Jax makes his decisions "in a calm and methodical fashion". Frankly who cares if fans are dying because of a few days. I am dying because of years of ineptitude, rushed and stupid decisions, never building team chemistry, never establishing a working system, never asking for accountability, on ans on. I can wait a couple of extra days if that means we are at the beginning of a new era.

who cares? It looks like it's a done deal and if it isn't so what?  I think the blog-leaders hear can't think of anything else to talk about so it's a posting every other day when Kerr scratches his bawls.

I'm interested in how the knicks are going to get a pick and present some semblance of a team that's fun to watch next season..and before 2015.

its so obvious that they are going to announce KERR as coach Thursday morning ,,,the morning after the NETs exit the PO after game 5 (wed 8pm).............knicks run this city and will always take any sort of spotlight away from the nets .

I have been a Jets fan for years, and Mike Tannenbaum says absolutely NOTHING to the media. They are still negotiating the contract more than likely.

I don't know if I would use the word....frustrated.

Kerr will be our coach n they are just figuring out $$ n years.

I am excited to have a system that has won many past chips.

I love the direction the team is heading with Phil jax at helm....

STEVE KERR GAVE INSIGHT INTO WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM HIM:

"I don't think it would be 'Seven Seconds or Less'," Kerr said, in reference to Mike D'Antoni's famously copied offensive system that has turned the game into one dominated by small-ball and pick-and-rolls.

Kerr shared his thoughts about coaching the his ambitions with ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst a few months ago on Windhorst's "Below the Rim" podcast. This was well before Kerr had become the lead candidate to be the Knicks' next head coach, but it does offer a look into what can be expected.

"I love watching the Pacers play," he said. "Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like size. I like teams that can put two bigs on the floor and defend the paint and still stretch the floor offensively and put a good attack on the court on that end. Obviously it's tough to do, you have to have unique personnel to do that."

"The biggest thing is ball-movement on offense," he said. "Forcing the defense to react and respond. I just hate isolation basketball. So as a coach, I would absolutely demand a lot of ball movement and spacing."

"I've lost count of how many Hall of Fame coaches I've played for," he said. "I've had this incredible wealth of experience learning at the feet of some of the best coaches ever. That doesn't automatically make anyone a great coach, but it definitely gives me a lot of experience and knowledge to work from. I'm pretty lucky in that regard."

Sounds good to me!...time will tell...

Kerr's decision is merely a natural one, come on y'all if a company courted you to come on board and you wanted to

you still have to think it through and see if its truly the best case scenario moving forward...hell you'd be committing your life and years to it..common sense is never jump into bed until all sides is happy

so this is just routine folks ...it's still playoffs i would get nervous if we didn't have a Coach by Draft night

patience is a virtue and time is the teacher.

Let's get this clear: Whatever happens with Kerr (which I really couldn't care less about, it's not like he's the second coming), it's on Phil.

It was his candidate, his first choice, his idea. And since it's Jax, it became a trend.

Money isn't an issue for the Knicks, so it's about Kerr and Jax at this point.

If Kerr goes somewhere, Jax didn't couldn't close.

That's on Jax, imo.

O/T  Don't know if this was posted yesterday,

"Alex Kennedy: Good news for the New York Knicks: Iman Shumpert (@Iman Shumpert) is already in the gym working hard here at IMG Academy. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA

New York Knicks, Iman Shumpert

A fly on the wall said that in the exit meeting with the players Phil Jackson told Shump that he wanted him to compete for the starting point guard position next year, so Shump is putting in the work. After about 20 years Phil Jackson is bringing a level of 'professionalism" and "discipline" that have been missing since the Pat Riley, JVG, Ewing era. IMO if everything work out the way it's suppose to work out the Knicks can and will reach that 60 win plateau, guaranteed!

So SVG cares about the basketball-related parts of the contact, but for Kerr it just comes down to the $$$?

Detroit is offering SVG full control over basketball operations. That's a nice job offer, for sure.

@Seth Plaut The alternatives are disatrous for Kerr too, you know. His best chance to succeed is here. Golden State fired a more than capable coach because they didn't like him, but the players did. Its going to take Kerr a half a season just to have the likes of Curry say three words to him. In NY he is Phil's boy, and commands respect and is second in command when it comes to Player Personnel. Its a dream job in two years, he just wants compensation for having to move his family and the cost of living, I get that. Let him have dinner at the Firrs off the interstate in OKC and put a scare into Dolan for a few extra bucks. It'll be fun.

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@illmatix Read today that Kerr likes 2 bigs. If they do ship out Chandler, they'll probably want another big in the starting 5. Possibly Cole Aldrich.

Knicks_Fanatic

@VerySilentJay

Steve Mills is the GM and handling all the Knick signings. That is his job and he reports to Dolan. Remember Mills was on the podium when Phil was hired. It's not Phil's call. He doesn't have control over contracts.

Coaches are always fired with years left on their contract. They just need to be paid off. Woody will get paid not to coach next year.

I dont want Magic to purchase the team.

Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieTKB

The problem here is that Sterling was just a slumlord, until he bought the Clippers. Now he is a famous, infamous celebrity. Many of the faceless wealthy see ownership of a sports franchise as a way to meet large ego needs for fame and adulation. Look at how loved James Dolan is here in Knick land. If he didn't run the Knicks, no one would know him from Adam. These owners cling to their franchises for personal, not financial needs.

tw22

@Knicks_Fanatic @Josh GabrielIn the long run I think that's a much better job than Golden State. Its currently an easier conference and there are already pieces there to build the kind of defensive team SVG would want.

David Lee is a prime example, great player offensively off the ball and on the boards but he has been in the league too long to not play defense better. SVG looks at guys like Lee and Curry and Thompson and sees undersized playmakers that can't stop his brother off the dribble. He goes to Detroit, though I would love to see him here.

@BiggieTKB @Seth Plaut  It is going to be an extension, but the individual still matters of course. Would you prefer Kerr or Cleamons??? That is what I thought.....

HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@BiggieTKB No they didn't> Felton was the starting point guard and Shumpert knew Woodson was not going to make a change. Also Shump wanted to start more than he wanted to run the point. Now though Shump gets the chance to do both!

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@illmatix @Josh Gabriel The Knicks need some nice role players

Here are some guys they should look at this offeseason:

Shaun Livingston

Patty Mills

Andray Blatche

Shane Battier

Darren Collison

Kris Humphries

Metta World Peace

Andrew Bynum

Pau Gasol

Josh Gabriel
Josh Gabriel

@kingofny @illmatix I actually think STAT could help the Knicks next year, assuming he's healthy, as always. You can put Gasol and STAT as the 2 bigs, if Gasol comes, but that would be a defensive disaster.

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@VerySilentJay @knicksgirl35  I think if Phil thought for a second that Kerr wasn't going to coach here he would be interviewing others. I don't see him risking the embarrassment.

@BiggieTKB @Knicks_Fanatic

Sterling is getting plenty of support from conservative Americans and they are defending him. They claim that he is a victim of a vicious woman, who set him up. They believe that taping and releasing his private conversations is illegal and a complete violation of his rights. They also believe that he has property rights and no one can force him to sell.

Thankfully it's a new era, and before irreparable damage was done not only to Shumpert but also our other young guns like THjr, Aldrich, Tyler and Murry, Phil Jackson got Woodson and his collection of screwball coaches away from them!

HypoCrit_calNYKfans
HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@sir_manolo

Your explanation was the correct reason why Brewer was let go. I don't know where those other Cats got that off the wall crap from that they was talking about!

HypoCrit_calNYKfans
HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@kingofny

If your saying Shumpert has to always be true to his self, I understand that, but the "young Shumpert" needed discipline and professionalism from his coach (Woodson) and he did not get it! Shumpert as did so many of the other players lost respect for Woodson. And Darrell Walker who use to scream at Shumpert every chance he got had to be a downer to Shumpert!

HypoCrit_calNYKfans
HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@kingofny

The "big picture" is that Shumpert had lost not only some of his confidence but he had also lost his focus, And Woodson's numbingly droning shouts from the side line and his pathetic stares had turned a young player like Shumpert into an undervalued unfocused role player.

NOT ANY MORE!!

Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieTKB @Knicks_Fanatic

I don't want to rehash this again. You know that Brewer's cap hold would be renounced. Walsh tried to trade him and got no takers. Brewer didn't want to play with the Knicks. This was like Danny Granger. Brewer wanted to play with a winner.

HypoCrit_calNYKfans
HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@kingofny

Coached by Woodson the last 2+ years I would agree that he have only shown flashes of that type of talent, But Under Phil Jackson (who love him and his potential) and in the triangle Shumpert will approach greatness!

HypoCrit_calNYKfans
HypoCrit_calNYKfans

@BiggieTKB

IMO, Shumpert is the closest player talent wise to Westbrook! He is a "quintessential" poor man's Russell Westbrook and in the triangle his ceiling will be "at worst" all-star status!

Knicks_Fanatic
Knicks_Fanatic

@BiggieTKB

Shump did go to Summer League, but that seems to be forgotten. You know that Shump biggest problem was that he was with Happy Walters and stood in the way of CAA's JR Smith getting a starting position. CAA Woody did everything he could to undermine Shump last season.
