Knicks name can be drawn in draft lottery, but Nuggets control their pick

The Knicks logo could be picked during Tuesday night’s draft lottery, but they don’t control that pick.

As part of the Carmelo Anthony trade, the Denver Nuggets have control of the Knicks lottery pick.

The Knicks’ pick is slotted at No. 12, meaning there’s only a .70 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick and a 2.5 percent chance of moving into the top three picks (Berman, May 19). For the full odds, see this USA Today breakdown.

New York doesn’t have a pick in the second round of the draft, either.

Here's a youtube of the 2011 NBA draft where the Cavs had the Clippers pick as well as their own and used the Clippers pick on Kyrie ..The Nets pick Utah obtained from the DWill trade is also listed

note there is no official reference to the Nets OR the Knicks inthe Lottery.. the announcer wiht NBA TV mentions it but a LITTLE research shows the logo of the traded team is not shown... except in small print on the CAVS draft card..

Is there a Knick fan that doesn't already know Denver gets our pick??

My guess is that Phil will find a way to get us a pick.  Assuming he may buy a late first rounder.

im almost 100% positive that the Knicks logo will NOT be on the board for the draft lottery.   That has never been the case as far as i remember for any other traded pick. unless they change things up for this year.

remember that Orlando gets the lesser of ours or Denver's pick

Unlike others, I'm hoping we get the #1 pick.

First of all, Dolan et al could use the extra embarrassment to remind them forever the problem with giving away future picks and assuming we will be so good that they will be low.  Our pick situation is ridiculous, and we were not a contender obviously.

Furthermore, it makes any picks we choose to trade in the future more valuable.  Our trade partners will think they are trading for the #1 overall every time they get a pick from us.

@Mel Brown The ones that hurt the most are obviously Noah and L.A.

All others picked were scrubs basically...Royce White...Jason Collins..Kirk Snyder...Gordon Hayward...Nene...not really franchise altering players...Nene is the only other solid player in the bunch...from 88-2000..no players worth mentioning..we got the better of the deal..

All Hail NBA draft!....

@BiggieTKB  Quick question, why the hell does this matter? At the end of the day, if we win the lottery, the pick is not ours.

They have to put the Knicks ping pong balls in the hopper, so they can differentiate them from Denver's.

Dolan made that trade and didn't protect either the 2014 or 2016 draft picks. Lottery protection is par for the course in trading picks.

@MeloStat301 @Mel Brown  The Knicks picked Nene at the request of the Nuggets. Had the Knicks not traded Camby and the pick (Nene) to the Nuggets for McD, they would have likely picked Caron Butler.

@Seth plaut read the article and the comments.

Im correcting the record .. many think t he knicks logo will somehow be involved which it won't.

I heard Ryan rucco say this as well.

@Sandro Guedes

real knicks fans know  they couldnt buy a second round pick last year because they didnt have the funds .. they used the $3 million earlier in the year./

they could have swapped a future second but they got CJ Leslie as an undrafted free agent and he was widely considered draftable talent.

@Knicks_Fanatic @BiggieTKB  the Kyrie Irving pick wasnt the Cavs.. it was the Clippers.. IIRC the card said CAVS on it and everything around the lottery was CAVS had the pick... the Clips were hardly mentioned in an offical capacity.   the announcers brought it up but everythign officially was CAVS..

the actual ping pong ball hopper thing is all off stage and not seen.. remember they just come out with the cards lined up in the order specified by the independent auditor who oversees it all...

I always wonder what would have happened if Calpari drafted Kobe and called his bluff. Kobe and Kidd would have been a great, all-time great backcourt.

@akamarb

Kobe refused to play for Charlotte after they drafted him, so he forced a trade to the Lakers. The Nets passed on him for fear that he wouldn't play and took Kerry Kittles.

In the ethos of passion optimism is unnecessary because it does not belong. Passion's fruit is beautiful, sensual, savory, full of ecstasy-ic joy and light. Whereas madness resides in the cold of darkness! In the dark minds and dark and cold hearts of those like the Carmelo haters here at TKB!

Yes, It's pitiful not only for the reasons OLDKNICKS gave , but because another man's life have given birth to imbeciles and rabble rousers who come to TKB just to stir the pot. And over and over they do it, every few days they come back and regurgitate the same BS to see if they can get a bite, and then for some to swallow their BS so they can debate them on what have been debated a thousand times, to debate with them on what is now meaningless! I venture to say that it has gone beyond pitiful, and is bordering on madness!

@Sandro Guedes  that argument that Melo has already made millions upon millions is is irrational.

No one knows what a players expenses are and how much a person has saved vs. how much THEY need to live in the manner THEY are accustomed.

His lifestyle could require 10 million a year in free cash flow from NBA and endorsements.  that's how he chooses to live.  no reason hating on it as a "1% of the top 1%" dont need any more.

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@xmen_nyk  You don't think the Knicks made him a lot of promises that turned out to be empty ones? I do.

BiggieTKB
BiggieTKB

@xmen_nyk  no one is saying Melo would get a $5 million dollar offer under the new CBA.  that isnt realistic.

But what WAS talked about and REALISTIC is a "franchise player" tag similar to the NFL where one player can be tied to a franchise for an extra year or so.. THis could have been part of the new CBA as the owners were talking about it.. in the wake of Lebron leaving Cleveland.

that would have locked Melo into Denver. Something he did not want/

knicksgirl35
knicksgirl35

@xmen_nyk  Scenario: You're a twenty-something year old man who used to be poor as dirt. You hate your stinking coach. Your agent (who you trust at that age because they helped make you rich) are telling you that you should go to the team NOW to get the best deal.

What's the young man to do? He did what he thought was best for him at the time. I don't blame Melo for the Knicks troubles at all.
