So know that it looks like we are going the way of the triangle I ask, is a dominant pg still our #1 priority? Or is it now Lamarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love?

Amare is not giving up his 23 million and he shouldn't! But perhaps he will agree to sign for vets min in 2015!

Uncomfortable/unpopular facts:

Woodson is one of the winningest coaches in Knicks history, both by % and by total wins.

Sometimes all that switching works.  Did anyone see Paul George's comments about why the Knicks won?

Tyson Chandler has been playing great.

Just sayin...

Phil Mushnick in the Post.."Apparently Phil Jackson is the final piece in Jim Dolan's 20 year plan.  And here we thought Dolan didnt' know what he was doing."

Wow, reading that info post by RGM891 about Amare(willing to do anything contract wise to stay a Knick) & Listening to Melo early in the week have a sigh of relief when hearing Jackson wants him to be part of Knicks Future Plans is crazy! Phil 's cache is working already with our own players I can only imagine what kind of player discounts we'll get league wide! I'm starting to believe that Phil's presence alone combined with our players not wanting to get traded, this season might still end up being special! Players are going to bust their butts to not only get in the playoffs but were probably going to over achieve and make a deep run! I'm trying to temper my expectations but excitement is building!!!

Damn Manhattan is giving Louisville all they can handle. I saw the pregame speech from the manhattan coach and win or lose this guy is getting a job at a bigger school

@johneco  Winning % is one thing. The way the team played this season and his overall coaching performance has been truly horrific, and imo, it doesn't defend or justfiy his coaching performance season.

The new lows achieved this season show how this team has fallen way short of expectations and  it explains why they have turned into the most disappointing team of the season.

This is unacceptable.

To say that Dolan was patient with him is a bit of an understatement. Coaches have been fired for a lot less, a lot earlier in a season.

Switching can work yes when you have a versatile group on the floor, and it works if it's not your go-to defensive scheme.

Woodson missed this for about 4 months.

@Ray Jorge  I sincerely dobut the team makes the playoffs. The odds are completely stacked against us, we have a tougher schedule than those ahead of us...

It seems, unfortunately, that it's your classic case of too little too late.

The fact that they're putting in the work just now goes to show what they could've done all season long and how Woodson took about  4 months too late to remember what coaching feels like.

Tells you a lot about the coach that only has 1 month left here in NY and the commitment of the entire seem.

Now that Phil is on board things are looking up for next season.

About Amare...he'll never opt out to take less money. No chance. AB either for that matter.

Phil's a legend, but he's not a magician.

@Ray Jorge I agree with your excitement over Phil arriving, and I share the same, but unfortunately it would take a miracle just for the knicks to even get in the playoffs.  Their odds are at 6%, with so few teams in the history of the sport making up 4+ games with only 14 left to play.  It's possible for the Knicks who are currently on a 7 game winning streak, win all 14 remaining and still miss the playoffs on a 21 game winning streak.  The excitement for Phil is valid, and I truly trust he'll have a huge impact on this franchise moving forward, but this years team put itself in too big of a whole to climb out of, but remember without this awful season Dolan never approaches Phil in the first place, so I'll take phil and no playoffs, then losing in the playoffs without Phil.

I don't think he has an opt out? Does he?

@Sandro Guedes @Kenny Kaufman  the PG your describing them seems like Kyle Lowry to a T .

..as far as a Big for the triangle ....i would perfer Aldridge over Gasol any say of the week ...gasol is a major knee injury waiting to happen .

Kenny Kaufman
Kenny Kaufman

Dare I say I completely agree with Sandro! 1st time for everything! Aldridge would definately be my top target! A pg upgrade is still necessary but we don't have to break the bank for it! Kyle Lowry would actually be perfect but he's gonna want a lot of cheddar!

Kenny Kaufman

Agreed, nobody in there right mind is gonna give up that kind of payday! This will be Anare's last big payday, I can see him coming back in 2015 for the cheap though. But if he stays healthy and productive he probably will be traded! 23 million expiring is a nice trade chip for the Knicks, along with Chandlers 15 mill and Bargs 12 mill! Either way there is plenty of light at the end of the tunnel for our Knicks! Phil knew that, that's part of the reason he took the gig! Phil ain't no dummie!

@VerySilentJay @johneco I never much liked Woodson, and definitely think we need a new coach.  I also don't like all the switching, I think a smart team can pick it apart, especially when they have time to specifically prepare for it, like in the playoffs.

That said, I think the hatred of Woodson is overblown.  The team overachieved for him the first year and a half.  And it's just a fact, he has one of the top 5 records in our history.  This year was a titanic flop, and I do blame him for some of that, but most of it is on the players and fate (injuries).

@VerySilentJay @Ray Jorge  I think the playoffs are more than likely for one reason: The Hawks getting into the playoffs makes their best potential draft pick 15th, The Hawks missing the playoffs makes their best potential draft pick 1st and their worst 8th because the east is so much worse than the west. Do you think Danny Ferry would rather a 1st round annihilation at the hands of the Pacers/Heat and the 15th pick or missing the playoffs in a year of Horford injury and the 8th pick as worst case scenario?

lindro88

@Seth Nadler @Ray Jorge  Spot on.  If they go 40-42 nothing changes.  I'm surprised the Hawks decided not to tank.  At least not yet.

@Armand N Berdynaj @rgm891  I totally agree man.  Imagine he opts out of his contract.  I have a better chance of making the perfect college bball bracket and I already lost lmao.

@thatsagoodpoint @therealprof @Sandro Guedes @Kenny Kaufman  Its looking like any PG that fits well into the Triangle and actually plays defense can only be had via trade(Lowry is a FA in the wrong year). The Grizzlies are at a crossroads right now. Z-Bo is aging and if they lose Gasol, they are lottery material, hell they might be in the lottery this year. Conley will be available at or around draft day 2015 for sure.

therealprof
therealprof

@Sandro Guedes @Kenny Kaufman  I agree completely, I threw out the idea of Marc Gasol as our top 2015 target the other day, but I like getting Conley somehow even better. I dont know how we would get him, I am pretty sure he is locked up until 2016, but it cant hurt to try.

Kenny Kaufman

Lol, won't be long til you say something stupid! Actually your right about 50% of the time but the truth hurts, people don't want to hear that everyday!

Kenny Kaufman
Kenny Kaufman

I hope your right! Plus I have never seen Aldridge in 1 commercial ever! NYC could do a lot for his marketability! Who wouldn't want out of Portland! Let's see Phil work his magic and hypnotize these mofos by spinning his 13 rings!

Kenny Kaufman
Kenny Kaufman

Because Aldridge wants his money just like MELO did when he left Denver.

Kenny Kaufman

I think Amare will be a sweetener to a bigger trade! Maybe LA tells Portland he wants out and we send Amare, Chandler, and Shump or Timmy to Portland?

@johneco @VerySilentJay  Coaches take the blame or the glory.

Last years' overachievement led Woodson to be a candidate for COY and ultimately his flaws were exposed in the playoffs.

Without the team's leaders, his lack of leadership were even overshadowed by his weak tactics.

This year we saw a desperate man throw players under the bus which led to some quitting on him, and ultimately what we're seeing is a last ditch effort to actually show some pride.

Imo, too little too late.

The players of course share blame. But Woodson took 4 months to find his rotations and lineups. He took 4 months to understand that your players come first and you can't throw them under the bus to hide your own shortcomings.

Injuries are a part of the game, always. I don't see Thibs blaming injuries and trades for his team's performances.

@lindro88  Lance likely sees Turner as their bargaining chip in negotiations. Turner is an RFA and Lance is an UFA, if Lance asks for too much they will pass and match a smaller Turner offer sheet. It was a great future move by Bird, IMO, but it has certainly disrupted their chemistry.

lindro88
lindro88

@johneco @thatsagoodpoint  Seems like the Pacers are finding  a lot of things hard to deal with lately.  They haven't been the same team since they needlessly picked up Evan Turner. Lance hasn't been the same, the chemistry seems off.  Maybe they fix it, but it would be great to see them fall off just in time to get knocked out early in the playoffs.  Whoever it is they are playing.  I dislike the Pacers more than Miami.  BTW I saw the comment about the switching.  Maybe Woodson paid him to say that.

lindro88
lindro88

@thatsagoodpoint @Sandro Guedes @VerySilentJay @omega_red @Ray Jorge  Cleveland actually could use a big man like Chandler.  They have Hawes who floats around the perimeter, Tristan Thompson is a bust.  Chandler would make Cleveland a pretty dangerous team, assuming they were able to convince Deng to stick around.  That team has a lot of talent.

lindro88
lindro88

@thatsagoodpoint @VerySilentJay @omega_red @Ray Jorge  Amare's family would have him declared unfit to manage his affairs if he opted out and took 2m.  People say all kinds of things when its going well.   I'm happy or Amare.  He's playing at the highest level he has since his first year.  He still is playing on two bad knees, and next year will be the last time he collects "big" money as an NBA player.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@omega_red @VerySilentJay @Ray Jorge  I'm a bit sketchy on that one.

I haven't really taken a look at the new CBA in depth.

Imo, if Amare's serious at all with those statements, he'd opt out and really take a serious paycut to remain with the team.

If not, may his expiring contract serve us well.

lindro88
lindro88

@Sandro Guedes @lindro88  I'm gonna guess Phil has a few numbers in his phone he can call.   Are you as surprised as me by the Hawks recent streak.  What's the point of making the playoffs?  Unless you have no pick, or are really good, I'd assume the mandate would be lose.

lindro88
lindro88

@Sandro Guedes @lindro88 @carl hill @rgm891 @Armand N Berdynaj  I don't know if Phil will be great from day one, but I am fairly confident his decisions will be his own. If Dolan wanted to interfere anymore, he wouldn't pay 12m per to Phil Jackson.  i know you put good GM's on a very high pedestal, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and Say Phil will figure it out pretty fast.  He knows what a winning team is supposed to look like.

@Sandro Guedes @carl hill  They might as well keep Bargs also at this point.  Let his contract run out and that's it.  But I dont see Phil keep these contracts but man what do I know.  Maybe he just adds a bit to this roster, new coaching staff and tries to give this one more shot.
