Knicks waive Shannon Brown

The Knicks have waived Shannon Brown, President Phil Jackson announced.

Brown was signed to a 10-day contract, then signed through the remainder of the season, in February and March, respectively.

He scored 2.1 points, with 0.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 7.8 minutes per game, over 19 games with the Knicks last season.

Previously: For Shannon Brown, a reunion with Phil Jackson is the perfect fit

Keith Schlosser, Lead Writer

At the very least, now the Knicks have a spot open for Cleanthony Early.

Brown was actually initially signed by New York before Jackson came to town. When his former coach was named President of Basketball Operations, the Big Apple seemed like a decent fit for Brown.

And though the veteran had a nice moment or two over the course of last season, his level of play was nowhere close to what many (Jackson included) had become accustomed to over the years.

Brown did something quite admirable this month by participating in NBA Summer League with the Knicks in an attempt to prove his worth. He undoubtedly served as a triangle-offense mentor of sorts for the young guns in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, his efforts weren’t enough to secure a spot for him moving forward.

The Knicks have more pressing needs and could use an injection of youth in their roster this coming season (a la Jeremy Tyler and a perhaps soon to be formally signed Anthony, among others), which makes Brown the obvious odd man out.

Very good article, but for me unless the Knicks are getting back a player that moves the needle in this team becoming a contender in the East, then just stand pat.

I really think waiting for the summer or mid season would be best for the Knicks, trade value for guys can't be any lower for the Knicks. THJR might be the exception. Unless something great comes along.

@1harris1 No, that was good enough insight into the world of self promotion and attaining twitter followers.

@KnicksMaybeThisYear ..i agree ...no need for desperation moves at the moment . lets see how things work out for us and every other team ...as is we already are a playoff team , lets see if come mid season a potential "put us over the top" trade pops up .

@KnicksMaybeThisYear Not really a "BIG THREE" in terms of marquee name notoriety. The only one with that grandiose profile is Duncan; and that's not to say Parker and Ginobli aren't high caliber players...just not top bill attractions.

@SheSaidSpikeWho  Didn't Woodson say that he could never work for a team owned by Sterling?  So which team does he go running towards to take an assistant coach's job?  And this before Sterling was officially outed.

Pure BS that any of them forfeits their salary and sits out if Sterling is still there.

They flat out know how to play the game, and win

From a Prue basketball standpoint they qualify as a big three to me

SheSaidSpikeWho
SheSaidSpikeWho

@1harris1 @SheSaidSpikeWho Yup lol. Heard him saying that on NBAtv. Thank you for reminding me about that lol. Woodson didn't turn down a mill or two so those players damned sure won't forfeit 18/19 mill.

If it's solely about winning then there have been big threes for many generations and term wouldn't be so popular as it is today. There has to be some form of "top bill attraction" for a term to have such meaning and appeal beyond the quintessential being a winner. Ray and KG weren't winning players like Manu and Parker for their respective teams but carried more name notoriety than Manu and Parker. So how could they along with Pierce be a big three if any of them never made it to the conference finals but Manu Parker already one at least one ring to their name? Name recognition and notoriety. The term was coined because you put the best STARS from different teams in one lineup.

BronsonSNY
BronsonSNY

@KnicksMaybeThisYear Between Ginobli and Parker, they can play--maybe first ballot HOFers. But what many would say qualify a group of players as big three besides talent is name recognition on a larger scale. That can also be a hypocritical way of thinking. Let's say Parker and Ginobli migrated to the Knicks, along with say...Aldridge of the Blazers. Now people would the say the Knicks have a big four with Melo and the aforementioned names. But with their previous teams they were all-stars on small market teams i.e. Garnett with the Wolves and Ray with the Sonics before they formed their big three Celtics. So there are some variables that contribute to a big three outside of being of a winning caliber.

@Mel Brown @BronsonSNY @KnicksMaybeThisYear

"There are many perspectives.  However, since the term has surfaced many teams have been identified as having a big three, past and present."

Agreed. However, when we break down the original posters question of who is the next big three, that person probably isn't saying it based on....

"On name recognition and notoriety Parker, Ginobili, and Duncan are as recognizable as any trio in the NBA."

...they're saying what team would you say achieved acquiring the ultimate mix of elite basketball talent on one squad ie Lebron, Wade and Bosh with the Heat and Pierce, Ray and KG with the Celtics.
