Melo: ‘I want to retire in New York’

Adam Zagoria, Team Reporter

Carmelo Anthony now says he wants to finish his career as a Knick.

“I want to retire in New York,” he said on TNT during the Knicks-Bulls game. “I mean, let’s just be quite frank.”

Anthony has recently taken heat from TNT’s Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith for saying he wanted to become a free agent following this season, and Anthony said he wanted to set the record straight.

“I think a lot of people jumped the gun when I said I wanted to be a free agent,” he said. “And yeah, I want people to come play in New York. I want them to want to play in New York. I want New York to be that place where guys want to come play in New York.”

Anthony was recently quoted in the New York Observer as saying: “I want to be a free agent . I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It’s like you have an evaluation period, you know. It’s like if I’m in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.”

Anthony has two years remaining on his Knicks deal but can opt out of the final season, which is worth $23.3 million.

Of course, he stands to make more money if he re-signs with the Knicks.

He could sign a a five-year deal with New York worth $129,135,806, whereas if he signs with another team, the most he can make is $95,897,372 over four years, according to calculations by ESPN salary-cap expert Larry Coon.

isles are a dynamo.  chicago and isles are the 2 most unique teams in the league.  Marc Andre Fluery is not mentally stable enough to face the isles in the playoffs.

i thought pittsburgh was very aggressive until the islanders made it 3-3.  then they got a little more careful but that took away the edge in the play they had earlier in the game.  you have to play all-out against the islanders, and even then they keep coming back at you.  the several minutes of play before strome's goal were great.

 I guess it will be Johnson tomorrow in Montreal. If they can win tomorrow it would be very nice.

@caseysdad

Another Lundqvist-Saving-the-Rangers-A$$'s win. Outshot 36-26, and the Rags win 2-1.  How many times have we seen this?

And Nashville scores two late 3rd period goals to beat the Caps. Rangers get lucky on that.

@dimaio34

That's what I want to hear the crowd yelling on the 27th: "YOU CAN'T BEAT US"

@mrcisback yes, no reason to overload Halak, especially since we are doing so well, and playing at the top of the league.  Halak will have his matinee on Monday against the flyers.

@tonelli27 It couldn't possibly just because of the acoustics in the place. The Coliseum is a like a high school arena in some respects and I mean that in a good way.

They go as far as the King takes them.

The Rangers have a tough time scoring three a game, unless they are up and the opposition opens up.But if they fall behind, it gets ugly for them.
