If Hardaway Jr has to be included in any trade. I don't think we should do it. Especially if it doesn't make us title contenders.

This may be our last week with the current bunch

After All-Star Break everything can change.

either we re-build around Melo or we blow up the Team.

Steve Mills GM Seat should be pretty warmed up by now

Other rumor is Washington is desperately seeking a backup veteran PG - on link to stuff on it: http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2014/02/carmelo-bobcats-wizards.html

IF this is true, Knicks should make them part of any deal to get a PG - they have quality assets on the bench and young guys galore, and would take Felton's $5 mil off the books instead of it eating cap (pun intended) in the 2015 FA term.

This is all IF the knicks are trying to get a PG. They can swap assets from Washington.

I totally believe CAA is trying to move Melo to the Bulls. They are an agency in the business of making money and Melo in CHI w/ Rose will make them money.  It also pairs one of the biggest Air Jordan partners w/ a huge Addidas sponsor.

OT:

Question...the PG experiment didn't work well with Toney Douglas or Iman Shumpert..but should Knicks see what they have in THJR as a PG??  Obviously, he needs to polish his handle...BUT..he is 6'6 clear advantage over many PG 's in the league...he also is very fast and athletic, mike breen was heard saying he doesn't know who gets down the court in less strides than THJR.  He can shoot the ball, especially coming off pin downs which is great to have as a PG, but we haven't seen much playmaking in his hands.  I believe its due to the fact he's a rookie, the ball isn't really much in his hands...he is athletic enough to play D and keep up with fast PG's and is a hard worker...his defense has improved in this half season alone...just a thought.  I know everybody wants to trade for so and so PG, but do you think we can have a PG in THJR??  I'm not so sure either way...just putting it out there...what do ya think??

All Knicks problems stem from dolan's absurd dismissal of the draft. It's pretty obvious that teams need a mixture of home-grown talent and free agents in order to succed. It's very rare to see an elite team that is all home-grown or all free-agency.

Most teams have a star drafted or developed by that team. We have none.

I no the trade that gets us rondo ready, nyk get rondo, suns get bogans and Tyson, celtics get 2014 from suns, 2018 from Knicks, okafor, Felton and shump done deal we don't even take on Wallace

@KnickelusKnickleby

LOL relax.

Most likely, we will trade Artest for a 2nd rounder, à la Ronnie Brewer and that's it.

Sandro
Sandro

@Biggie

Remove Hardaway and throw in JR or Felton and I'm all in.

@orlando_knickfan

If Dolan wasn't man enough to do what's necessary, good thing the CAA is saving him from his own decisions.

Melo leaving us in free agency would be devastating.

@thatsagoodpoint

I don't believe Boston would give away Green, Rondo and Bradley on the same package.

Any Rondo deal will involve Gerald Wallace.

But I like the idea of stealing a 1st rounder from the Suns for Chandler, in order to chase Rondo with it.

Sandro

@MeloStat301

Hardaway is a spot up, athletic shooter. He is a poor man Ray Allen, and that's something really good to be. I don't see a PG in him. He lacks the handles and court vision to do so, pretty much like Shumpert. His defense isn't good, so he wouldn't take advantage of his size.

The only good thing he has to be a PG is his shooting. And if you're nothing more than a good shooter in a guard body...you're a shotting guard.

@orlando_knickfan

Any deal with Chicago for Melo, should be turned into a three team deal.

Chicago doesn't have the young studs that the Knicks should trade Carmelo for.

@OLDKNICK  That's Incarcerated Bob - didn't he get banned from every sports radio show for making BS up?

saintknick

@Sandro @thatsagoodpoint  All true, except I think if they trade Rondo, they'll move Green too. He's not an elite player and makes solid $$, and moving rondo means you're giving up for the next 500 days, with eyes on building a monster in 2015.

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@OLDKNICK @MeloStat301 True...its something I think they should at least explore..maybe give him some reps in SL..kid works hard and seems to have a good bball IQ for a rook...wouldn't hurt to see what ya got there.

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@Sandro @MeloStat301 I see that in him as well...but I said that to say this...the Indiana pacers were looking to draft THJR AS A BACK UP POINT GUARD.  Did they see something in him that we don't??  check it out:

The Pacers have the 23rd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and former Michigan guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is one player that figures to be taken in that range. There’s no doubt, the Pacers are in need of a backup point guard and a scorer. … If the Pacers take him at 23, he’s certain that he can help in both areas.

http://fansided.com/2013/06/16/nba-draft-2013-indiana-pacers-may-be-targeting-tim-hardaway-jr/#!vexZT

I think he can develop his handle, he does have court vision though..hes made a couple amazing passes here and there, but like I said him being a rookie,. it limits what he can do with the ball.

@Sandro @orlando_knickfan  Washington is desperate for a backup PG and will over-pay. The Suns, Toronto, Sacramento, LA, Minnesota, and Boston are all seemingly very active on the phones right now shopping and buying. There are folks out there...

I just don't think Chicago has a way to pay asking on Melo. If they are sure he resigns, they should have to pay everything. If they aren't sure, someone else will pay more for a 1-year rental.

Knicks would need at least - 2 firsts or 1 lottery pick, cap relief for 2015 (so take felton and JR), a young stud or 2 at least as good potential as Gallo had.

orlando_knickfan
orlando_knickfan

@kneggyknik It may look that way, but looks can be deceiving.  They will have no bench just like now so when Rose and Noah inevitably get injured, good luck.

Sandro
Sandro

@Biggie @Sandro

Yeah, I know. Just wishful thinking.

Anyway, I'd pull the trigger even as you put it.

Rondo and Green are no joke, close to Melo.

saintknick
saintknick

@Sandro @saintknick @thatsagoodpoint  absolutely - I'm just saying if need be they would move him - but moving wallace is an absolute must.

They would probably move green in a different deal is all I'm saying.

Sandro
Sandro

@thatsagoodpoint @Sandro

Wallace makes more money than Green, and isn't even half as productive as him. I'm not saying that the Celtics want to keep Green. I'm just saying that they can move Green on a separate deal, as there will be takers.

Wallace, no one wants. So, they have to take advantage of Rondo's value to get rid of him.

Pretty much like us with Melo and JR.

Sandro
Sandro

@MeloStat301 @Sandro

Well... we can't predict the future. But for me, if he's excelling at the 2 spot, there's no need to try and change things. He could go Penny on us, or he could go Toney Douglas, if you know what I mean.

It's not like we have Jordan and Kobe to play the 2, so I don't see why we should use him as a PG when we need him as a SG just as bad.

saintknick
saintknick

@Sandro @MeloStat301  Hey, if it is "lets spend time developing him as a pg" I am with you. But if the season is over, why not play him with Pablo at the 1-2 and let him run point a bit. Who cares if it doesn't work - you'll get to see how he thinks and how he runs an offense. J Kidd wasn't a great PG because he was athletic or amazing at getting to the rim or hitting 3s. HE was great because he had A+ court vision, A- passing precision, and A+ game recognition.

ThJR exhibits those traits, but he also can shoot lights out. He's not a PG - but he could be a SG who, on a Melo team, gets 6 assists a game one day. Lets see if he mans up to that style of play - just for a few sets each game.

MeloStat301
MeloStat301

@Sandro @MeloStat301 There are many molds to PG now-a-days...he wont be a rondo...They said the same thing about Penny hardaway....Penny learned the PG position essentially in the NBA.

Sandro
Sandro

@MeloStat301 @Sandro

He'll never be a floor general. If you turn him into a PG, you'd get a Jordan Crawford type of player.

He can be a Top 10 SG in the league someday.
He can never be a Top 10 PG in the league.

So for me, the choice is clear...
