Rockets, Bulls leading the arms race for ‘Melo

Sam Spiegelman

The Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls are the most likely landing spots for Carmelo Anthony when he becomes a free agent this summer, Yahoo! Sports reported.

Anthony wants to immediately pursue a championship and is waiting for the Bulls and Rockets to create enough salary cap space to sign him, according to the report. Re-signing with the New York Knicks “continues to fade,” while Houston and Chicago have surfaced as “the clear frontrunners.”

Anthony met with the Knicks brass, including president Phil Jackson, on Friday night, and Yahoo! Sports reported the meeting had little impact on the All-Star forward’s thinking. There remains too much uncertainty about the roster and how quickly the team can contend in 2014.

Gotta feel good about the Spurs winning............its like the good guys winning over the ego maniac , show boater in miami ...... looks like the HEAT need to refocus on their bench as more needed reinforcment than adding Melo .

@SANDRO...

So because it's LBJ passing the ball to the cast they somehow magically begin hitting shots?

I like how when Melo loses its all on him... he can't make his team mates better... but LBJ gets dominated and it's because his teammates are not benefiting from his greatness it's all their fault! LMAO!

Man, according to a few on here, the draft is a crap shoot! So RC Buford must be a hell of a CRAP shooter! Kawhi Leonard=MVP... That's no crap shoot bozos.... Same people say Sam PRESTI just gets lucky and it's mainly because he always got top picks in the draft, yet that same Sam PRESTI drafted Tony Parker while in San Antonio...and Sam PRESTI's back up point guard in OKC, Reggie Jackson(I think that's his last name) is better than any pg we have right now... It's not a CRAP shoot, it's who us making the selections and who is scouting the available players, not acting like scouts while only possessing the talents of a water boy.... On a brighter note, that was great watching Miami get served, by players that were DRAFTED!!! The draft is crucial to success, Tiago Splitter would and could be our starter, and he was DRAFTED, rather late in the draft I might add... The only CRAP shoot going on, is people shooting CRAP in the toilet bowl... Cleveland had and still has tons if top picks, they SUCK...

It's going to be hilarious when melo is bo8nced from the playoffs w/ one of those two teams. Mark my words , melo will not, repeat Not , be in the finals next year.

brookdon

LBJ lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks. He should have made Wade and Bosh better. KIDDING.

This will be an interesting offseason. Miami Heat roster may be facing an implosion.

Heat got their floppin' butts whipped. If Stern was still around the refs wouldn't have been fair. Maybe Melo will see that it's best to stick it out. Please stay Mel!

It's different when a team drafts a group of guys n they become Hal of famers.....

Cannot compare the heat against spurs or lakers/celts of 80s....

Those teams had great hall of famers that they drafted

so melo goes to Miami teams up with LeBron wade and bosh wins the title lets say he gets the finals mvp it doesn't count because he is playing with 3 other hall of famers?

@bockers Then that would have to be in 2015 which means that both he and Melo would have to elect not to exercise their ETCs.  Melo's opting out.  And I believe he's gonna leave NY.

mrdullah
mrdullah

@thatsagoodpoint sounds familiar to me but of course in NY it's NOT the supporting cast Melo just sucks right? The almighty LBJ gets his azz handed to him and it's his team mates fault... lol

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@thatsagoodpoint I disagree. I think the offense isn't deviced to get the most out of either Wade or Bosh. It's made for Lebron for him to make whatever decision he wants.

Most of those decisions are either a kickout for the open 3 or take the shot himself, whether it's a 3 or attacking to basket.

I don't see him making plays for Bosh (probably the biggest waste), and I'm certainly don't see him creating for Wade inside or from midrange where he's money.

His kickouts every now and then and his transition alley-oops and defense are the biggest contributions that I can see, especially in this series.

johneco
johneco

@brookdon  Yea, it's interesting.  No way Wade and Bosh will opt out.  But Lebron must want to (and for all of them to).  Conflict.

Personally I think in the end Lebron opts in, and gives it another year.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@brookdon Curiously enough, his numbers went down accross the board this season.

Less assists, less rebounds, more turnovers.

His scoring was better and more efficient on almost 18 FGA.

Personally, I saw a Miami offense that was literally all about Lebron vs the world. One on one basketball, the ocasioanl kickout for the 3 ball, but very little.

As the primary ball handler, it's on you to get your guys going. Bosh was a scorer in Toronto, why, because he was consistently involved, from midrange, in the P&P, in the P&R, and now he should even be a better option because he added the 3 ball. How many times did anyone see Bosh and LBJ work together?

Aside from those alley-oops in transition, I don't see a tremendous dynamic between LBJ and Wade either.

I just see one on one ball.

It's not about knocking, but I just find it ludicrous to say, "he doesn't have any help" when he has a scoring PF and a scoring SG and he doesn't get them involved.

theking

@brookdon  same LeBron with more turnovers then assist? the student of the game? the player that makes others better but didn't make wade or bosh better? not that lbj right?

@Dedra Fore It's real sweet. The Heat got their asses handed to them. I'm loving that. We'll get ours. Phil, Fisher and Melo will see to that!

@Sandro Guedes @mrdullah Not my intention ... but the double standard is comical... You're totally skirting my point though... it's about the supporting cast NOT the individuals...

You're saying the same passes Melo makes and the team fails LBJ can make them and JR SHUMP FELTON etc will hit them...

Stop..Melo didn't make the playoffs..don't compare the 2..Lebron is best player of this era..can't compare him n MJ or anyone else..all different styles..if Lebron went to NY all u guys would b drooling n ordering ur LBJ Knicks jerseys..just let it be..they lost ..he has 2 rings with a chance to get much more he's still only 29

@1harris1  I don't think Bosh would get anywhere near the $20+M he's supposed to make next season if he opted out either. To me his individual value has gone down since joining Heat. He'd definitely get more yrs and money than Wade but still don't think he should opt out either

@SheSaidSpikeWho. Tell them they really really need Tyson

VerySilentJay

@thatsagoodpoint Wade isn't what he was, but he can still score. This can't be denied. He worked on his J, which showed, yet LBJ didn't do nearly enough to inolve him and take advantage of that. And imo, he didn't do nearly enough to help other teammates get into a rythm trying to do way too much by himself.

How about setting a good screen for Wade so he can get a clean look from 20 feet like Duncan does for Parker time and time again? A simple play, but something that can definitely help get into a rythm with his shot.

Amare's even in a worse situation than Wade physically, yet he found a way to score working with Felton, posting up, but most of all, because his teammates gave him the ball and placed him in a solid situation to score. Despite all his flaws defensively and even his decline, his teammates trusted him to score, gave him plenty of chances (even when he made endless mistakes in the beginning), and ultiamtely proved to be our best scorer off the bench. Why? he was used in the proper way and they trusted him with the ball.

I didn't see LBJ doing that with his 2 sidekicks.

What a way to waste Chris Bosh...

NoVaCaInE
NoVaCaInE

@thatsagoodpoint Nope. When Wade's knee was right, the only offensive chemistry they had were on fast breaks. They never played well together in half court situations. Also, Like VSJ brought out, they NEVER use Bosh. Other than as a spot up 3 point shooter. This is a guy who was a really good player in Toronto.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@thatsagoodpoint Sure, but he still is a scorer (albeit a bit slower and b!tchier), and I didn't see that guy "who makes everyone better" using his talents to put his sidekick in the best possible situation to score.

Rinse and repeat for Bosh.

To say that he doesn't have help, to me, is ludicrous.

They were just outplayed and outhustled. They didn't want it bad enough, and Lebron didn't trust his teammates and wanted to do everything by himself, hence the very simple Miami offense that was seen throughout the finals.

theking
theking

@brookdon  bosh is a hall of famer its plenty of dudes in the hall of fame with no rings so why cant he be?

Seth Nadler
Seth Nadler

He's a role player that doesn't show up when it matters, Lebron makes players around him better, and Bosh is a jump shooting center now.

The knicks are light years away

@hope4best1 @theking  ok good. so he is a coward because he is going to get help that he never had and to win a ring while leonard is on a team of 3 hall of famers?

ok sounds right

Brian Webster

@knicks1 @Sandro Guedes  You're twisting it to your definition of worth though. To me a player who does all that Kawhi does for under $2M is worth more to a team than a player who does what Melo does for over $21M. I don't think many people think Melo is worth almost $20M more for a season than Kawhi. Plus you then have all that extra money to spend on other players.
