Stackhouse to meet with Phil Jackson

Jerry Stackhouse said he will meet with Phil Jackson to discuss a position in the Knicks organization (Donahue, May 6).

“I’d love to coach. The pro level is where I think I’d be best,” Stackhouse said. “I know what I didn’t want to play against so I think I’m a better defensive coach than an offensive coach.”

Phil Jackson denied this after D'Antoni was hired, but the Lakers reported that he wanted to only coach home games and not travel with the team. If this is true, he may be even more hands on that we imagined. So hiring a Kerr and mentoring him, along with some time spent with the team could be a great situation for the Knicks. I do believe Phil wants to coach, but is physically unable to handle the rigors of travel. This could be a win-win situation.

Steve Kerr wouldn't be the first person to use the Knicks for leverage in securing a better deal somewhere else.

@andthenjohnsaid  the Stackhouse info is too vague,

was he interviewing as an assistant or is he getting an internship?

He has that Italian style down. I'm concerned about his elbow. He went out in January and it was supposed to heal in 6-8 weeks, unless he had surgery. Surgery would put him out for the year. He never got back on the roster. Not sure if he has any value, until he shows he is healthy

Lowry and Derozan were the same players they always were. What happened was their usage increased. They had more opportunities with the ball. Rudy was taking 18.6 shots per game hitting 39%. That's not good. When Rudy went to SAC and wasn't the primary scorer, he shot 48%.

Memphis traded Rudy and improved.

Toronto traded Rudy and improved.

He thus was not their best player. Rudy is simply a volume scorer, who takes lots of shots and puts up points in an inefficient manner. Lowry and Derozan are better than Rudy.

It's just a question of what the Suns need to move ahead. Obviously when you are building draft picks, especially lottery picks, are invaluable. At some point, you get enough talent and depth, so that rookies won't really contribute right away. If THJ was drafted by the Clippers, he might be as unknown as Reggie Bullock.who went next.

So they have an extra draft pick, but no Bird rights to Gortat, and will move ahead a few spots by missing the playoffs. So let's see who they draft and what they do with their cap space. They really need an experieced veteran player at the PF-C spot. McDonough is good, so I look forward to seeing how he plays his hand. Right now, I think they would be better off with Gortat and his Bird rights.

You can't discount the experience that a playoff series would have on the team as a learning mechanism. The Suns need a big man and there is no guarantee that they will find one in the draft. Let's see how they do with their picks before making a decision on the trade. Plumlee and Len are not looking like they are the answer at this point in time.

Kerr has ties to GSW.

Kerr has close ties to Golden State owner Joe Lacob and team executive Rick Welts, a former Suns president when Kerr was the Phoenix general manager.

Kerr was set to hire Lacob’s son, Kirk, four years ago as a front-office intern, but Kerr left for TNT. Kirk Lacob now is the Warriors assistant GM. One report out the Bay area stated Kerr will be approached, but “there was debate about his candidacy’’ among front-office types. It wasn’t clear if it meant Kerr already was too far along in talks with the Knicks.
