Steve Kerr isn’t on the Lakers radar… because he’s too close to landing Knicks job

The Lakers have a vacancy at their head coaching position, but Steve Kerr isn’t on the list. Why? Because he’s too far along toward landing the Knicks gig (Berman, May 2).

“I think right now [Kerr's] totally focused on the Knicks’ situation,” Lute Olson, who coached Kerr at Arizona in the 1980s and spoke to him on Tuesday, told SNY.tv and The Knicks Blog by phone, echoing comments he made to the New York Post (TKB, May 1).

Kerr and Knicks President Phil Jackson have already had several meetings and talks, according to reports.

Jackson has also interviewed Bill Cartwright as a possible assistant on the coaching staff (TKB, April 30).

Beverley actually started out on Lillard, Parsons and Bev switched before the inbound, but they never switched back after the Mo Will screen....not sure why. Gave Dame zero resistance while he ran around that double staggered screen...too easy.

Houston Rockets:

Harden was the 5th best ranked player in the league.

Howard was the 7th best ranked player in the league.

Parsons as a third option provided an efficient 16.5 ppg / 5.5 rpg / 4.5 apg.

Patrick Beverly is the second best perimeter defender in the league next to Tony Allen.

They have a backup center that could start for more than half of the league.

Who does the onus fall on for such an early exit? The recipe for a championship and a deep playoff run isnt as easy as you think. See Spurs, Clippers, Pacers, Thunder for example. I dont want to hear that Carmelo cant even get to the dance. These are the best players in the world playing alongside the best players in the world. Melo has JR Smith as his second option, and that didnt even show up till about 60 games into the season!

The Melo trade is part of the reason why we have nobody legitimate to play alongside Melo or picks to trade. The fact is we had to get him here. Melo has to understand that and has to see the summer of 2015 to as a chance to actually build a team around him with Phil. Fresh new start to a new Knicks dynasty hopefully with or without Melo...

Also if Melo was to leave, you have two of his best possible suiters (as listed by the media) in HOU and CHI with first round exits. Interesting

I am very happy for Portland and am rooting for them to win it all. They draft an absolute star in Brandon Roy only to see him retire way too early. They draft Greg Oden instead of KD because they already had their wing scorer/playmaker in Brandon Roy. We all know how Greg Oden turned out..Needless to say they draft an absolute killer in Damien Lillard. He has played like he has been in the league for 10 years since day 1 in the NBA. Lillard has poise that you cant teach and is the coldest dude in the league.  Oh and how did they get Damien Lillard? because BKN was dumb enough to trade their pick for Gerald Wallace lol!

Edit: Damian*

Howard- No heart. Talk's, smile's, and complains all game. Cry baby. Act's like a spoiled child.

Harden- Flop artist x10. Choke artist x10. Act's as if he's done something in the NBA. Cry baby with no toughness/pride.

Watching Lillard hit that game winner against a team with my two least favorite player's on it was priceless!

Hey Dwight Howard, karma is a biatch. Have fun fishing. Even after the Lillard game winner, you looked like you were about to smile and think its all a big joke. YOU are the joke.

HMMMM…….. Didn't the Blazers draft Lillard with the nets pick because the the Nets said their wasn't any impact players in that draft and would rather have Gerald Wallace? Ah nets fans gotta love em

Houston: a massive failure. Just massive. There will be coaching changes, no doubt about it.

Any way you look at it. For everyone knocking on Melo...Harden, even though he's cheaper, was getting 20+ FGA per was never a serious impact player....the lack of double teams on his constant, unproductive isolations sets say it all.

Dude's defense is beyond disgusting. Nowhere near what playoff defense should look like. Matthews, Lillard, and Batum took him to school every night.

He's Pringles' wet dream. Chucker with no consideration for the rest with no compromise on D.

For those seriously willing to compare him to Melo....please, get a grip. No chance.

Harden, Lin, and Parsons quite possible make for the worst backcourt-wing defensive unit of a serious contender (which clearly Houston isn't) in the league.

Harden, arguably, is the worst superstar 2 guard defender available, and he couldn't get the job done with an elite C on his side. You place Melo in Houston, and he would've gotten the Rockets to the 2nd round, imo. He would've destroyed Matthews, Batum, and would've taken LA to school offensively because he's just too slow to guard a SF/PF like Melo.

I'm sure many "Knick fans" will find a way to excuse Harden's play while finding ways to bash Melo and the Knicks in the way, but the reality stands: Harden's a flat out chucker who found no way to take over, lead, make an impact, or make his teammates better, and was completely shut down by Matthews.

Melo, with such a team, would've never let that happen.

Good for Portland. They deserved it. And Harden....wow....tremendously overpaid.

Lillard you F@@@ing stone cold. How you going to send Houston home like that. lol

@kingofny He was so open in my opinion lol. Not wide open but pretty damn open for a .9 second inbound catch and shoot. Got a clean look

@onewhoknix  The onus is on DH and the bearded one. DH is like a robot---too stiff and controlled. He needs agility training or something. Harden is fakin the funk--big time overrated.

Wouldn't mind Portland winning it all...and that three at the buzzer for Damian..just took his confidence to another level. Sheer confidence alone can have people produce...see Lin...confidence plus good talent is what makes players great..see Lilard.

@OLDKNICK I wonder how much Sterling paid her to say that. Another mansion? 3 Bentlies? 2 Ferraries?

Amazingly revealing series... And playoffs.

Harden comes down a bunch of pegs on the star list. I wouldn't call him a superstar at this point...

McHale should fear losing his job, he should zero creativity and was clearly overmatched by Stotts.

d12 as gutless as ever.he doesn't have "IT". Kobe was right,

Parsons is a nice offensive player and stepped up a peg in my book.

Everyone on Portland and in Portland goes up a peg.

Lillard shut that flight down. LOL

@kingofny @onewhoknix YIKES! Kid that is a great thing. This is what I have been trying to hammer home to you.  Melo's game is usually ALL perimeter especially in the clutch.

Did you catch the Spurs/Mavs game where everyone was trying to take it to the rim in the clutch so they could get  fouled or make an easier shot attempt?  My God, I saw Vince Cater tried to take it to he hop and get fouled!  VINCE CARTER, the guy I have killed for years for not doing this.

If Melo learns to tighten his game in key moments, he would be even more lethal and clutch. MJ won too many games on the foul line!

No guarantees to win anywhere, but one place that can offer more money- Melo will be a Knick in all likelihood.

@Sandro Guedes @onewhoknixIf Melo was to leave, I would hope for a sign and trade with HOU. The fact that they got bounced in the first would give us more leverage then if they went deep in the playoffs. The 'untouchables' from the regular season can become very touchable when they get bounced early when projected contenders.

solar_lion
solar_lion

@Sandro Guedes @kingofnyKnicks won't be capped in a year from now. And good coaching, team management and a culture change should yield enough results to get the Knicks to the playoffs and project as a dark horse in the East. So that's that.

solar_lion
solar_lion

@Sandro Guedes @JayfromtheFixI agree with you that Draft picks should not be showered on a trade like icing on a cake. Draft picks should only be used to land Bona fide Stars, Superstars or a solid proven two way vet at most. Not dinosaurs need apply.

brookdon
brookdon

Nah, that trade was all about getting names to attract Howard and take attention from the Knicks. They couldn't afford to wait for a draft pick. Their MO was to steal Knicks fans.

C0P0.

I thought so to. I would cry if I lost a game like that. And the refs helped out Houston.Too funny!

solar_lion
solar_lion

@kingofny @xmenreturnThe answer is NO! Look closely and critically at how those players are called. The refs call their games like they are 1s, 2s, 3s tops. Melo's game is called by refs akin to that of a 4 or 5. He wears the headband to prove the point, since it's always mismatched from being whacked like a post player without the refs calling the opposing defender for that ish.

solar_lion
solar_lion

@kingofny @solar_lion@BigChiefTriangle@onewhoknixExactly because- and I'll repeat- the NBA is f'd up. They need to correct for the unfair disparity and advantage that no state income tax teams have. To NY that disadvantage works like having the team capped twice over. State income tax eats into what the player gets on the bottom line. I believe their is an exception the NBA has for the sole Canadian team. The NBA needs to look into adjusting the yearly salary cap figure on a sliding scale that accounts for respective State income tax. This could offset the advantage the Florida and Texas teams have in the NBA.

solar_lion
solar_lion

@kingofny @BigChiefTriangle@onewhoknixBut Lebron's example was to take less money. So there's that. Ditto with Bosh. But then again it isn't a fair example, since Fla has no income tax. I say NY is capped twice over. Once by the NBA then again by the Atrocious State Income Tax. Ya feel me there fellow fans?

solar_lion
solar_lion

@onewhoknix @kingofnyFavors was on a more team friendly contract when obtained. Parsons will have to be paid to be retained. Cutting into cap space needed to establish the three/two star foundation. Weak reasoning again.

solar_lion
solar_lion

@onewhoknix @kingofnyRoll players are supposed to play a roll and produce off of the best players impact on the opposing teams defense. You Melo haters are so full of crap.

BigChiefTriangle
BigChiefTriangle

@kingofny @onewhoknix  Nobody "wants" to do a rebuild if the team foundation is already in place...hence why onewhoknix prefaced his statement with "IF Melo was to leave".

onewhoknix
onewhoknix

@kingofny @onewhoknix If you trade a star for younger pieces, a la rebuild, you try to collect assets. Is Parsons someone who can lead you to a title? No. Do teams that are close to a title want Parsons? Absolutely. Deron Williams was traded for some picks and Derrick Favors. DO you think Utah was thinking Derrick Favors is going to lead us to a title? No, but he is an asset.

onewhoknix
onewhoknix

@kingofny @onewhoknixI dont understand your logic? Dont collect young pieces because they cant win with stars? Is the only way to win now is to sign 3 stars at one time like Miami? The young pieces that HOU has are great and shouldnt be evaluated by the poor performances of they 'stars' and coach.

BigChiefTriangle
BigChiefTriangle

Names like Gerald Wallace? Misguided thinking no matter how you look at it.
