Watch: Knicks take ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Keith Schlosser, Lead Writer

Over the past week, the likes of Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Shane Larkin have been among those Knicks to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which challenges participants to dump a bucket of ice water on their heads, and/or donate money to ALS research.

This HoopsHype article about trading Stat to Philly at the trade deadline and having to include a pick or rookie contract player is dumb, to say the least. It's basically saying that we would do them a favor by helping them reach salary cap expectations, but would have to sweeten the pot.... The journalist must be borderline brain dead (no offense)... At that point, we should just let the contract expire. Rumor has it that the Philly GM always asks for outrageous price for his players, and I definitely don't want to take back a scrub that cuts into our future salary cap space... The good news is, there's a new sheriff in town. He will tell that nerd where to shove it!

the way I see it we lost 10-15 games due to inept coaching last season...we have so far assembled a better team and a better coaching staff so far ... IMO the East had troubles last season and even bigger troubles this upcoming season .. teams expected to rule the roost isn't looking good to me .. but what do I know .. so I'll stick to my gunz and say the Knicks will be a top two team in the East this upcoming season

The marc gasol trade rumors are starting to swirl... I do hope we are trying to get him a year early

Sam Smith @SamSmithHoops

Rose on his rest Tuesday: I feel great actually. My body is good. I’m not aching. So that’s a good sign. Just trying to take it day by day.

So there's a rumor on hoopshype saying the Knicks would be willing to trade Amare to the Sixers at the deadline?? At that point in season my question is 4 who 4 what? I don't want mediocre contracts back over playing this season out and getting the cap space.

I hope Rose is able to extend his career....this is his livelihood. But like I said before, expecting this guy to stay healthy is like expecting Stat to do the same. He will never be the same again. Good thing he had adidas line up pre injury. And this is example number 1000 on why players should get the most out of every contract they are offered. You simply never know.

Knicks will have a better record than Chicago this year...I see Knicks as one of the top two in the East this year...top 7 NBA...coaching makes the difference

Season hasn't even started and Rose is already coming up lame..

Not saying he's done but the fat lady is warming up her vocals..

@firedolan

Philly is under no pressure to reach the minimum salary floor. If they don't get there, the NBA just requires them to pay the difference to the players on the roster. There is no penalty. The Knicks would actually be the ones to benefit by trading STAT to Philly as it would put us under the luxury tax and help us avoid the repeater luxury tax. So look for the Knicks to be more motivated than Philly to move STAT.

Honestly, it read like a 76ers beat writer's wishful thinking.

I like your positive thinking, but we've picked up Calderon, Sammy, Jason Smith, Bo Outlaw, Quincy Acy, Larkin and Early... You seriously think those acquisitions take us from cellar dwellers to 2nd place in the East? I beg to differ

@brookdon  So did Anthony Randolph - remember him?  I was SO excited when we traded for him, I thought he would become a star.  I watched the mix tape of his incredible dunks like 100 times.  Boy was I wrong.

@brookdon What players from the Melo, Billups, Amar'e Knicks are still in the league? Lol Landry Fields but, I mean, we all know why he was given his contract. Lol

VerySilentJay

@brookdon  It's unreal how he crumbled after he was given the chance to run the offense and broke down under pressure.

That, next to Woody's surreal implosion as an NBA coach are the 2 biggest professional setbacks I've seen in a long, long, time.

@Oscar. We don't have much to offer, unfortunately

firedolan

@Pete. That article is retarded! Saying we would have to include a draft pick or rookie contract to make it wirth their while, meanwhile, we would be doing them a favor by helping them reach the salary point needed... They would need to give us something decent, and not players that eat up future salary cap space, if not, just finish out the season with Stat, IMO... Sounds like ESPN journalist wrote it

brookdon

I couldn't see the Knicks do it unless they are getting something out of it. By then we'd only owe stat $7 million. Philly needs that deal more than we do.

@OLDKNICK3. Maybe slightly better. They got Gasol and got rid of Boozer

@OLDKNICK3. They should have kept DJ Augustine

@ChamanTKB Way too early to call anything in the East aside from Cleveland -which will look suspect defensively, imo-.

- Chicago is overrated severely -only because of Rose-. Without him  they're a borderline playoff team.

- Spolestra will finally be tested as a coach and we'll see whether Bosh can lead the offense and if Wade can bounce back strong. A lot of question marks in Miami

- BK is older and fatter. They lost key players and are placing their chips on unproven players. At least they'll defend with grit

- Washington will have to defend a solid campaign, though their brand of ball will suffer with Pierce, even though they'll get some needed clutch gene in DC.

- Toronto: a sh!tload to prove. Can Lowry sustain the play he showed last season? Will DeRozan keep improving? What will be of Valanciunas? Can Louis Willams be a factor again after missing out on so much time?

- Indy's way out of control. Without PG they're done. Putting their scoring chips in West and Hibbert...yes, that will not give them the expected resutls. No Stephenson, no playmaking and perimeter D. They will suffer tremendously. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they're in lottery territory all season long.

- Charlotte had a very nice season and now will have to back it up. Young team, with many developing players and solid FA acquisitions. They'll be there no doubt.

- Atlanta: fully healthy they should be able to maintain .500 throughout the season. Good coaching, solid players. No true difference makers, but they'll have a solid record.

@Knicks_Fanatic. System keeps changing my screen name... Thanks for the info. I still don't think it's worth giving away an asset for

brookdon
brookdon

I can't see Philly being thrilled giving away money to players on an awful team though.

I think there are better cheaper players that they can get than Amare that fulfill the same purpose.

In regards to our repeater tax, since when has Dolan been afraid of paying taxes?

greekfreak
greekfreak

@chitwood. That's yet to be seen. I like the new staff but I think 2nd place is a stretch... I hope you are right, but Cleveland, Chicago (with Rose), Miami, Charlotte and Washington are pretty good also

I was the same way about AR. The kid just has a ridiculously low BBall IQ.

I can't think of one. That roster was sad lol.

Actually, I would say his career imploded after Garnett's illegal screen that crushes his shoulder when we played the C's in the playoff.

@that3agoodpoint Lol that's so funny. I thought the same thing. Does he truly feel great or is he scheduled for surgery in the morn?

brookdon

I think you hit the nail on the head. Organizations are rarely loyal like players are expected to be...for all Nash and Amare did for Phoenix, they let both go to save money. If Dirk were to get hurt tomorrow, Cuban would be the first to ask for an amnesty in the next CBA

I think it was more that Dolans advisers were telling him not too pay too high of a salary. I believe he would pay it for the right player/players

SheSaidSpikeWho

@Knicks_Fanatic Who does he play for? The last I heard, he played for the T-Wolves but was always injured.

VerySilentJay
VerySilentJay

@TKBK1ng @VerySilentJay @SheSaidSpikeWho People should know by now that Melo's decision to stay goes beyond basketball.

Chicago's situation may be the better one, but Melo's  has proven over and over again that he wants to be here.

Fans should appreciate having a superstar that actually wants to be here...
