Randy Foye to Utah

via ESPN.com:

“Shooting guard Randy Foye has signed a one-year deal with the Utah Jazz, a source close to Foye said Monday night.

Foye, a career 36 percent shooter from three-point range, was the last of the quality shooting guards left on the free-agent market. He stepped into a starting role with the Los Angeles Clippers last season after Chauncey Billups tore his Achilles tendon and averaged 12.8 points as a starter, including 40 percent from three-point range.

The Jazz were 27th in the league last season in three-point shooting percentage (32.3).”

Foye was a guy mentioned on this site on numerous occasions. He would have been a nice fit here with the SG spot still open. The bottom line is that at his age, chasing rings on a minimum level contract should not be his primary focus. I do not have the exact dollar total he signed for with Utah, but i would have to imagine it was more than what the Knicks could have offered.

The Knicks made their splash this off-season, using all of their assets on Felton, Kidd, Camby and Kurt Thomas. The two remaining spots (SG and backup PF) have to (and will) be filled with minimum level salaried players. Those players may not be signed until August when the money really starts to dry up and players are left looking for a landing spot.

Good for Foye, but that is just another option off the board for the Knicks.
